View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to potentially acquire a friends iphone and plan with unlimited data. Can he transfer responsibility if he ports his number to another provider? Do I need to keep his phone number or can I port mine to the phone on the account? I've heard MANY conflicting statements and wondering if anyone has a solution. I'm looking for the best way of getting unlimited data.

I just don't know why should we connect Iphone to wireless router when we have chance to do that?
I got "Unlimited data plan".
With the iPhone, I'm paying $71 a month for TMobile with the Unlimited Data & Text plan along with 500mins. I have my office Blackberry, so normally I just use that to call people, so no big deal on the lack of phone mins. What are you guys paying? I'm looking to reduce my monthly bill somehow.
View 11 Replies View RelatedVerizon Wireless now has a really good hotspot tethering plan for 4G phones. For $30/mo you get unlimited 4G tethering on your phone which is a bargain compared to the tablet plans especially considering 4G is 10x the 3G speeds. It makes we want to run out now and get a Samsung Charge so I can drop my 3gB Xoom plan. I'm going to stick with my Xoom data for now and hold out a three or four weeks for the Bionic. Hopefully Verizon won't change this offer before the Bionic comes out.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI will start by saying that I did/do like the service/price of Red Pocket. I mean you $49.99 for "Unlimited Everything" except data, No Contract etc... Very appealing to me that was for sure. However, I recently found out that there isn't always TRUTH in Advertising!!! After weeks in the field training Soldiers for Combat, I finally got a Weekend off. So Naturally my phone got a little busy especially since it was also my Birthday Weekend (we call this "Peek Traffic"). Being a Single Soldier I had multiple "Lady Friends" communicating with me that wanted to spend time and celebrate with me during my minimal time off. However, unknown to me Red Pocket has their system set so that if you send/receive 1,000 texts in a 24hr period the system will automatically turn off your texting ability. When I called in to figure out why text wasn't working the Operator (can't call them Customer Service Reps as they don't have enough training and that would require them to actually Resolve your issues and make the Customer happy) said that it was cut off because I had 1,000 texts in a 24 hour period and that is considered "Unreasonable Use (UU)" according to their "Terms and Conditions (TC)". She just kept repeating that phrase and talking about the 1000 texts like I was so wrong and I was a horrible person for it. When the fact was I usually don't use it that much but had been in an Army Exercise for weeks and was my first day off and out of the woods in weeks. yes I was talking to several women at once and having "individual"conversations with each of them. Isn't that what men do? Especially men that have been in Combat Training for weeks with no chance to socialize and talk to any ladies?
I read the TC para III (b) and no where does it mention anything about 1000 texts in a 24 hour period and it says that texts are allowed unlimited provided that it's for conversations between individuals. This is what Red Pocket's definition in the TC is: "UNLIMITED text services are provided solely for live messaging purposes between two individuals" (this was taken directly from their TC). This was exactly the type of messages that I had during that period. This is what the TC says can allow Red Pocket to disconnect your text: "UNLIMITED text services may not be used for Premium SMS which utilizes short codes, SMS chat programs, monitoring services, data transmissions, or other connections that do not consist of uninterrupted live messaging purposes between two individuals." Can someone Please tell me how these two phrase equate to an Operator telling me that my use was Unreasonable? Especially since this is their definition of Unreasonable? It also says that prior to RP taking any action that they would notify the user. I wasn't ever notified and they just turned it off the afternoon before my Birthday and during conversations with my lady friends. Then the operator said it was impossible to turn back on unless I purchased a new plan. A new plan??? This one was only 13 days old... Why would I pay another $49.99 just to get text messaging? She also said that there was no one else to speak with about it and that there was no supervisor. Now I can understand why they wrote the TC like they did. They wrote it so that Companies and idiots can't purchase one of their plans and spam people with advertisements and such and send out thousands of texts for business purposes etc... But These texts were not for any business purposes.. They were for Socialization Coordination Efforts commonly referred to as "booty calls"... All they had to do was look and could have been able to tell that easily. But at least as a Customer Service Rep, you should at least be able to resolve a customer's issue and make them happy to keep them as a customer. Especially something as simple as turning text back on and offering a warning or something. So beware All.... Unlimited to Red Pocket means find a reason to turn off your service and force you to Purchase an Additional Plan. So maybe their definition of Unlimited is an unlimited scheme to get your money. I am writing this for two purposes: 1. Because Red Pocket needs to be aware that their Employees are incompetent at Customer Service and Because there doesn't`1 seem to be any leadership when you call there. 2. For the amusement of others to laugh at such a lengthy post regarding the loss of Text messages. Because on the grand scheme of things this is a small thing. But hey if no one ever says anything about them or to them, then they will continue to treat others like that.
I bought my sprint iPhone 4s because AT&T is throttling my data connection. I having been using my AT&T razor for a data connection since before the term "tethering" was invented. For those of you who are thinking of switching to sprint because AT&Ts is throttling your unlimited data plan.....don't...the data connection with sprint and the iPhone 4s is actually slower than my old AT&T razor throttled and the sprint plan is more significantly more expensive. For this reason and because ever since I downloaded my first app I have been spammed relentlessly and because Siri is really a beta app and because the iPhone locks up on occation, I am giving my iPhone back to sprint.

Right now I'm on a TELUS family plan with 4 people and there are no iPhones. I want to get an iPhone and have it on the family plan but also not buy a data plan. Is it possible to do this? So basically my plan would be around $25 a month with unlimited text and caller ID.

I'm not here to report a problem. I'm just asking, out of curiousity. Yes, I've seen all the threads, and read the obligatory items on optimizing settings for power saving. Heck, I'm a "battery miser". I have no problem with premature battery drain. In fact, I'm a "light" user of my iPhone 4s, and have no problem getting an unusually long time out of a charge! Perfectly satisfactory.
However, I do *not* have Siri turned on (fear of battery impact). I was thinking of "toying with" Siri. But I haven't found, anywhere, a discussion of the affect of Siri on battery drain. Before I bother with an experiment, may I find, read, and benefit from the experiences of others in such a pursuit? Does Siri exact a heavy toll on the iPhone battery?

I am a perfectionist, and I am curious. Once, a little while ago, I jailbroke my iPhone 3G (somewhere in de OS 3 saga). I was quite surprised by some new features and I kept the jailbreak for a while. So I got texted, my call history extended et cetera.
But for some reason I wanted to get back to Apples pure, not modded, OS. But I still wanted to have my SMS history and Call History et cetera. On quite a few forums I read about an easy DFU mode and restore with the latest backup I made within iTunes. Written at those forums was that no jailbreak data was backupped in iTunes. Of course, this was a normal backup in iTunes, but from a jailbroken iPhone. I did my restore and my iPhone worked quite well. In fact it still does perfectly, with all histories and logs, in iOS 4.0.1.
But my question is: is there still some data in my iPhone right now from when it was jailbroken, tranfered with a backup created when it was jailbroken? In other words: does a jailbreak affect/harm a usual iPhone backup in iTunes in any way?
So, do I still walk around with some weird strings in my iPhone, or some 0's and 1's in some file?
My best friend had his cellphone service turned off a few weeks ago and as of yesterday all my texts *to* him are turning into SMS. They aren't being delivered as iMessages. Those messages I've sent to other iPhone users (ie. my sister) aren't doing this consistent change over. I'm confused because 1.I've received all of the messages *from* him and 2. Isn't iMessage supposed to work between iOS devices regardless? How can we remedy this? He won't be able to restore his cellphone service for another few months and the primary on his plan is going to have their provider recycle the number.

I superstitiously keep about 20% of my iPhone 4's storage space free to account for OS swap files or data management - some sites recommend doing the same to keep the phone running snappy. Does this have any real effect on performance?

I have the 8520, and have no data plan with my carrier in my post payment plan, i thought , since i have wi-fi at home, office and tons of hot spots. I can use my BB to access the web using free wi-fi as i have been doing with my last 4 smartphones.Big mistake. i have been charged 55 us last month, for data transfer use , i ran to my planŽs assistance office ( telcel in Mexico ), and the answer i got was. you have to get a data plan from us to be able to use wi-fi ( obviuosly i stared at her , just nodding my head ).There is no point in having a device that has acces to wi fi networks , if i cant access the wi fi network without you data plan, so i got the lady to bring the tech guy. His response was...naaahhh...it will access the wi fi. but weŽll charge u anyway. you need to disable the network from the phone and only leave the wi fi option on so you can access without any other charge, but this will leave you with no phone connection.
Is this real? did i just spend 399us in a gadget that has wi fi capabilities but will not be able to get on any wi fi connection form home or work, without being charged for data transmission over my cell providers network?cmon this sounds as stupid as it does in my head ? i would be really disapointed if i just left my old Nokia E71 SPhone, for this beautiful BB Curve 8520 THAT DOES NOT CONNECT TO THE WI Fi.
In his iPhone Settings, under Accessibility, my boss has his Large Text set at 32pt font. However, about half of his work emails come through in the large font, and half do not (they come through in 5pt font, it's really small). The email is an Microsoft Exchange email, and I've had my fair share of problems working on an iPhone with an Exchange account, but this seems odd as there doesn't seem to be a reason why some emails come through in 32pt font, and other's don't. I don't know if it has anything to do with the length of the chain of the email, like 40 email responses come through small whereas an email chain of 5 responses comes through in 32pt. AppleCare had no idea, and did some troubleshooting (e.g. rebooting and try to reset all preferences) which didn't work.

It seems the version of flash on the N900 is vulnerable to attack.. and attacks against flash already exist! To make sure your phone is safe until Nokia release an updated Flash plugin, you can disable flash:
1) Open the web browser and tap the top of the screen to open the menu buttons:
2) Press Options
3) Press Add-Ons
Select Shockwave Flash, then Disable. Then you can close the window.

I just noticed after only a week of having 9700, that I have a very thin surface scratch on my track pad. It's not something that you can even really see unless you move it back and forth under a light (and I'm not that vain) but it got me wondering about the possibility of deeper scratches possibly affecting the function of the track pad?? I have babied this thing for the last week, and still got a fine surface scratch, so more heavy usage could possibly result in deeper scratches down the road. Although a very fine surface scratch might not affect the function, could a deeper one affect it?? And if that happens, how easily can the track pad be changed out by a local technician (or yourself)?
