Nokia :: N97 - Phone Book Capacity / Contact Memory Full
Jun 30, 2010How much Contacts can I save in my Nokia N97 32GB? I have just now synchronized the phone with my Outlook contact folder (3800 contacts). Memory details of adressbook show 3800 contacts and 2058 KB used space. But if try to search for a contact I get a message: contacts memory is full, close programs and try again. What can I do to solve this issue?

May 7, 2012My problem is displaying names in Contacts. Everything is ok in History of calls, it shows the correct names also when im calling or texting, but when I go to Contacts everyone is called (bez nazwy) which means in PL (no name). It happened one day that I noticed all contacts changed to the no name ones, so I tried to format card and phone memory, restore defult settings. After it I cant install Ogi Store on my phone :/ but the error with Contacts came back. Numbers saved on SIM works properly only those on the card memory seems to have no name.

Feb 3, 2012I came to Symbian S60 v.5 and Symbian Anna from Sony Ericsson (UIQ3), and I have found some shortcomings on the Nokia OS. F.i. if I need to open a contact from the call log or sms - I can't see a way to do that with Nokia OS. With UIQ3 this was very easy. In stead I will have to open the contact list and find the contact there. There are still some of us who use the device as a phone, and not an mp3-player or internet browser.

Aug 18, 2011Every now and then my Nokia N8 contact list freezes when I try to select a contact fom the list, when starting a call or by accessing the contact list directly. A reboot, factory reset nor firmware reinstalling doesn't solve the problem, it only works temporarily. When the list freezes I am able to swipe through it up and down, though selecting contacts is not possible. I do see a cursor blinking in the lower half of the screen, at the position where the search window normally is. The search window itself is vanished.

At times, I have seen that when I receive a call from the person who is already added in my contact list, the phone is just displaying the number and not the name of the person. When I check the Log, it also displays the number and not the name of the person.
I have imported my contact list from my previous handset (Nokia N70) where it worked absolutely fine. It is quite inconvenient to identify the caller without the name and decide whether to accept or reject during work hours and have at times missed some important calls due to that.

Feb 23, 2012My old 6820 was about 98% accurate when using the voice tags (that I had recorded to make calls).The N8 has achieved exactly 0% so far. So I've set myself the task of finding out if this can be improved.Do I have to accept the artificial voice tags generated from the contact names? For example, my wife is "Looby Lou", the artificial voice is Stephen Hawking saying "Lobby Loo". So, I tried both "Looby Lou" and "Lobby Loo". I got one "No match found" and one "Ardalanish". This is about the only voice tag that I consider important; it's the call that I'll make if I have a heart attack, or a stroke. I don't want to be put through to a retired farmer in the Hebrides...

Jul 12, 2010For some reason my 5800 phone has recently stopped retrieving emails from my IMAP inbox. No changes on the servet but I have recently installed the latest firmware 50.2.005 and all applications are up to date.
The problem is I go to inbox click on Connect and it says updating mailbox, sometimes it will download the new messages and sometimes I have to do it several times. Also the connection to the mailbox is immediately droppped. There is no "exiting will disconnect from mailbox" prompt when I exit so that shows that it is not connected. Then when I try to open a new or even an old message it connects and says updating mailbox and then sometimes the email application closes, sometimes it does not do anything and goes back to message list, sometimes it will show the message with no body and sometimes it shows an error saying could not display message. After trying several times sometimes I get to see the message content. Each time I try to open the email it attempts to connect to internet as it asks me which connection to use so it is evident the phone cannot maintain the connection open.
I have noted that after some firmware upgrade now I only have the option to download headers. Before I believe there was an option to download part of the body aswell.
when trying to delete a message from phone & server it tries to do it but finally just shows a red slash on the message icon. The message is not deleted from server either.
I tried selecting messages from memory card and phone memory and tried deleting the email account and setup from scratch but it is the same everytime.
I am using the default email client. The new Nokia email program is useless because it does not support secure connections which i need to use.

Mar 26, 2010My new E72 devolped an interesting problem:When i open the phonebook and start typing to look up a contact, a lot of contacts do not show up in the resukts. The same happens when i start typing on the home screen, however in messaging the lookup works. Example: want to call "Anna B." I type search for "Anna" in my phonebook, "Anna K." shows up, but "Anna B." and some other contacts containing "Anna" don't.search also does not work for the last name (for completeness).Interestingly, the affected numbers also don't show up on my car kit when the phone can't find them.I can, however just scroll through the contacts ( on the phone, not on the car kit) and, bang!, the missing contacts are actually there. so just search and car kit sync are affected.The problem can sometimes be solved by resterting the phone, sometimes not. In OVI Suite all (~280) Contacts show up and can be found.I have yet to determine wether the affected contacts are always the same, but it seems that way. They are a mixture of old/new with/without picture/email etc. so nothing obvious in common.

Dec 23, 2011ive had the Nokia n8 for a year and ive hated every single day of that year...... the nokia n8 is THE most problametic phone ive ever had.... and will be my last ever nokia phone. no matter what i do i get the nokia startup failed contact retailer. yes ive restarted my phone at least 100 times ...... yes i literally restarted my phone 100 times no exagaration.... my phone will start up like usual ..... then after a while it will give me the nokia n8 startup failed contact retailer is there any way to get this fixed without having to reset the whole phone to factory settings??.... ive been able to bypass the startup failed contact retailer by quickly quickly clicking on the small button on the left that then gives me the menu with all my applications but realisticly i shouldn't have to go through all the work to get my phone up...

Now this new one has started and I don't know if it's a bug that I can fix or not, randomly it loses the contact name associations when I open up the text message inbox. It just comes up with the phone numbers, the contacts are still there and when I reset the phone it goes back to normal.
