After transferring a number from a previous carrier to a new carrier, I can no longer receive iMessages from my telephone number. People can only iMessage me if they know my Apple ID. I've tried restoring the phone, but I'm always faced with 'error' in the iMessage settings window.

So this question is actually about my friends iPhone 4... She and I text on a daily basis and we use iMessages. As of two days ago, every time I sent her an iMessage, it would fail and I would have to send it as a text message. Well we finally figured out it was because her iMessages were turned off (probably by her 2 year old daughter.) So she turned them back on and she sent me an imessage. But when she sent the imessage and I received it, I received the message from her apple id, not her phone number which is what I normally receive her messages from. Her and I can't figure out how to change it back to her phone number..

This issue started with the last iOS update and has affected not only my phone, but my wife's and father in law's as well (we all have the exact same model) When I attempt to send a text message to my wife, my phone suddenly won't send imessages anymore. Only text. I have tried rebooting my phone, and my wife's phone. We have even tried wiping our phones and restoring them from backups. The problem still persists, wether we are at home connected to wifi or out of the house on 3G. The only way I have managed to send my wife an imessage was by creating a new contact with ONLY her e-mail address. That only worked once. since then, its trying to send everything as SMS again.
This is unacceptable as we live in an area with very poor celular coverage and rely heavily on wifi connections, therefore we won't receive an SMS until our phones get access to the celular network. All other apps and phone functions are working correctly across all 3 phones mentioned. On both my phone, and my wife's, I have double checked to ensure that iMessage is still turned on. I suspect that this is a global software issue seeing as it only started once we updated our phones to the latest iOS. My question is this:
Prior to the update, we were all able to send iMessages to eachother, regardless of where we were. The only time we'd have an issue is if someone's phone was turned off or not connected to either the celular 3G network or a wifi with internet access (which is natural).

recently, I used my uncles iphone 4 to imessage my friends. my uncle recently decided to give it to me and get himself the new iphone 4s. Since its from out of country, we went to unlock the iphone 4 and got rid of the old sim card and he got a new sim card with the old phone number (same number for iphone 4). my problem is that im scared he'll be able to receive my old and new imessages. I had deleted them on his old iphone and reset the whole thing twice.the problem is that on the old iphone, I did input my own apple ID to send messages, but I realized later on that it was using the PHONE NUMBER as the CALLER ID. Sure the messages still synced into my iPod 4g and back and forth.
I heard that sometimes, two iphones that had the same sim card or phone number tend to send to each other messages as if it was one phone and that concerns me. Is it possible that when he activates his new iPhone, the old imessages would show up on his phone as syncing? I really don't want him to get his hands on my old messages. Only had my Blackberry Curve 8520 for 1 week. I have changed the phone number from the one supplied to my previous number to avoid having to notify all my cotacts of a new number. When I go into the calls screen (the one brought up when you press the green phone button) On the "My Number" line it is still showing the supplied number not the one I have changed to. I went into the Virgin Media Store today but I was informed that it cannot be altered.

I just switched from Verizon over to Sprint to save some money and had my old number ported over. Everything is working fine, but the number still shows up as the temporary one sent to me in the phone menu.

I did a network reset which didnt work. Then i went into settings and toggled the imessage button. After doing that it now allows me to send imessages as an sms but says i can only be reached for messgaes at my email address and won't allow me to choose my phone number to get messgae. So now I can send imessages but they apepar to come from email account not my phone number.

To continue the above header, that's basically what's happening. I got the phone last Thursday, started futzing around with it on Friday, and set up the stock Sense 5 TV App. I put in my postal code (Canadian), picked my provider (Bell East) and set up my TV and surround receiver. Everything works manually by physically punching in the three digit number to change channels but the "auto channel selector" seems to zip along a little to fast for my receiver to recognize any more than a number or two.
For example channel 600 is HGTV and all I see is a "0" pop up after a second or two. What I'm looking for is an easy to use "wife friendly" app that has a Canadian guide that is push-button friendly and that I can input a delay into to actually be able to use the IR blaster as a remote...
So far I've tried the native TV App and Dijit. I don't mind paying for apps but my two minimum requirements are a guide feature and capability of delay..
I just did the iOS 5.1 update on my iphone 3gs yesterday. Now, my iMessages (both sent and received messages) between me and anybody are being sent to my boyfriends iphone 4s even though he isn't included in the text. We both use the same itunes account, but the password for itunes is different than the password for my email that the account is tied to. I've never had this problem since iMessaging came out last fall....For the time being I've just shut off my iMessages.

I have an iphone 5, my fiance has an iphone 4. Our imessages to each other aren't working. I can get them and send them to other people on my contact list and so can he. I am up to date with software and he says he is too but we can't communicate via imessage. This has been happening for several days now. I have tried signing out and back in, turning the phone off and back on, and have tried other troubleshooting issues I have seen online but nothing is working. We can call each other and Facetime but can't imessage ....

I had to reset my phone this weekend and lost all of my text messages due to not backing up to icloud for an extended period of time. I'm attempting to get my contacts back in order and have been using my AT&T detailed bill to get some old numbers but the phone numbers associated with text messages sent via imessage are not showing up. Is there any way to retreive those numbers?

I'm a brand new owner of a 9650 and I'm stumped on trying to change a setting. Currently my phone rings only once before it goes to voice mail. I have looked all over the device to find how to increase the number and can't find it anywhere. I have checked sound profiles and see no option to do so. The manual for the 9650 says it's an issue with my provider. My carrier, Verizon, has been no help. This was not an issue with my old phone and I assumed it would be the same during the transisition to the new one. No go.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI read where there is pretty much no way to reassign different names to the number in the address book of the curve but can this be done on our 9700? for instance, my friend has way too many phone numbers for his job and they are all mobile numbers. Is there any way for me to label one like nextel or somehting and one personal cell and one work cell? Or have one contact for mr and mrs such and such with both cell numbers in the contact but label one his and the other hers? Am I making any sense here?

I sync contacts with a corporate Exchange / Outlook account. I can manage contacts on the phone or PC. Any contact who has say a business, home or mobile number and a fax number specified, if I go to the dialer, start typing their name, it does show the contact and a number (no indication of type such as fax or cell) so I tap that choice. Sadly, no, I can't just tell from looking at the number if it is fax or not. The phone dials the fax # which of course is incredibly annoying to my ear and that this dumb phone doesn't know not to try a fax number as the first choice for any contact who has a fax number.
I know I can set the default number per contact but I have hundreds of contacts and to go through each one to see if they have a fax and change it would really suck. Is there seriously no way to tell the phone not to use fax as first choice by default?
Does the iOS 4.0 finally give us the ability to change tracks with a bluetooth headset or has Apple still not integrated that feature?
