IPhone :: Would Deactiving Cellphone Service Affect IMessage Delivery
Apr 19, 2012
My best friend had his cellphone service turned off a few weeks ago and as of yesterday all my texts *to* him are turning into SMS. They aren't being delivered as iMessages. Those messages I've sent to other iPhone users (ie. my sister) aren't doing this consistent change over. I'm confused because 1.I've received all of the messages *from* him and 2. Isn't iMessage supposed to work between iOS devices regardless? How can we remedy this? He won't be able to restore his cellphone service for another few months and the primary on his plan is going to have their provider recycle the number.
I put my phone into Airplane mode at night to save battery and prevent it waking me up with texts or calls.I have noticed recently that, when deactiving Airplane mode, it remains on No Service, it refuses to connect to the next work, no voice or data.Repeated attempts to switch Airplane mode on or off have no effect, the only solution is to turn the phone off and back on again.Once done, the phne operates normally.I am now having to physically turn the phone off at night and then back on in the morning.
You know the sound the phone makes when you send an SMS? The little "boop" sound (haha). I like it because when I am texting from apps like tlert or biteSMS, it verifies that the text was sent. This is useful for me in areas where I have poor service as a verification. Why do I need this? Because I have often sent a text, then gone back hours later to see that it never sent. This is due to a combination of poor service in certain areas and the fact that I usually keep the ringer switch set to vibrate.
I searched a long time trying to find something that would make my phone vibrate when the message was sent, but couldn't find anything, so I went into the files and figured it myself. I did this all in iFile, because it was way easier then through SSH - but you can do either one.
1.) open iFile/SSH into your phone.
2.) Go to System>Library>PrivateFrameworks>Celestial.Framework and open the file "SystemSoundBehaviors.plist"
3.)* Scroll down to: <key>SMSSent</key> <dict> <key>RingVibrateIgnore,SilentVibrateIgnore,RingerSwitchOff</key> <array/> <key>RingVibrateIgnore,SilentVibrateIgnore,RingerSwitchOn</key> <array> <string>Beep</string> </array> </dict>
You will want to change this to: <key>SMSSent</key> <dict> <key>RingVibrateIgnore,SilentVibrateIgnore,RingerSwitchOff</key> <array> <string>Vibrate</string> </array> <key>RingVibrateIgnore,SilentVibrateIgnore,RingerSwitchOn</key> <array> <string>Beep</string> </array> </dict>
4.) Save the file, and reboot your phone.
5.) It may not work right away; it actually took a day or two to take affect on my phone, but is working now. It a nice verification system.
* There are all other sorts of sound behaviors that you look at it in there, such as when you flip the ringer switch (whether it vibrates or not). There are multiple settings for each action. Look at the keys: Ring or Vibrate? Or ignore? Silent or Vibrate? Or ignore. Is the ringer switch on or off? Or ignore?
I have decided after reading all the threads that I will pre-order from Apple next Tuesday and now need to decide whether to have home delivery or in store delivery. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? Ive heard that to home there may be activation issues and its better to be in store for troubleshooting but in store on launch day may be packed and I may have to wait I've heard that they have 2 different lines for walk ins and pre-orders is this true? If I send to store can I pick up anytime that day? How does apple ship their orders UPS.FedEx.Etc.Just want to get all the facts for both options if possible. This is my first time pre-ordering and just want to be prepared and make the right decision.
iPhone's being shipped by UPS will be delivered on the 24th iPhone's being shipped by Fedex will be delivered on the 23rd (It shouldn't matter if you ordered through AT&T or Apple.com) The only evidence to back this up is Apple's email to its customers claiming a June 23rd delivery, and all of these orders have Fedex as the carrier. This could mean that AT&T customers with Fedex as the carrier will also receive their iPhone's on the 23rd as well. Though for most AT&T customers there is no data for their tracking. EDIT- Some Fedex tracking information is showing a June 23rd delivery, on par with Apple.com orders. Fedex could be exclusively dealing with June 23rd deliveries while UPS is dealing with June 24th (Actual Launch Day) deliveries.
So I have an old iPhone 4 that no longer has cellular service. I just updated to the latest version of iOS, signed in with my Apple ID, and now want to activate iMessage on this device, but it says "waiting for activation". Is there a trick to get iMessage activated on this device?
I will be out on a meeting for work that morning that FedEx normally arrives but my girlfriend will be home that day all day.Can She sign for it or does the signature HAVE to be my name?
That's my FedEx status right now. It's currently on a FedEx vehicle near my city. I can't remember if there's another status after that, maybe "Out for delivery" is what comes next or something? Will my phone come TODAY?
I have someone from another forum claiming that using a screen protector will permanently affect the screen of the iPhone 4 were they to choose to remove it and go naked. Affecting it's "beauty" and "smoothness". Is this BS?
I'm not here to report a problem. I'm just asking, out of curiousity. Yes, I've seen all the threads, and read the obligatory items on optimizing settings for power saving. Heck, I'm a "battery miser". I have no problem with premature battery drain. In fact, I'm a "light" user of my iPhone 4s, and have no problem getting an unusually long time out of a charge! Perfectly satisfactory.
However, I do *not* have Siri turned on (fear of battery impact). I was thinking of "toying with" Siri. But I haven't found, anywhere, a discussion of the affect of Siri on battery drain. Before I bother with an experiment, may I find, read, and benefit from the experiences of others in such a pursuit? Does Siri exact a heavy toll on the iPhone battery?
Looking for a protective case (I've got 4 young children that would love to get their hands on it, and I tend to drop my phones), but don't want it to affect sound or the flash.
I am a perfectionist, and I am curious. Once, a little while ago, I jailbroke my iPhone 3G (somewhere in de OS 3 saga). I was quite surprised by some new features and I kept the jailbreak for a while. So I got texted, my call history extended et cetera.
But for some reason I wanted to get back to Apples pure, not modded, OS. But I still wanted to have my SMS history and Call History et cetera. On quite a few forums I read about an easy DFU mode and restore with the latest backup I made within iTunes. Written at those forums was that no jailbreak data was backupped in iTunes. Of course, this was a normal backup in iTunes, but from a jailbroken iPhone. I did my restore and my iPhone worked quite well. In fact it still does perfectly, with all histories and logs, in iOS 4.0.1.
But my question is: is there still some data in my iPhone right now from when it was jailbroken, tranfered with a backup created when it was jailbroken? In other words: does a jailbreak affect/harm a usual iPhone backup in iTunes in any way?
So, do I still walk around with some weird strings in my iPhone, or some 0's and 1's in some file?
I superstitiously keep about 20% of my iPhone 4's storage space free to account for OS swap files or data management - some sites recommend doing the same to keep the phone running snappy. Does this have any real effect on performance?
In his iPhone Settings, under Accessibility, my boss has his Large Text set at 32pt font. However, about half of his work emails come through in the large font, and half do not (they come through in 5pt font, it's really small). The email is an Microsoft Exchange email, and I've had my fair share of problems working on an iPhone with an Exchange account, but this seems odd as there doesn't seem to be a reason why some emails come through in 32pt font, and other's don't. I don't know if it has anything to do with the length of the chain of the email, like 40 email responses come through small whereas an email chain of 5 responses comes through in 32pt. AppleCare had no idea, and did some troubleshooting (e.g. rebooting and try to reset all preferences) which didn't work.
I purchased a Nokia 1661 in the US in September 2009. Is it possible for me to be able to use it again by re-registering it from the UK before I return to the US again in September this year?
I have a xperia Z2 cell phone. When my cell phone is in sleep mode and someone calls me  by viber it does not ring and does not wake my phone up so when i wake it up , i have missed call.
I have an HTC Touch Pro that I just bought a few weeks ago. It had a full charge this morning. It's about 9:30 and it's already completely dead. I talked for fifteen minutes on the way to work and I've checked email a few times. But that's about all I've done with it. Why is the battery dying so fast?
I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1 when it was released. My friend updated his iPhone 4S delayed, yesterday. Before yesterday iMessage worked well between our iPhones. But since my friend updated to iOS 5.1 as well, iMessage does not work anymore between our two iPhones.iMessage works well with all other adresses we both use as well. But only our two iPhones cannot use iMessage anymore.
I cant remember the manual setup menu code (like ## something something, send) for Samsung first of all, so if someone could help me out with that I know I can do the rest myself.. But it was a phone once used for US cell and I want to use it on my Alltel plan. When I put the ESN on the verison website it keeps saying cannot activate the phone, but I am assuming its cuz I totally need to enter the manual setup first. Anyone know what that is? I've been searching on the forum for a while and cant seem to find it. After reading more I think I need to flash the phone to Alltel. I've used Bitpim before to edit things on phones before, is this what I am going to have to do? something with Bitpim?
