I am getting things set up to root my Nexus 6p using a Macbook Pro. I have Android Studio installed & I see the platform-tools folder like the tutorial says. But my phone isn't showing up as a device on my Macbook nor is the terminal command "adb devices" showing it. Need to successfully rooted their Nexus 6p using a Macbook Pro?
View 10 RepliesI recently purchased a Nexus 6P, which I think is an absolutely brilliant device. Despite this I would like to mess around with it behind the scenes (root, different ROMs etc). Firstly I'd like to edit build.prop.As such as I have installed the Android SDK, installed the relevant things needed such as the USB drivers and platform tools. I've enabled USB debugging in the Developer Settings and ADB works fine when the phone is in normal mode. Booting in to fastboot mode also works.
Unfortunately, when I enter Recovery mode the phone disappears from ADB devices and from Device Manager on Windows. Strangely selecting the sideload option means the device shows up in both places, but I can't use the commands I want.
I've tried various official drivers, unofficial drivers and even edited the official drivers to add my hardware ID with no luck. I'm somewhat new to modern Android so I may be missing something obvious.
Just curious why unlocking creates the /storage/emulated/0 directory?
View 2 Replies View RelatedOn Chainfire's thread there is a link to a boot image for the MDB08K build of our phones, but nothing else. I personally have build number MDB08L and when I tried rooting the phone and flashing TWRP, I became stuck in a bootloop that I was eventually able to recover from. That was using the stock boot image for the MDB08L build number from Google's site.
My question simply is, how can we root any version other than the MDB08K build because we don't have a modified boot image of any other build.
I want to copy images from my phone to computer but what i have noticed is that it is not showing up all the images ! I have 697 images but it is showing only 297 images while connecting to PC. The images are there in Nexus 6P but it's not showing in PC. Tried both MTP and PTP, also tried removing and installing new device driver in PC.

I have this same behavior in every other app that would match a name to number.
This includes text messaging apps.
Currently the phone has location services on in battery saver mode with location history off. After updating to 6.0.1 or some new version of the phone app I have been unable to search for nearby places in app. The toggles for it have been turned on and off multiple times, turned the phone on and off, played with turning location settings on in different modes with the location history on and off in each scenario. Haven't tried clearing the cache and I don't find it to be a big enough problem to warrant a factory reset.

However this time even with those files completely deleted the camera app still make the shutter sound. Is it like OEM camera apps now where the sound is built into the app and it's not using the folder sound anymore?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am not rooted. I can access my phone through Windows 10. But I cannot see all my folders. The 2 that I am having problems with are my Camera and Music folders. Some of the files are there. When I use ES File Explorer I can see and access them fine. Right now I cannot pull off any of the photos or videos I take. This all happened after upgrading to 6.0.1. I have tried 2 different cables and 2 different computers with the same results. I have made sure that USB Debugging is enabled. I also made sure that I had PTP and MTP enabled. Also upgraded to the latest 6P drivers for Windows 10.

Found another forum where turning the usb from MTP to charging and back under developer options does the trick. I have a non stock ROM and seeing if fresh out of the box experiences the same thing.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI got my Nexus 6P the other day and immediately flashed CM13 on it, and came across a couple of problems. I used the following guide, step by step: (Can't post links. but it's on Devs-Lab)
So, first off, after finishing everything (Unlocking the bootloader, Rooting & Installing Recovery and finally installing CM13) I came across a couple of problems. Firstly, my phone refused to start as it couldn't be decrypted even though I never encrypted it or set a password for the encryption (which it asked me for, to decrypt) so I tried to factory reset the phone. Didn't work, formated the phone which did work and now it launches / works with no issues. However, every time I start the phone it tells me that the device is corrupted and can't be trusted.
I want to reflash my Nexus 6P with a custom version of the AOSP. I can't access the device using "adb devices".

First I got message ( your device is corrupted. it can't be trusted and may not work properly ) although i didn't make any custom rom nor recovery nor unlock my boot loader
Second I got No command error , then boot loop all the way .....
After some google i tried to press power + volume up and down to enter recovery ( the stock recovery ). I did wipe cash + wipe data factory hoping it solve the problem but seems no way

I'm going to preface this with the nagging feeling I may be completely off-base with how I think OTA updates while rooted/custom recovery works, but here goes anyway.
I got my 6P at launch, and immediately went and rooted it. Everything's been fine except for the constant notification that there's an OTA update available. I've got TWRP right now, so just attempting to reboot through the system's standard update installation doesn't do anything.
I thought I'd just grab the manual updates and flash them from the web. I was positive I grabbed the right Before-to-After .zip, but trying to flash it through TWRP just results in it failing. Nothing breaks on the device, it just boots and runs normally, but I'd still like to get these updates installed.
What I'm currently thinking is that instead of chasing down build number update zips, I'd just use the downloaded one specifically and attempt to install it via TWRP. This poses the question:
1. Where does Marshmallow download OTA updates to when it attempts to flash them when you reboot?
and then the follow-ups:
2. Can I even do this via TWRP, or is there a different process that I should use that I've somehow totally missed?
3. Post-OTA update, will I need to re-root? (Not a big deal, just wanting to set my expectations)
I'm setting up my Nexus 6P and see this option that says I can transfer stuff from my old android to my new one but when I open Google App and go to settings I cannot find anything called "search for nearby device"...where is it? Also, is this feature in just Lollipop and higher?

View 3 Replies View RelatedFastboot recognizes my device, gives me confirmation of flash, but the device itself is not registering the commands and is stuck on "Connect USB Data Cable". I don't have my OEM cable and am using the iOrange-E C-A cable. I've tried different USB ports, restarting, etc.
fastboot says that the flash is successful, but the device never takes.
There was an app in the playstore that enabled doze as soon as the screen was turned off on the device.

There is no issue with adb, and I have tried re-installing both platform-tools and the entire SDK, but no luck. I don't run into this problem in Windows either,On further analysis, it looks like it has something to do with OSX. I've disable SIP and gatekeeper, and the issue still persists, so it looks like I'll just have to use windows for fastboot!
I have unlocked bootloader, flash modified boot.img and recovery but when I boot the device I get 'Your device is corrupt and may not work properly' I then get stuck on the google boot screen. When I go into TWRP recovery it cannot mount anything so I cannot even perform a factory reset.

Can I disable the cell signal automatically on the unrooted nexus 6P?
I know I can pop it in airplane mode and then turn back on bluetooth & wifi but I want to automate this process so that when I'm at work it will toggle the cell radio off.
I currently have an unlocked Nexus 6 running latest build of 5.1 on Verizon right now since Sunday. However I can't get the Nexus to show in my Android Device Manager. The Nexus does show in Google Play. I have cleared cache and data from Device Manager app, I have uninstalled and re installed Device Manager as well. I have went into Google settings>Security and toggled on and off "Remotely locate this device" and "Allow remote lock and erase". I have powered down and on this device several times. I have removed my Google account and then resigned back into the account. I just can't think of anything else to do. I have searched online for this problem and have done everything that was told to me. I am hoping not to factory reset the device but if its the last result, I may not have a choose.
P.S. Is there a setting that I'm missing that has either Gmail or Inbox app retrieve emails quicker. It doesn't seem to be refreshing or pushing the emails to my phone very often. I have missed couple very important emails because of this. Not sure if its a related problem with the device manager situtation (doubt it).
