I cannot update my Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini SI No. 1248-9517. When I connect it to my pc Sony PC Companion it starts but it shows an error "Unable to install or start phone software update components."

Hestory : last night i tried to upgrade my phone using Sony Update service. it ran upgrade and everything was new. all previously installed softwares are gone.
Symptoms: it shows android 2.3.4 version on phone but in PC suit while, upgrade using pc suite it says vrsion 4 .a .XXX , and upgrading to 4.b.XXX ... then it proceeds and fails with error "Unable to install or start phone software update conponents" .

I followed every instruction but I had to abort the process when PC Companion prompted me to discontinue due to low battery conditions. I charged my battery. I connected phone and continued process. In step two - prepare - I get the error message: Installation Error: unable to install or start phone software update components. I tried several times but I still get the same error. When I press the on button the phone vibrates, the LED on the top left flashes faintly green twice, and then nothing.I can connect to PC companion, and it recognises the phone. After recently upgrading from the X10 Mini Pro, i am well aware on how to update the software using PC Companion.However, this update is proving difficult. Once i follow the steps provided and get to the 'Phone Software Update' window, with the four steps (Start, Prepare, Update, Finish) I'm stranded at step 2. The whole 'unplug the USB from the phone and computer' steps are proving useless, nothing is happening. I've tried seven times with intervals, and many reboots of my phone, none of which have proved successful. Anyone able to tell me what i may be doing wrong or is there a current problem installing the software for everyone?

When I start the PC Companion software, it finds the connected Phone. Then I click on update. In the following window I click "Accept" and then the software should prepare the PC for the update. But after one second it stops and returns to Start without any comment. When I start Sony Mobile Update Service then it checks for new updates. As soon as the check is over, the program terminates without any comment. Is there a third way to upgrade?

View 3 Replies View RelatedFive days back purchased a Xperia X10 and upgraded the memory to 16GB. It was working fine since yesterday morning, when I updated the phone through SE PC Companion software.
First SEPCC presented a message for update then it told to disconnect the phone from USB, switch it off, remove battery for at least 5 sec., put battery again, connect it USB with pressing back button. After that it starts downloading the update and then tried to install the update. But it failed 2 times.
Right now I am not able to start the mobile even by removing the memory. On the screen it displays SONY ERICSSON text and a '!' mark inside a triangle.
I have free space of 49MB in internal memory but no matter how many time I've tried to install the 25MB apps, it asked me to free up some space and try again!

Connected the usb port while holding the back button and selected connect the phone but nothing happened. I've tried this about 6 times now and nothing.Should the phone be asking me what i want to do each time? My friend got the same update via his HTC shortly after, he was able to update directly from his phone without any problem. I was informed I had to connect to a PC to update mine, frustrating but I do understand the definate benefit. But there are only benefits if the software related is robust and well tested, which it isn't.I connected my phone, updated PC companion, connected the phone via pc companion. Attempted to use the support zone which had just been updated also. I got the error message saying " Pc Companion need to connect to online server". I have done suggest it's only a temporary problem but I've tried on over 10 different occasions on two different PC's.I then tried using the SUS as I needed to use that to update to ICS in the first place, but it wants to dowload a 127mb file, way to big for the patch which is meant to be 0.1mb.
