When you go into settings, at the very top bar there's a settings drop down button. I have 3 options there:
Restore original settingsClear deviceEnter code to remove operator lockWhy would a sim free phone bought from a nokia retail outlet store have an operator lock?
I received a txt message from vodafone back in june that said to restart the phone to receive updated vodafone sime menu service. I dont know if it worked because i'm not sure where the sim menu is on the n900 but i'm curious if this is what has introduced the menu options above.
I should mention at this point that when i was in the US earlier this year, i was able to stop my phone looking for a gsm signal and concentrate on wifi only. Now i can't seem to find an option to turn of gsm. When selecting the network from the phone menu, i only get Dual, 3G and GSM.i don't get the wifi option anymore, hence me asking if this operator lock has interfered with it.Has anyone else got this and if it wasn't vodaphone, what is this operator lock?
i have downloaded fapn and configured the settings, now when i go on the application manager and find fmms, it only finds fmms 1.0.3, now iv downloaded this and followed this video off Internet http://www.Internet.com/watch?v=zardaw47lh8 on how to set it up, yet the version the person in the video downloads is 0.2.8-1 and has different setting to the one i find and download. iv tried sending an mms and always comes up with the error: - 2 name or service not known, please make sure ur apn settings r correct!
I downloaded the FMMS app and try to send mms but it keeps giving me an error for APN location. the only apn location available is tmobile internet and below there is a mmsc: http://... I also am not sure what goes in there as an address.and what would be the resize 120? 200? tell me that this app actually works?

I used the map downloader from Nokia to download maps to N900. Even after downloading complete germany maps, N900 still downloads more data . Later on I just copied the cities folder from my E71 to N900. Even after that there were no maps preinstalled. I am using PR1.1. Any hints
I have a N900 and know the Ovi software does not work with it. I am trying to find a PC Messaging Application which I can use to type and send SMS from the PC, and which would help me back up my SMS from the N900 to the PC. Does anyone know of any such applications?
Couldn't get my n900 to work on WLAN, with SIM or without SIM card.apparently everything works fine, except the device keep saying that couldn't find the IP address.
The WH-205 earphones that came with my N900 have died; there is an internal break and it has lost sound to one ear. I don't want another pair of them, I'm looking for an alternative set of in-ear earphones with a mic. Can anyone suggest something that has been tested with an N900? I bought a pair of Klipsch S2m earphones which had been suggested, but they don't work, they make a strange and loud clicking noise, so it seems the N900 is sensitive about which earphones/headsets work.Ideally I'm after earphones that have a cable, so I can use them on an aeroplane. Don't mind if they are Bluetooth too, as long as wired use is possible. I don't mind if special buttons don't work, as long as the audio and mic work correctly. Can anyone suggest anything that has been proven to work in practice?
Is there any hope, that this Superb Phone would some day do what the much simpler phones already ages do: Work as Voice Guiding Car Navigator? What is the matter, why not? When?
I can't get the WLAN to work without a SIM-card in the phone. I have the same problem if there is a SIM in the phone but I choose not to enter then pin when starting the phone. I have set up a WLAN that works fine with the SIM enabled so it seems as the settings are fine. Is there something special I have to do to enable the WLAN when there is no SIM in the phone?
iv installed the latest fmms and fapn. iv done this
Firstly, please note that installing any applications on the N900 from the extras-testing and/or extras-devel repositories can lead to your device being bricked, turning in to a coffee maker or killing your cat... The majority of people have no worries at all, and I haven't seen any problems reported with these two apps, but check at talk.maemo.org for more info.
Now, moving on to the guide...
For this, you'll need TWO apps: fAPN and fMMS.
To get these, you'll need to enable extras-testing. To do this, go to menu, more, app manager, application manager, application catalogues, then hit new. Enter the following:
Save this then back out by tapping the space about the word catalogues. The phone will check for updates. I'd advise NOT updating anything. Quit out of any messages about updating and get back to the main app manager screen. Click "download". Hit "All" and scroll down to fAPN. Install this by clicking on it. Repeat for fMMS. Go back to application manager, application catalogues, click on extra-testing and click disable. Tap out of this and close app manager. Next, run fAPN (under more in the menu). Add a new APN (do this twice). Call the FIRST one "Vodafone MMS", and call the SECOND one you make "Vodafone Internet". Once both have been made, close fAPN.
Next, go to menu, settings, internet connections. Click connections, click "Vodafone MMS" and click edit. Settings as follows:
Name: Vodafone MMS Type: Packet Data Access point: wap.vodafone.co.uk user name: wap password: wap UNCHECK prompt password.
Now edit "Vodafone Internet" and NOT "Vodafone Internet GPRS". We're doing this because once you add the MMS profile, the N900 automaticall connects to the most recently added APN which unless you make the second one, will be MMS. This means when connected to that you can't surf the web!!
Settings for "Vodafone Internet":
name: Vodafone Internet type: Packet data access: internet username: web password: web NO PROMT
Advanced: IP Addreses: Auto retrieve IP and auto retrieve DNS. Save. Finish. Quit out. If it says "Internet Connection Failed", click no. Connect manually to get back on the internet.
Now, for MMS, open fMMS. It will ask you for configuration settings. If it doesn't, click "fmms" at the top and tap configuration.
APN: Vodafone MMS MMSC: [url] Resize image width: 300 Your phone number: your number! e.g 07845987265 Save.
Now, manually connect to Vodafone MMS. To do this, tap where the battery icon, click internet connection and click vodafone MMS. Now, back in fMMS, you can send and receive MMS! It may warn you that you need to connect manually etc. When you're done sending and receiving, connect back to "Vodafone Internet". When you receive an MMS and you're connected to Internet and not MMS, you may get an error from fMMS. Just connect to Vodafone MMS and in the app, send/receive and the message will come through.
ever since bbc moved to flash 10 a couple of weeks ago, iplayer and bbc news videos no longer work on the n900. so does nokia have any plans to fix this by providing flash 10 to n900 usersis there a workaround that can be used in the mean time?lack of a functioning iplayer is a huge deal in uk as that is probably the most viewed flash site in uk (equivalent to claiming that the phone supports flash but doesn't play Internet). so i hope someone from nokia would take it seriously and break their silence on the availability of flash 10 on the platform.
I decided to go with PC Suite for Sync. I think it's a great program (I have never owned a Nokia.) PC Suite does say it is not fully compatible yet with N900. For sync though I have had no trouble. I noticed the backup feature didn't work - it thinks my phone is not connected. But the N900 does have a"Backup feature" on it. So I am guessing I can just backup the N900 using the N900 and then plug it into the computer and read it as a mass storage device - and copy the backup information onto the computer. That should work for backup/restore until they give an update to the program. Is that what others are doing here?
As for music... I don't know what t do. There is Media Sync for Blackberry which will transfer iTunes (not purchased iTunes unless you unlocked yours (which I did) it will transfer your iTunes play lists onto your Blackberry.
Is there something that will get music in the iTunes format onto the N900 - or will I have to convert my music files?
I'm sorry to bother you, but I have two questions related to my N900. I have a headset for my N95 8GB and it works fine, but the media buttons on the headset won't work with my new phone. Is there a way to make them work or is there a headset with those buttons that will work with N900? My second question is about zip-programs. What is the best program available for N900 for zipping/unzipping files with my phone? I am not so familiar with linux/maemo so I plugged my N900 into my pc and unzipped them with PC.Otherwise I have been very happy with my new phone.
I came to know that we can use OVI Maps in Offline in N900 from the below url http://maemo.nokia.com/n900/tips/maps/. But it asks a connection to proceed and search in OVI Maps doesn't work well. As well the locations are not auto populated. guide me to use OVI Maps effectively in offline in N900.
FYI, I downloaded the required maps in to my N900 using Nokia OVI Suite
as you can see i downloaded the fmms app for my n900 but i need the confiq settings for three network(uk),does anyone know them or perhaps point me in the right direction to get them.
first of all i had the problem that the programm was unable to download the content of the mms after it arrived, it only worked after i manually started a internet connection. but after that hell broke loose! every single time i opened the ovi store via icon, refreshed the weather app or tried to refresh the email client the n900 would all of a sudden pick the mms connection over my provider internet connection although my provider internet-connection was set to up under "settigs"->internet connections. i had to deinstall fmms and had to remove the mms-internet connection point using fapn. a total mess..
Has anyone tried fMMs applic? was it working okay on your fone? i have mine installed today but it failed to send photo. sending mms always returned a message saying "fMMS is not responding". Anybody knows how to use it please share to us how you did it.
