Eseries / Communicators :: Transfer SMS From Nokia 9300i To 7-00?
Mar 26, 2011I have a major problem which is preventing me form leaving my Nokia 9300 behind. I depend on SMS a lot and I have my SMS archived on the phone in several folders (I don't keep them in the inbox of course). I was very happy to see that we can restore the "nbu" file directly to E7. However, I was surprised to see that Nokia PC Suite doesn't backup all of the SMS folders. It only backs up the original system folders (inbox, outbox, drafts, sent).I've tried copying or moving my SMS from the folders I've created for them back into inbox but the system doesn't allow that. I've tried copying them into drafts and it can be done but I lose all the crucial data (when and who).

Mar 1, 2010I like my E72 but I have two problems that really annoy me.
1. In the past when ever I would write a new email I would get list of suggested email addresses in the "To" field. For example, if I would was to write the letter S I would get the email address of the people in my address book whose name starts with an S (sam, Sofia etc). for some reason this feature stopped working on my phone and I can't find how to make it work again. if I want to send an email I need to manually write the email address in the "To" field. The auto suggestion feature works perfectly on my wife's phone (an E72 with the same firmware - 22.007) but on my phone it won't suggest email addresses from my contacts.
2. Another problem is that my Gmail that is synced to the phone, through the Nokia Messenger server is locked on "hide emails older than 2 weeks". Now, I have hundreds of emails stored on my phone that dates to February 1st - the day I got the Phone.
Is there a way to delete these emails automatically, without deleting them on the Gmail account itself? It makes my phone really when going through the emails.

Feb 18, 2010I have multiple email addresses on my phone (Work, School (2), and Gmail). I have set my work email as the default under default services under advanced options. If I am in messages and I use the menu to compose a new email, the correct default email (work) is used.
However, if I am browsing my files, like a picture, and I use the menu to select send as email, it will attach it to a new email but it will be my Gmail address, not my default work address as the from address.
I have double checked and my work email is set as the default. Does anyone know how to fix this? This is not a battery pull problem either... It has been this was since I got the phone, and on my replacement as well. I reboot the phone often so its not the standard do a battery pull answer.

I am going in via the messaging section, i'm asked to define the mailbox which I do by using the email wizard, select yahoo mail and add my email address, click ok and every single time it just keeps coming back as "unable to connect to server. Try again later"
I can get on internet, OVI store, call, text and use WLAN but this just keeps coming up the same. Is there any way to rectify this or is there some other way I can set up a few email addresses (I tryed my google one too and got the same response)

May 14, 2010I am running Maps 3.03 on an E71. While this version provides free turn-by-turn navigation, which is great, I find that providing the destination address is much less convenient than it was in the previous, non-free version. Before, you'd enter a city from a menu and having done that, you got a menu of valid streets within that city and so on. Now you just get a single text-input box into which you have to type the address (and deal with the system's invariably wrong attempts to complete things).
This step backward provides an additional incentive to want to be able to choose the destination address by indicating an entry in your contacts database. Navigate me to THIS restaurant, or the home address of THIS person, etc. There appears to be no way to do this, unless I'm missing something. And, inexplicably, there also appears to be no way to copy-paste an address from the contacts app to the Maps app. I've attempted to check the documentation, which in Nokia E71 tradition, is useless.
If I'm missing something here, I'd appreciate being enlightened by someone. If I'm right about this, this is another example of why Nokia's market share in the US is miniscule and why their share worldwide is dropping. Smartphones cram a lot of capability into a very small package, which places a huge premium on user-interface design. This is a major factor, perhaps THE major factor, in the iPhone's success, despite the fact that it's not so great for making calls (unlike Nokia phones, which excel in that department).

Feb 7, 2010I was previously using E71 and recently switched to 5230 touch screen phone.One thing that i really find it difficult is to find contact in address book. The search function bring up entire A-Z keys in 2 pages so flipping through the character set is little annoying... further as u type.the key set narrows (good feature) but then u have to look hard for the next key as the position has changed.I wonder if the search functionality similar to N72 (t9) is implemented here so that all the keys are visibile on single screen...(in home screen the dialer is the best place to implement. as u type the character the address books gets filtered)..
The character set flipping and changing position every time takes lots of effort.i would rather like to use a fix character set (the standard number+abc keypad) on same screen and see the adress get filter insted of flipping pages and trying to see where the next char is.
May i request the moderator to pass this message to 5230 team so that they might consider this a new feature request and we might get this feature in next Firmware release.

Apr 14, 2012I bought a used Nokia E52 with a hope to have maps in the pocket and GPS.After certain struggle I managed to install all maps and it seems to be working.However When I search for a street address, unless there is something on this street (in locations database.. like parking, hotel or restaurant), it doesn't fidn it at all.I looked at many forums, but I can't figure out if it's a bug or a feature.Can one just type a street address in OVI maps (let's say "Rue Saint-Bon, Paris"..or "6 Rue Saint-Bon, Paris") and expect it to find it. It seems the most basic and most important feature of GPS navigation - to find street address. But it just doesnt' work!

Aug 18, 2010I came across the following problems whilst trying to update an address in my favourites list:
*Editing the address does not change the position of the place - i.e. I now have an entry that shows all the correct info for one location, but is actually pointing somewhere completely different! I edited my entry from the Homescreen search (which seems to take you through to Location>landmarks.
*In Maps, I can't move a place to the right collection (organise collections) There is no scroll bar so I can only access the first few collections!!!
*Trying to get around this using Ovi Maps on PC fails too - After selecting the right collection to move it to, the message "cannot connect to remote server" comes up. There is no problem connecting to the server for any other functions, but for this one it is persistent.
I then went on to plan a route:
*Using Search in Maps does not include (or allow you to select) results from your own favourites or history!
*When adding a route point you don't have access to your collections (only a raw list of favourite places)
*After clicking "Start driving" in a route, you can no longer access favourite places or history at all!

I'm using v10.2 of the messaging software and on VirginMobile in Australia (though I've been trying to connect via wifi).
