I'm a user from Portugal and I received the notification about the 2.1 upgrade availability today on PC Companion when I connected the phone to my Windows 7 PC.After making a backup using the latest backup version I went ahead with the upgrade.But the PC Companion, after the preparation phase, simply says that it's not possible to install or initialize the upgrade components (in Portuguese).

Hestory : last night i tried to upgrade my phone using Sony Update service. it ran upgrade and everything was new. all previously installed softwares are gone.
Symptoms: it shows android 2.3.4 version on phone but in PC suit while, upgrade using pc suite it says vrsion 4 .a .XXX , and upgrading to 4.b.XXX ... then it proceeds and fails with error "Unable to install or start phone software update conponents" .

I followed every instruction but I had to abort the process when PC Companion prompted me to discontinue due to low battery conditions. I charged my battery. I connected phone and continued process. View 3 Replies View RelatedEver since I downloaded something like "Blackberry OS version 5" from the web, and updated my device using the desktop manager, I have been unable to download new apps.Somehow I managed to get BBM back on -- the phone would have been useless otherwise -- but no more apps will get downloaded.Everything seems to work, whether I download via the web, or use desktop manager to install the apps, there are no errors and it says it worked -- but there is no icon for the app in any of the folders.For example, BB App world: The desktop manager says it is installed, but it's not accessible because there is no icon anywhere.My carrier say they can't help me any further as it's a device issue.I have got "show all" on, so the icons are definitely not hidden.I have tried a battery pull dozens of times.I have tried a backup using desktop manager, then factory reset the device, then restored -- several times.I have tried uninstalling the apps through desktop manager and installing them again.I don't understand what settings are supposed to be changed after I do a factory reset and restore from backup.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is my second BB 9000, and yet again, it's nuked. No accidents, good battery...just one morning it didn't want to switch on. The red light flashed for about 10 seconds, then switched off for 10 seconds. I replaced the battery with a new one...same result.Endless hours of research later:I did a battery pull several times. I then used App Loader to wipe the BB clean and install my carrier's OS (followed instructions on how to recover a nuked BB). Everything went fine until "Wait for device initialization", where it gets stuck and says "Application loader was unable to locate your device...click retry" .At this point, when the red light goes off, the screen comes on and displays the words "BlackBerry" with a progress bar underneath it...then after a couple of seconds, the screen goes off and the red light is back on again.
This loop continues indefinitely.I tried clicking "retry" countless times. I tried updating through BB Desktop Manager (latest version), it got stuck at the same point. I tried JL_Cmder...it won't locate the device on time before the screen goes off. I tried BBSAK, it won't locate the device period. I've even tried pulling and replacing the battery at different points in said loop.This is my second BB 9000 getting nuked. For no apparent reason
I already have blackberry desktop from my playbook. When I pug in my curve it opens and says its initiaizing but nothing happens. You can't exit or anything.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAbout a week or two ago my camera stopped working--I'm not sure if it coincided with a recent software update, or my switching the storage option to the extrernal SD card or something else, but now when I click on the icon or press the camera button, the camera app launches, but stays black (no picture from the lens) and all the options stay greyed out. Sometimes it says the camera isn't responding and asks if I want to wait--sometimes it just goes straight to "Camera is unable to initialize" and then go back to the home screen.At one point at the start of these issues I had it set to the "chat camera" (the one facing the user)--however, as soon as I switched to the forward-facing camera it went blank. A couple times since then I've gotten an image on the screen like it started to receive a signal, but then it locked up again as normal.

As if there is something blocking the lens. The camera overlays are present. The shutter button and zoom in and out keys.
