Nokia :: No Offline Search For Address With Maps 3.01
May 17, 2010
I just loaded Nokia maps 3.01 for Nokia with upgraded firmware to 2.0 version (sic!) and I see that offline search for address always find no results. Is that because this tricky way of map load with out map loader? Or something may be wrong?
I am having a problem with my new Nokia 5230. The offline search does not work in OVI Maps. I installed the newest version 3.03 and uploaded the maps of my country (the Netherlands) to the phone. I am able to pick a direction while using the map itself but when i enter an address in the search bar it give the error: no offline results found.Maps is in offline modus because of my subscription without internet.tried entering just the streetname, streetname and city, streetname city and country, different streets.
Thank you Nokia for making maps free. We really love you for that. But I've already found the first serious bug. Even if you have downloaded maps to the phone (N97 mini), you can't search for addresse and places in offline mode. The old version could that.If you browse with your finger and browse through places, you will find everthing, but when searching freetext for places and addresses in offline mode, no result are shown.Guess Nokia will have to fix this soon. The workaround is of course to use online mode.
this may have been covered already but I'm new here (is that an excuse?).I can't get any search results with ovi maps on or offline, constantly say `No Results Found'. By manually searching the map I can then start navigation that but not by searching. At the moment I am reinstalling he maps via the map loader to see if that works.
I have a Nokia 5230 (RM-588) with firmware 20.0.005 and Ovi Maps 3.04. Memory card is Kingston 8GB. I downloaded maps that I needed and everything is working OK from that point.
Here is the problem: I search for an address (offline), Ovi Maps finds it, I rename it and save it to Favourites. I repeat that with some other addresses. Then I turn off the Ovi Maps and navigation and after I start it again, my folder Favourites - Places is empty. Any idea why the Favourites are not saved ?
First off, let me apologize in advance if what I'm about to ask has already been answered (I did a search, but I didn't find anything helpful)OK, so I got a new shiny N95, updated firmware to 31.0.015, installed OVI maps 3.0, so on and so forth. The phone works fine, but I'm having some problems with the maps.
Whenever I try to search for an address I get a (very) brief "searching online" progress bar, but every time I get "no results found", regardless if I'm searching for a full address or just a city.
I'm going to Europe soon and wanted to use my N97 OVI Maps as a navigation aid, so I've been testing it today in offline mode as data charges abroad are horrendous. My problem is that when trying to search for POI's i.e. Cash Machines, Restaurants, Train Stations etc. the offline search takes a very, very long time (perhaps over 5 minutes), if it completes at all. The phone locks up before it eventually shows me the results and then after 10-15 mins of waiting, I have to remove the battery to restart the phone for it to become usable again.
I'm not able to search the places in the offline search; although in online search it finds the places around the city. I saw a thread in forum which says, the new search is dosent go outside the city, but with 3.01 search was able to find anything which is available in the offline download. If that is the case, if u have older version..
Can anyone please shed some light on why Ovi Maps V2.0 was happy to operate offline on my E71 and show you all mapping detail when the newer version (3.03) does not. Everytime I open the app (in offline mode) there is no mapping displayed, only when I go onlie (which it will only allow when using my network operator (Orange) connectivity not my wifi, help here too would be appreciated) does it download any maps. So far its used 3.2mb of my monthly allowance and for liitle more than 10km of detailed mapping. Is 3.03 dependant on being online to have mapping data so you can scroll across map areas and zoom in to close detail or can this be in offline mode too? So far seems this 3.03 is a very inferior product when not wanting to be online all the time.
first, will maps work in 2700 classic at all ? second, will it work offline without using gprs ? third, can i update my maps s/w since .sis file dont work in 2700 ?
I bought the phone 3 weeks ago and was shocked to find out it only worked online ... not at all the way it was advertised (imho).Nokia Maps ''always free of charge'' was the one big reason I decided for a Nokia loyalty rather then going to Samsung or Apple.
1. Is / will Nokia Maps be available soon for Lumia 800 in offline mode, like the good old Nokia I had for 4 years?
2. Is there a good alternative (is Drive really an alternative and is truly offline)?
3. If none of the above - which Nokia smartphone does work offline with Nokia Maps? I still have a week's time to bring it back to the store!
I am a developer and I'm working on a prototype application using Qt on my E7-00.
I would like the users of my application to use maps in offline mode.
So If I use Nokia Ovi Suit , it will take hours to download all the maps (approx 9 GB of data)..more importantly ovi suit refuses to download maps if my phone is not connected to the pc.
Is there a way I can download the maps as a zip file or something from my pc and then later install them on my phone? If yes..where can I find the downlaod links? I am using an E7-00 with Symbain Anna update (round icons..cool!!)
So I've just downloaded the new free Ovi Maps for my 5800 and it's pretty nice, except for one thing: even when I set the connection to offline it still connects to the Internet every time the app is started (which, even though the app is fullscreen is visible when, for example you go into the settings screen). It seems though that after a minute or so it disconnects, but still, the old Maps app asked on startup whether to connect, this one just does without asking every time it's started.Am I missing some hidden setting?
I have nokia E72, I downloaded a map using Nokia Suite while my phone was connected to the computer, installed the map but when I go to the Maps option in the phone, I don't know where to find that installed map and how to navigate it?
Found a lot missing information on N9 maps. There is no way to download broken map again. It's possible to complete in online mode missing information, but found errors in France, Germany, Czech ( between Prague and Olomouc). Also my country Estonia is missing much detailed area data. Is it only N9 problem or are getting maps updated soon?
i'm from italy and i've just installed on my nokia 5800 the new ovi maps suite (after having updated the phone firmware, now i have 40.0.005).I've already unchecked the assisted-gps option in "positioning".When i use Maps, the phone finds the signal and track my location perfectly; after having set a destination it starts giving me directions (correct) but, after a few seconds, asks me to go to the shop. Since i don't want to go online (my data plan is awful) i select "no" and the planification disappears, returning on the interactive map. I'd like to know what to to, if there's a method to use offline navigation without additional roaming cost.
First off I just wanna say THANK YOU NOKIA for releasing this update for FREE.Im taking of my hat for you :-) Very much appreciated!I just have one question, is it possible to use the MAP program in offline mode (not connected to internet?)Before I did the update I was able to use the GPS without any internet connection, atm I need to be online to use the GPS and MAPs. I been reading back and forth for 2½ hours now searching for the MAP download to put on my memory card. But I cant find any link etc that get me to download the entire Swedish map (so I can use the GPS without internet connection) Or isnt that possible with this free service anymore ? (cause connecting to internet everyday and always when using the GPS can and will be very expensive The Phone is : Nokia 5800 XpressMusic The Phone Version is : V31.0.101 (Date: 19-9-2009) -updated yesterday OviMAPS (in phone) : V3.03 So could someone answer if its possible to download an map to the memorycard (as before) and use it offline?
I came to know that we can use OVI Maps in Offline in N900 from the below url http://maemo.nokia.com/n900/tips/maps/. But it asks a connection to proceed and search in OVI Maps doesn't work well. As well the locations are not auto populated. guide me to use OVI Maps effectively in offline in N900.
FYI, I downloaded the required maps in to my N900 using Nokia OVI Suite
Ovi maps app. is not connecting with net. Unable to download voice guidance language,my city map is not loading, not being able to search the destination. Whenever i start the maps app. it shows unable to connect with internet. Whenever i search a destination it shows "searching offline". Am using Nokia c5-03 and It shows as the latest update.
Nokia Maps app cannot connect to the internet. It remains in the offline mode. On trying connecting to internet connection failed is displayed. How could I make nokia maps online?
I read somewhere that Google is rolling out the new feature, so I guess my G4 just hasn't received it yet. Why why there can be a difference when the Google Maps have identical version numbers.
My VZW Galaxy Note 5 and VZW LG G4 have identical Google Maps version: 9.17.1 (#917101224)
However, the Note 5 was able to start using true offline maps/navigation/search while in airplane mode since yesterday.(provided that I downloaded the offline for the city first)
I was previously using E71 and recently switched to 5230 touch screen phone. One thing that i really find it difficult is to find contact in address book. The search function bring up entire A-Z keys in 2 pages so flipping through the character set is little annoying... further as u type.the key set narrows (good feature) but then u have to look hard for the next key as the position has changed.I wonder if the search functionality similar to N72 (t9) is implemented here so that all the keys are visibile on single screen...(in home screen the dialer is the best place to implement. as u type the character the address books gets filtered)..
The character set flipping and changing position every time takes lots of effort.i would rather like to use a fix character set (the standard number+abc keypad) on same screen and see the adress get filter insted of flipping pages and trying to see where the next char is.
May i request the moderator to pass this message to 5230 team so that they might consider this a new feature request and we might get this feature in next Firmware release.
I bought a used Nokia E52 with a hope to have maps in the pocket and GPS.After certain struggle I managed to install all maps and it seems to be working. However When I search for a street address, unless there is something on this street (in locations database.. like parking, hotel or restaurant), it doesn't fidn it at all.I looked at many forums, but I can't figure out if it's a bug or a feature. Can one just type a street address in OVI maps (let's say "Rue Saint-Bon, Paris"..or "6 Rue Saint-Bon, Paris") and expect it to find it. It seems the most basic and most important feature of GPS navigation - to find street address. But it just doesnt' work!
You really should be able to input stuff like "corner of x and y street", and also be able to drag route points on the screen on the web version. It's actually quite hard to use to find what you want sometimes.
I think I have broken Ovi Maps search. The problem happened when I chose to clear device. Settings ->task manager -> clear device
Ovi maps then failed to return any kind of search results even as general as Stuttgart to as precise as street names. I then proceeded to reflash to PR1.2 using flasher 3.5.exe and reflashed the vanilla eMMC as found in maemo dev repository. The problem persists. Even after loading some maps using the Map Loader, the problem persists. I think I have cleared some indexing capability of the device.
Maps (v3.09) on a nokia C7 worked fine until the last couple of weeks. Startup and positioning are OK. When I try to search for a destination though, the application crashes. Repeatedly. I can't think of anything I did lately (settings changes or new installs) that might have caused this. On the older threads regarding this issue, the best solution seemed to be updating the suite.
