So this might be a little long winded, but it's just what I've been through so I cant' really condense it down anymore. So a few days ago now (almost a week) I received an SMS from Nokia telling me to update my phone firmware. I then hooked my phone up to my PC, and checked for software updates. I updated OVI Suite to the latest version, rebooted and then checked again. It found the update for my phone and asked if I wished to apply it. Naturally I said yes, it then told me I should backup my phone first, and then asked if I would like to do that now, which I said yes to, and chose to backup everything. It then downloaded the update, applied it, and then asked me to restore my phone, All of which appeared to work fine.A quick look through my phone to check everything and it all appeared normal, My custom theme was there, my facebook app was there, my contacts/photos/music were there. Oh but wait, I was missing my Sudoku game. A little odd, yes, but no worries I got that from the OVI store, I'll just be able to re-download it, because that's why you make purchases from app stores instead of publishers directly. No, apparently not. This game wasn't listed in my "My Stuff" tab in the OVI application. That's ok, I'll just download it from the SMS I was sent originally.
No. Not that either. The SMS link is no longer valid. So at a loss I decide to turn to technical support, I mean after all I have a technical issue I need support with.I e-mail technical support Basically telling them above. Then then ask for a transaction ID, which I have no record of (not sure why not?). I then provide even more information, ask them to escalate, ect. End result is, I don't get my game back. They have no record of me downloading this in the past, and for some reason it isn't available to download anymore.Frustrated, I e-mail the developer/publisher, explaining my situation. They respond promptly (within the hour), providing my with a link and SMS to download the application again, and apologise for Nokia's behaviour. Nice. I've now got my game back things are good again in my world. So with that little story in mind, I raise a few questions. Why was this application not backed up/restored with my phone backup? This seems like a pretty serious bug, especially considering that technical support won't provide download links for games or applications unless you can provide them with information provided by Nokia in the first place ( :s very round about).
My situation is pretty small in the whole scheme of things I guess. But if it can happen to me I guess it can happen to others. So why Nokia can things like this happen? What would have happened if this wasn't a small game, but rather a largish application, with data, that cost lots of money? Sure I could have gone directly to the publisher then as well, but if the purchase was made through the OVI store, what record would they have of me? This centralised store is supposed to handle all of these problems (ie, Steam or Apple App Store). Also how can bugs like this get through the alpha/beta testing of the OVI Suite backup utility? This must surely be considered a critical part of the application.Judging from my response from Nokia thus far, I'm not sure if I'm even expecting a response to this. I guess it should server as a warning to others if they think they can trust this software or even the technical support behind it to back them up in case of issues. My advise? Get a different brand phone.
I've tried to update my E63 software using Nokia Suite v3.3.86 but in vain.
The steps I've followed in the 3rd step fo update process (i.e. Install) are as follows with screenshots attached:
1. It checks for valid installation file (see attached "Installation file validation.png"). Since the update has been downloaded by it previously, it proceeds to next step.
2. It starts preparing to install (see attached "Preparing to install.png").
3. It show USB connection active screen with a windows notification saying "Nokia E63 disconnected via USB" is seen on "Install screen". (see attached "Install Screen.png" for "Install Screen").
4. Next with the same USB connection active screen, a windows notification saying "Nokia E63 connected via USB" is seen on "Install screen".
5. The windows notification disappears and the screen is still at the "Install Screen" (see attached "Install Screen.png").
6. Nothing happens even after waiting for a long time. Clicking "Next" repeats the above mentioned process from step 2.
Dialing "*#0000#" gives the following info:
"500.21.009 02-06-2010 RM-437 (c) Nokia E63-1 (308.06)"
I've backed up my phone on memory card and then updated firmware of E-71 Now the backup is not been backedup properly and can not retrieve SMS which were backed up.
I used the Ovi suite to install the free maps on my E72 which work great but the software itself is very poorly written, too many bugs and problems so i would like to uninstall it and use the PC suite instead. can I now update my phone using the PC suite with it's updater software or do I have to now rely on the Ovi suite.
The reason I ask instead of having two pieces of software is i want to a Vista/XP (two machines) clean install followed by a Ghost DVD so the smaller image the better (plus i dont like to have **bleep** installed on my machine:-)
I have lost some pre-installed Nokia Apps (Photo & Video Editor,Nokia Check in,Traveler,Ovi Music etc) after hard reset .I have tried to reinstall firmware via Nokia Suite, but still cant find these apps.Plz Provide me these apps.
During the backup process there is an option to backup "Device settings and applications".Well, call me stupid, but I assumed that this option would backup my phone's settings and applications! After being advised by Nokia Support to reset my phone (due to another problem), I did it in the knowledge that my settings had been backed up.However when attempting the restore, there was no option to restore the settings, just options to restore messages, docs, images etc.So I've now had to spend a long time putting all my settings back in.To say the least, I'm not very impressed!I was wondering if there is any proper software around that will backup EVERYTHING.
I tried to do backup my E71 using the PC suite (ver 7.1), it doing the backup for some time after when it reach the phone model specific backup, it hang and displayed completed but when checking the data the backup is not there. Worst happened to me when I did my phone new software installation and did my usual backup, but without checking the data before proceeding doing the new firmware update, now I am not able to restore my previous installation. I am stuck with hours of installing some of the application but some are gone because I dont have the serial nbr.
Cannot activate the Backup in ovi suite. Message shown "Another operation ongoing". Sometime got this problem when using PC suite as well.Conflict with K-lite codec pack video codecs. Multiple instances of the a video codec will be opened in the system tray area. It sometimes go up to about 50++ instances. nokiamserver.exe processor do not close when ovi suite is exited. I need to manually close it from the task manager.
Lately my Nokia PC Suite version 7.1.40.6 fail to backup any of my E71 phone contents.Message received after using the Backup feature is "The phone did not contain any content to be backed up. The backup file is not saved."However my phone is full of content and the message is not true.I had similar problem a few days back with and older version of PC Suite but strangely no such problems with the same version of the old PC Suite last year.I hope you can help me on thios subject as I cannot over emphasised the importance of backing up the phone contents. For your information, I have used the latest version of PC Suite Cleaner before installing the latest PC Suite.
Okay, so I wanted to do a firmware update on my Nokia phone via cable. First problem was that NSU does not support Windows 7 x64 properly in the the sense that it doesnt effin work at all! So, I launch VMWare and I install Windows XP x32 on a virtual machine, but that didnt work too well either. I eventually uninstalled PC suite and Connectivity Driver from my Win7 hoping to make the phone connect to my WinXP virtual machine. It works. I update my phone's firmware. I want to do a recovery of my effin contacts. And the backup file is gone. What kind of software does that? Oh, you want to uninstall PC Suite? Yeah? Well, you will lose all data for that.
When I click on "Backup" in PC-Suite it says: "No phones are connected. Connect now."However, all other applications in PC-Suite recognize my connected phone successfully. Can anyone please advise why Backup doesn't recognize it?
I just wanted to back up my address book contacts from my Nokia 6300, using Nokia PC Suite. Unfortunately, the backup process stopped before completing, backing up only 13 contacts. Then, it synchronized these 13 contacts back to my cellphone, deleting all other 400 contacts on the phone.
Do you have any idea on how i can recover those lost contacts? I have already checked the Nokia PC Suite backup file using Noki software, however it also only shows 13 contacts. Also checked the PCCSContact file in the application data folder with SQLite3 Manager. However, it doesnt show any more contacts either. Any chance I can access the contacts on the mobile phone storage card?

I just updated my phone using Nokia Ovi Suite and restored from a backup, now when I go to the Address Book, after 3 seconds it gives me "No settings found. Contact your service provider." error. I only use this phone for calling, no email/im services/texting, just calls so what is it trying to accomplish?
I have a Nokia n97, and it is synced to Ovi Suite on my PC (latest version) I need to reinstall my OS (Windows 7), but I want to make sure everything is backed up first. Where does the Ovi Suite software store the Messages and Contacts and Photos/Videos on the Local Machine
I had a E72 since 3 months.I never made any update. My divice run with the 021.024.Now the more recent firware level is 031.023.Can I update the from 021.024 to 031.023 without install the 022.007 firmware ?Can I make a backup of the actual firmware and restore it, if the new firmware don't run fine for me ?
I'm base in Sydney Australia and have just received a msg from Nokia that I can update my firmware for my N900.(firmware version 10.2010.19.)The problem is that I receive a message that I could not update because of: poor-quality ,slow or intermittent internet connection. This could also be because of problems with our servers. Is it that NSU does not support N900 and if so why would Nokia sell a phone and not provide software to update the phone with.
When I click on install option from OVI Suite to update to the latest version, It keeps saying there's no network connection even though my net connection works fine. i tried installing the new version of Ovi Suite by downloading from Nokia Site, even that hangs after a while of installtion progress. Is there a easy way to upgrade or update new Ovi Suite ? Also if I cancel any installation mid way, I am not able to start it again unless I clear all installation files after restarting.this is frustrating to see a simple software upgrade is so cubersome.
I wanted to intsall Mail For Exchange, and the Nokia E72 NAM doesnt seem to have it when I bought it (unless you can direct me to it). I decided to follow the instructions to install it, but it requires me to update the ovi store. I dont know if this will update the firmware as well, but i heard that the newest firmware (v031.032 i believe) is very buggy, so i want to avoid this until another firmware comes out.Can someone help? if its already on the phone, i just need to know where it is. If its not on the phone, will updating the ovistore affect anything in terms of new firmware or other sorts? The reason i want to install this is to utilize the google calendar so i dont have to keep plugging the e72 into the computer (and possibly damaging the plastic usb cover).

I work with a Nokia C5-00 operator locked (Movistar Spain) one month ago. When I connect it thru Ovi Suite (in a Windows 7 box), a firmware update was available, and yesterday I tried to do the upgrade.
Ovi Suite detected my phone, and a few moments later, backup its contents, and started to download the new firmware. Troubles came when Ovi Suite began to do the update, as it failed with a "Network Connect Error" when started to do the process.
Screen of my phone went completely white, and after disconnecting the USB cable, the phone simply died, except when I press the red button (it makes a vibration, but screen doesn't turn on). If I reconnect the phone to the computer, Windows try to install a "Nokia USB ROM" device, but unsuccessfully.
Yesterday I wanted to update my Nokia E63, I saw there was 2 ways of Updating, 1. Over The Air, but there was no clear definition on how to do that, So I want to the other option, Nokia Ovi PC Suite. The download kept failing but it kept resuming when I tried to download the update again. After the download finished Usually you do not need the internet to install something that you already downloaded (Should Always Be Like That!!) So I thought that and while the update was installing Nokia Ovi PC Suite said something about Cannot Connect To Service, Although My Internet was PERFECT! and I tried to turn on my E63 and it would just vibrate and then turn off. I tried reviving it by leaving the battery out for 5 mins ( I also left it out for 6 hours) And when you turn it on Hold the Green Button Call And the 3 and the *. But none of that works, I wanted to send my phone to Nokia Care through Post But you need the IMEI but How can I do that?
