Nokia :: N900 / Flash Vulnerability May Affect
Jun 5, 2010
It seems the version of flash on the N900 is vulnerable to attack.. and attacks against flash already exist! To make sure your phone is safe until Nokia release an updated Flash plugin, you can disable flash:
1) Open the web browser and tap the top of the screen to open the menu buttons:
2) Press Options
3) Press Add-Ons
Select Shockwave Flash, then Disable. Then you can close the window.

Yesterday it was announced that Java has a security vulnerability that is actively being exploited by hackers.Security firms and homeland security are urging everyone to disable Java in their browsers url...Is disabling Java in our browers sufficient? I know I had to load/upgrade Java when I installed MotoCast. So, now I am wondering if the Java security vunerability affects MotoCast and if it does what should we do to protect ourselves? At present I'm inclined to completely uninstall Java since Oracle does not plan to release a patch for several weeks at least. Will this cause MotoCast to quit functioning?

Nokia, is there ever gonna be flash 10 support for the n900. When I bought this phone I was under the impression that it would be (as you advertised) the ultimate internet browsing experience. How is this possible when just about every other smart phone device has flash 10 support . Without flash 10 the n900's just another device with no other exceptional features.I bought the n900 to browse the net on the go, however due to lack of flash 10 and absolutely no support from you guys (nokia), I have now moved on to android and I have no intent on looking back to any if your future devices, as I'm quite sure many other n900 users have. How can you (nokia) release a "flag ship device" and drop support for it immediately afterwards. Hell I'd hate to see what you do to non "flagship devices." And my god, it's been 7......7 MONTHS and there's still NO OVI STORE SUPPORT FOR THE N900.To any future n900 buyers viewing this thread, do not buy this device! Nokia shows absolutely no support for it for over 6 months now and the only apps available for it are from a very hard working community, and they are very few , declining and they are also very...very **bleep** at nokia.

Is Flash 10.1 with hardware accelerated video coming to Nokia N900? Flash is a CPU hog on the N900 right now and renders the device unresponsive. It would be great if Flash 10.1 were to come to N900. Flash on Maemo was one of the main reasons for choosing N900.Android is getting it with 2.2 (Froyo) and with turn by turn navigation is already ahead of the game.

I Just reflashed my N900 to RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.19-1.203.1_PR_COMBINED_203_ARM and wanted to clear it completely by flashing RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM Though the first 1 flashes just fine, but the vanilla file wont flash. I entered this command flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_ MR0_ ARM.bin -f -R. It detects the device, then it says "booting device into flash mode" But then nothing happens anymore, phone does not show usb icon anymore And i just see flasher v2.5.2 <sep 24 2009> Image 'mmc', size 255947 kB version RX-51_2009SE _10.2010.13-2.VANILLA USB device found found at bus bus-0, device address \.libusb0-0001--0x0421-0x0105. Found device RX-51, hardware revision 2101 NOLO version 1.4.14 Version of 'sw-release': RX-51_2008SE _10.2010.19-1.203.1_PR_203 Booting device into flash mode Suitable USB device not found, waiting. Can anybody explain me why it wont do this? EDIT: Tried a few times to start over. Sometimes it reboots, and i see the low power mode 5fots moving. Then after a few seconds, it freezes on the 2nd dot.

The Droid Razr (and by associatation Droid Razr Maxx) are vunerable to the recently discovered "Remote Wipe" hack. I was wondering if a quick software patch was in the works to resolve this issue, or should I be installing a non-stock dialer to protect myself in the long term?

i realy your help in this one, now i live in Lebanon, and i'm searching for a n900, but the other day my freind told that you can't check for your balance in your phone operartor, is that true, were i live, you need to recharge your phone in before you make phone calls, send messages etc, and to see how much dollars(or what ever its called) you still have in what you have recharged, you need to press *11# and than the green button, and than a message shows up showing you your phone operator balance, is it true that that can't be done on the n900? i like it how i can overclock the n900 from 600 mhz to 1000 mhz in less than 30 sec.

I'm not here to report a problem. I'm just asking, out of curiousity. Yes, I've seen all the threads, and read the obligatory items on optimizing settings for power saving. Heck, I'm a "battery miser". I have no problem with premature battery drain. In fact, I'm a "light" user of my iPhone 4s, and have no problem getting an unusually long time out of a charge! Perfectly satisfactory.
However, I do *not* have Siri turned on (fear of battery impact). I was thinking of "toying with" Siri. But I haven't found, anywhere, a discussion of the affect of Siri on battery drain. Before I bother with an experiment, may I find, read, and benefit from the experiences of others in such a pursuit? Does Siri exact a heavy toll on the iPhone battery?

I just noticed after only a week of having 9700, that I have a very thin surface scratch on my track pad. It's not something that you can even really see unless you move it back and forth under a light (and I'm not that vain) but it got me wondering about the possibility of deeper scratches possibly affecting the function of the track pad?? I have babied this thing for the last week, and still got a fine surface scratch, so more heavy usage could possibly result in deeper scratches down the road. Although a very fine surface scratch might not affect the function, could a deeper one affect it?? And if that happens, how easily can the track pad be changed out by a local technician (or yourself)?

I am a perfectionist, and I am curious. Once, a little while ago, I jailbroke my iPhone 3G (somewhere in de OS 3 saga). I was quite surprised by some new features and I kept the jailbreak for a while. So I got texted, my call history extended et cetera.
But for some reason I wanted to get back to Apples pure, not modded, OS. But I still wanted to have my SMS history and Call History et cetera. On quite a few forums I read about an easy DFU mode and restore with the latest backup I made within iTunes. Written at those forums was that no jailbreak data was backupped in iTunes. Of course, this was a normal backup in iTunes, but from a jailbroken iPhone. I did my restore and my iPhone worked quite well. In fact it still does perfectly, with all histories and logs, in iOS 4.0.1.
But my question is: is there still some data in my iPhone right now from when it was jailbroken, tranfered with a backup created when it was jailbroken? In other words: does a jailbreak affect/harm a usual iPhone backup in iTunes in any way?
So, do I still walk around with some weird strings in my iPhone, or some 0's and 1's in some file?

I recently purchased my first ever Blackberry and I'm currently impressed and have some questions through
I've had a look round and managed to find a lot of what I've need from these forums already so I'm very thankful to everyone who's already replied to other queries as it's helped me.However I have a question that still remains unanswered.
I bought the phone with no data plan and I've looked around and have seen that to browse via wifi I have to set my browser to hotspot mode.I can browse on the mobile network but as pay as you go and this is expensive so I want to prevent it from happening. I've already incurred a few fees according to my online bill by trying to browse the wifi before I found hotspot mode.
I've found the data services entry. If I turn this off, will my phone still function as normal? (make calls, receive texts and receive picture messages?) - if it prevents my phone from accidentally connecting, that would be exactly what I need! However if it prevents this, I guess it's a useless option!

My best friend had his cellphone service turned off a few weeks ago and as of yesterday all my texts *to* him are turning into SMS. They aren't being delivered as iMessages. Those messages I've sent to other iPhone users (ie. my sister) aren't doing this consistent change over. I'm confused because 1.I've received all of the messages *from* him and 2. Isn't iMessage supposed to work between iOS devices regardless? How can we remedy this? He won't be able to restore his cellphone service for another few months and the primary on his plan is going to have their provider recycle the number.

In his iPhone Settings, under Accessibility, my boss has his Large Text set at 32pt font. However, about half of his work emails come through in the large font, and half do not (they come through in 5pt font, it's really small). The email is an Microsoft Exchange email, and I've had my fair share of problems working on an iPhone with an Exchange account, but this seems odd as there doesn't seem to be a reason why some emails come through in 32pt font, and other's don't. I don't know if it has anything to do with the length of the chain of the email, like 40 email responses come through small whereas an email chain of 5 responses comes through in 32pt. AppleCare had no idea, and did some troubleshooting (e.g. rebooting and try to reset all preferences) which didn't work.
