I have Nokia 5800xm, I have updated the OVI maps to to version 3.3 and whenever I open it, mobile connects automatically to internet via GSM network which I don't want, before updating it asks me before if I want to connect or not. Now may most of application which need internet, it opens internet automatically. It does cost money because it's expensive to connect from mobile.

I don't want it to do this because I'm on PAYG and would like to be in control of when I pay to connect to the internet. There are no apps running and I've started uninstalling lots of things to try to narrow down why this keeps happening. The default connection is Always Ask, I've done everything I could find to make silent unconfirmed internet connection impossible. Is there any way of determining what is using the internet connection?

As soon as I use the 3G for internet, on my contract I will get charged £1 (as soon as connection is made). Obviously I'd like to avoid this (unless I decide to do some surfing / emails etc.).

Windows - Win 7 32 Bit (Upgraded from Vista)
Ovi Suite - 2.0.2.42
Connectivity - Via USB Cable
5800xm Version - 31.0.101 - RM356
Previously I used Windows Vista with my Sony Vaio Laptop without any issues. However Sony sent me some Windows 7 Upgrade Discs and of course I upgraded without looking into issues as I was sure that Nokia Software would be 7 Compatible, guessing i was wrong. Neither of the 2 applications can connect with my Phone since upgrading to Windows 7.
Both just sit there on the Connectivity Screen and eventually inform me that they cannot connect to the device or no device present. Inside my Device Manager i have several errors which are obviously causing my error. The following Names are displayed as NOT INSTALLED.

I've removed and re-installed both Ovi Suite and PC Suite and still the drivers dont appear. I've tried to remove and reinstall the devices via Device Manager, but Windows still reports the devices as NO Drivers. Where can i get these drivers from so PC Suite / Ovi can connect to my Device? Nokia Ovi Player works and transfers music with no problems, so the Cable is fine
I have recently updated to v50 firmware. I did first OTA, and then through Ovi Suite. I am experiencing several issues, the most severe of which is a substantially patchier internet connection. The internet connection worked well previously, but now it's a coin toss whether it will or not. This change coincided with the update. The auto-rotation has also become substantially slower. I have tried reinstalling the firmware, resetting the phone, rebooting, removing battery and SIM card, to no avail.
I am very happy for Nokia to be updating the firmware for a phone that came out a while ago, so this is just constructive criticism. I am overall happy with the phone, and all the improvements are very welcome. The main issue I had been experiencing was random crashing of the browser, and occasional random reboot from the phone.
when I go onto ovi maps I always get unable to connect please try again error message. This has been going on for 2 weeks now but it only effects the maps and store but I can get on every thing else.
View 23 Replies View RelatedSounds ok but alas no. It always connects around midnight, I presume something is trying to update. As I have no free net usage is costs me £1 per night. I have had the phone for around 2 months and this has started since i had the phone, the only thing I have installed is the network provider info, no apps or nothing. My service provider says there is nothing wrong their end and it must be the phone, they have cut off my internet and the charges have stopped, so something is definitely trying to connect, but as I have said the phone is standard. I cannot find any reference to anyone else having the same problem on the internet, I have downloaded kaspersky anti virus and it has scanned my phone and says there are no viruses.

Its cost me sixty pounds over the last 2 months. I've uninstalled most of my downloads incase one of them was automatically connecting for updates but this has made no difference. The other night I switched the phone off at midnight but it still connected when I turned it back on. I've rung 02 and they've said it must be to do with a setting on the phone.

This phone has got a mind of its own at the moment, Facebook widget tries to connect to packet network even when an existing wi-fi connection is extablished (and spotify is using it). I get a beep every time it fails.
In fact ALL widgets try to establish a packet connection when there's no need and i simply cannot change any settings to make this device work sanely.
I've bought a N97 mini and I'm very happy with it.However in the past week until now, I can't connect to the internet unless i connect via wireless lan.With GPRS i can't.I open the browser, it shows me on the top left corner the phone is trying to make a connection and then hangs up after 3seconds.

I have a Nokia 5530 since christmas with latest firmware update. My problem is that when i click into the Internet, the screen just flashes and automatically closes. I found that it consume quite a lot battery when I enable auto update, usually I need to recharge my phone every 2 days. Therefore, I turned off all automatic update includes sync of email. The problem is that my phone still keeps on asking me 'Select Connection' if I want to connect using Wifi, WAP or Internet. First of all, I do not know which app requires the connection. However when I go to Ovi maps on my phone it always says connection failed, if I try to go to my location I get the red dot flashing searching for position then will go solid for a short while and start to flash again, it gives my location about 1 mile from where I am. Also from the OVI maps screen if I try to sign into my Nokia accost,(To get A-GPS I think) I get the message saying this requires you to go online, 'yes' brings up the connection failed message. I can browse the internet and go to face book etc. With no problems.

When I looked at my phone the little display box was on the screen and only when I cancelled that did the alarm go off.
