I have a N900 and know the Ovi software does not work with it. I am trying to find a PC Messaging Application which I can use to type and send SMS from the PC, and which would help me back up my SMS from the N900 to the PC. Does anyone know of any such applications?
View 5 RepliesJust got my N900, trying to setup Nokia Messaging (which works on my E71). Installed the latest update OK. I'm connected through Wifi OK. Mail - Setting - Choose Region - Choose Nokia Messaging, Enter account details - all correct. But then the next screen shows the normal settings for a POP3 or IMAP Account, asking for port numbers etc.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI bought a N900 from UAE last week and I am using it in Surat, Gujarat, all works fine but I am not able to find nokia messaging to configure email accounts and also I am not able to connect any widgets or messenger( msn, gmail, yahoo) on the phone. Only I am able to browse internet on the maemo browser and firefox which I installed later. Please give me any tips or tricks how can I get it up and working. As even if I try to configure the default email account of hotmail or gmail, it is configured quickly but cannot send receive emails in the inbox. Just gets the error message " could connect to imap and or server proxy port number is wrong. Tried all I could from the help of service providers, but no luck as they are all totally unaware of any settings regarding this phone in India. Please people help me with this..

I have a Nokia Messaging account that I created during the first appear of Nokia Messaging service and now with Movistar Spain subscription. In my account I have 2 Google Mail Accounts (Normal and Apps), a MobileMe account and Yahoo IMAP (spanish address) account.
All the accounts work correctly except Yahoo account. What happen? That I have emails in the inbox of mail mobile 3 days old, the old emails from third day suddenly became unreaded, I open to read, and are marked as read, but after some time (30min, 1hour) or some time like this became unreaded suddenly. For example today some emails, in the case of today 15 emails from 13th of january became unread again again and again.
It's annoying because with this behaviour there's no way to know how really new emails you have and also for every time the email is marked as unread the mobile spend time and battery notifying me. There's someone else that has this problem? Any propose or solution?
I try to delete the Yahoo account in my Nokia Messaging account and create a new one with the address, but the problem come back again and again. A solution could be to classify all the email every day in folders keeping my Inbox of Yahoo account in server clean, but there's some day that I have no time to do this work.
I am a brand new X6 user, I am not event very familiar with Symbian S60 OS. I recently purchased the application known as ThreadedSMS because I like to see my text messages threaded as in conversation form. After I installed it, the original messaging application still pops up notifications in addition to ThreadedSMS. Also when I click on a contact and wish to send a text message, it uses the original messaging application instead of Threaded SMS.Is there a way to set the OS's default messaging application to be Threaded SMS so that I don't get double the notifications of incoming text messages, and so when I try to send a text message via contacts it doesnt pull up the original SMS application.Also, does anyone know a more finger friendly Contact Manager application (similar to iPhone )?

But now a days whenever I open application manager it immediately gives the message "Operation Failed". But the window remains open. Even download from OVI was also not allowed before and after this message started coming.

2- Also installed nokia map loader version 3.0
Now all is fine. Isn't it? So they said first start nokia map application till it load completely then close it. I did. Then connect ur phone on PC SUIT MODE and also I did that. Then all I get on nokia map loader app is "Waiting for the phone" thats it and phone already connected I tried in both modes pc suit and mass storage but still the same "Waiting for the phone" and I am waiting too.
Just got a nokia e72, its the first phone of this type that I have tried so I don't know if the following are supposed to happen or not.
1: Nokia messaging won't work it says I have to check the inbox manually (this isn't a massive problem a press of the message key and I am in the inbox folder - so 2 presses rather than one is no big deal). The problem is that the inbox in question keeps disconnecting (yes I do have signal) so doesn't tell me when I have new email.
2: Following on from 1 when I send an email it always asks me what type of connection I want to use yet I have set it to default 'WAP contract' so it shouldn't ask should it.
3: Web sites open very slowly, now I am not expecting laptop speeds here but my nokia 6300 opened pages quicker.
4: Is it normal that when you remove the sim card and then put it back in you have to do the whole phone set up thing, its getting very annoying as I use the sim in a couple of phones and you don't have to do this in any of the others.
5: It keeps stopping me from downloading things and when it does this asks me to contact the service administrator - **bleep**?!?!?. I am only downloading nokia apps.
The main reason I ask these questions is that I had a nokia e72 about a month ago and none of the above seemed to happen on it but I only had it for 2 days as the casing was cracked and I sent it back. This new one I only got last week.
1 - Not all n900 applications i find on the net are searchable or listed at all on the n900s built in application downloader. some files i download manually off the net are in gz and deb format. do i need to install the nokia pc software and transfer them to the phone in order to use them, as i cannot find any other way to do it? from using google there are an awful lot of users saying the nokia software does not work very well at the moment and to avoid using it until its fully adapted for the n900, as some features are supposedly unusable?
2 - is there an easy file unzip program for the n900, hopefully easily found within the n900s application downloader? i tried searching for 'zip' and 'unzip' but nothing crops up

Suddenly my subscription shows cancelled. On calling customer care, they asked my to renew contract with mobile operator. When there is no such case with Nokia Messaging.
How do I get it activated again....
God why didnt I simply go for the time tested Blackberry. If one has to pay, why not go for Blackberyy or iPhone.
I signed up with one of my PLUSNET accounts, and that worked just fine.
Tried to add another, giving the login of ACCOUNT+ID as well as e-mail address and password.
Nokia messaging keeps telling me "Unable to connect with the information provided"
It works fine if I use another account not from PLUSNET
So, tried deleting the first account and re-adding it (since Nokia Messaging had accepted if first time).
Result - Nokia messaging won't add even the account that did work to begin with, and keeps replying "Unable to connect with the information provided"
I used the map downloader from Nokia to download maps to N900. Even after downloading complete germany maps, N900 still downloads more data . Later on I just copied the cities folder from my E71 to N900. Even after that there were no maps preinstalled. I am using PR1.1. Any hints

I don't want another pair of them, I'm looking for an alternative set of in-ear earphones with a mic. Can anyone suggest something that has been tested with an N900? I bought a pair of Klipsch S2m earphones which had been suggested, but they don't work, they make a strange and loud clicking noise, so it seems the N900 is sensitive about which earphones/headsets work.Ideally I'm after earphones that have a cable, so I can use them on an aeroplane. Don't mind if they are Bluetooth too, as long as wired use is possible. I don't mind if special buttons don't work, as long as the audio and mic work correctly.Can anyone suggest anything that has been proven to work in practice?

I have the same problem if there is a SIM in the phone but I choose not to enter then pin when starting the phone. I have set up a WLAN that works fine with the SIM enabled so it seems as the settings are fine. Is there something special I have to do to enable the WLAN when there is no SIM in the phone?

ever since bbc moved to flash 10 a couple of weeks ago, iplayer and bbc news videos no longer work on the n900. so does nokia have any plans to fix this by providing flash 10 to n900 usersis there a workaround that can be used in the mean time?lack of a functioning iplayer is a huge deal in uk as that is probably the most viewed flash site in uk (equivalent to claiming that the phone supports flash but doesn't play Internet). so i hope someone from nokia would take it seriously and break their silence on the availability of flash 10 on the platform.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI decided to go with PC Suite for Sync. I think it's a great program (I have never owned a Nokia.) PC Suite does say it is not fully compatible yet with N900. For sync though I have had no trouble. I noticed the backup feature didn't work - it thinks my phone is not connected. But the N900 does have a"Backup feature" on it. So I am guessing I can just backup the N900 using the N900 and then plug it into the computer and read it as a mass storage device - and copy the backup information onto the computer. That should work for backup/restore until they give an update to the program. Is that what others are doing here?
As for music... I don't know what t do. There is Media Sync for Blackberry which will transfer iTunes (not purchased iTunes unless you unlocked yours (which I did) it will transfer your iTunes play lists onto your Blackberry.
Is there something that will get music in the iTunes format onto the N900 - or will I have to convert my music files?
I'm sorry to bother you, but I have two questions related to my N900. I have a headset for my N95 8GB and it works fine, but the media buttons on the headset won't work with my new phone. Is there a way to make them work or is there a headset with those buttons that will work with N900? My second question is about zip-programs. What is the best program available for N900 for zipping/unzipping files with my phone? I am not so familiar with linux/maemo so I plugged my N900 into my pc and unzipped them with PC.Otherwise I have been very happy with my new phone.
