View 2 RepliesI superstitiously keep about 20% of my iPhone 4's storage space free to account for OS swap files or data management - some sites recommend doing the same to keep the phone running snappy. Does this have any real effect on performance?

iPhone 4, iOS 5.1.1
I'm performing a simple mod for a mate of mine on his S6 (Sm-G920F), which he bought unlocked, but is using on EE. Wifi calling isn't enabled on non EE Firmwares, which has cropped up a few times on here, but it's easy enough to enable.
Basically I rooted the phone (no pingpong for it yet so used CF-Autoroot via odin), and I edited system/csc/others.xml to include the line - <CscFeature_Setting_SupportWifiCall>TRUE</CscFeature_Setting_SupportWifiCall> then enabled Wifi Calling in the phone app settings
This worked like a charm, sent my mate his phone back and all is right in the world...UNTIL he calls me saying that he want's to use a particular paid sport streaming service which detects his phone is rooted and blocks access.
Now I like a challenge, and it doesn't sound beyond the wit of man so I get the device back and try a few things...
1) Remove root via Super SU, rip the unrooted recovery and cache img files from the stock firmware, create my own md5 and flash via Odin.... Flashes but bootloops
2) Flash the stock firmware, create a flashable zip containing a modified others.xml, boot into recovery, flash update via adb... Flashes but bootloops
3) Download the stock EE firmware...Won't flash from Odin
4) Scour the web for a non rooted S6 ROM with Wifi Calling enabled.. So far no joy!
I reckon I must have missed something, any alternate way to enable Wifi Calling or an "Unroot" method that doesn't require a total wipe?
So I accidentally deleted files off my internal storage in an attempt to free it up (it said miscellaneous but didn't realise this included all my received whatsapp pics and videos).
So I've read that I need to root my phone in order to try recover these, I've so far downloaded odin and ran the pda which passed. Then I put SUSuper I think on my internal storage and from this point my phone stopped following the tutorial.
My quite new (3 weeks) S6 did a factory data reset on its own. It happened while I was driving for 2hrs on a highway, with the phone resting on the empty passenger seat, not touching the phone. Lost all data, all apps, all pics. Very frustrating. After 3 days of research (visiting Verizon store, calling Verizon, calling Samsung, internet research), the possible cause may the following:
About 2-3 hours before driving, the phone did a scheduled automatic update, which took more than 30 min to complete. This all happened in a signal-weak area. Tech support said, although the update completed, it may have had some flaws, and when the phone detects that, it may resort to a factory data reset to avoid greater functionality problems.
Unfortunately, the end result included functionality problems, most notably that the phone calendar only synched partially (!!) with my desktop Outlook calendar, and promptly I missed two important appointments.
When a scheduled update comes your way, make sure you backup all contacts, photos, data etc, before allowing an update to perform.
Does factory resetting a few times affect battery?Does software reinstalls affect battery?

I've had a look round and managed to find a lot of what I've need from these forums already so I'm very thankful to everyone who's already replied to other queries as it's helped me.However I have a question that still remains unanswered.
I bought the phone with no data plan and I've looked around and have seen that to browse via wifi I have to set my browser to hotspot mode.I can browse on the mobile network but as pay as you go and this is expensive so I want to prevent it from happening. I've already incurred a few fees according to my online bill by trying to browse the wifi before I found hotspot mode.
I've found the data services entry. If I turn this off, will my phone still function as normal? (make calls, receive texts and receive picture messages?) - if it prevents my phone from accidentally connecting, that would be exactly what I need! However if it prevents this, I guess it's a useless option!
Right so I rooted my phone , don't really know much about rooting etc but the thought of getting a new rom and removing all the boatware was good so I rooted but didn't really get a new rom or remove any of the pre installed apps because a new update came out (ota) so I thought the only way to get the update was to unroot so I unrooted and but the cid number I needed I couldn't find which was orang001 1.70.73.2 but instead I used orang202 1.70.73.2 and now my bootloader is relocked , s on and I have tried to root again and now I cant cos it says the token is wrong , I cant update either because of a message that keeps popping up saying varirant system version , I just want my phone back to normal or even the new update , the pre installed apps are French aswell...

So, any easiest way to root? I'd rather not trip knox but I will if I need to.
I saw a post about rooting without tripping knox but it lost the fingerprint scanner and I'd rather not lose any functionality.
Anyway, if it was, that would make it a pretty nice low-light performer, at least on paper. Low-light performance is really important to me (and I hate how flash ruins shots), but I can't seem to find any info on this. Does anyone know?

I am keen to root but it seems far more potentially troublsome, and far less straightforward.I bought this in New Zealand from Spark. I assume it is locked? Is the bootloader locked?I couldnt find the matching build on Chainfire, Can this particular model be rooted? Is there any guide to rooting? It seems all the information is spread out all over the place and no definitive guide and FAQ.I can't even find the original stock rom.Is rooting not similar to jailbreaking in the way it is done?

Smooth with no pauses or lag. Does not even seem to get hot. Can any damage be done?
I also turned off the animations as well which could also contribute to the speed feeling really fast. My battery does not appear to be draining much faster.

Everything works flawlessly but the phone seems to be unable to enter in deep sleep mode. I have already cleaned my cache from stock recovery without success.
I bought S6 edge a few days back, yesterday it prompted restarting the phone after turning on the virus protection after turning off it doesn't boot and is frozen on Samsung logo screen . Tired everything resetting it through ODIN but ever after rooting and resetting it still does not reboot.

2) Press Options
3) Press Add-Ons
Select Shockwave Flash, then Disable. Then you can close the window.
