View 4 Replies View RelatedMy phone will connect to my WLAN at home for no apparent reason (as in I'm not using the any application which requires interweb) and when I get annoyed and disconnect from that because it is just EATING my battery it think "Jesus there's no internet connection" panics then connects via gprs or whatever. Now I turned off the email program because it is eating my battery constantly being connected and am having to charge it every night! But is there any way of making it so that it only connects when the program is open? Any thoughts?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy recently performed a hard reset on my phone after trying to get the new Ovi maps loaded onto my phone. After successfully getting everything to work I noticed that my internet connection to Orange always switches on, even after going to connection manager and disabling it. I have tried everything I know but am unable to stop the phone doing this. It really drains the battery. Any help to understand why this is happening and a solution to stop it would be greatly appreciated.

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy 5800XM has stopped connecting to the internet.If I go to, say the Ovi Store, I get the frot page, but instead of going to the Store, it returns to the previous screen. The same happens with other websites, too. The phone usually asks how I wish to connect - WAP, wireless network and so on, but it is no longer doing so. I do hope I have just inadvertently changed a setting or something, as I have just got my phone back from being repaired, which took nearly 3 weeks.

However, there is no mention as to what program is requiring the access. Is there any way of knowing what program (when there's none presumably running in the background) is doing this?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI wonder if it's possible to share the existing internet connection on Nokia 5800 XM with the PC without internet connection?The setup is like this:
1. I have DSL Wi-Fi router in home
2. I have one computer which connects to DSL router using the USB Wi-Fi card - that's my primary internet computer
3. I use Nokia 5800 for wi-fi connection to router too
4. I have another PC which is audio DAW (digial audio workstation) and I don't want to dirt that one with any antivirus, antimalware software or any plug-ins required for using the internet.
Now, since there is a certain need to connect to internet with that DAW (mostly to utilize the web camera and make video calls without disturbing the rest of the family, since DAW is in the studio, a separate room), I wonder is it possible to use my Nokia 5800 in a way where I would just share it's internet connection with the DAW, so DAW would connect to internet with Nokia's connection? It isn't the same thing as using the smartphone as modem, it's an actual connection sharing, but I fail to find needed settings for such sharing on Nokia.I also wonder will the PC be at any risk at all since it would use internet connection of Symbian based system (the PC runs with WinXPSP2).
I often use wireless, but sometimes it has poor signal and is impossible to use so I also use simple mobile internet. Usually the phone using opera mini asks if you want to use mobile internet (not wireless) but now it almost never does, so I get the connection error message as there is no wireless, but I also cannot use my mobile internet. Just today it gave me problems because of that. So bassicly, I cannot use internet, unless I have good wireless signal. And I have mobile internet as priority number 1 in my settings. So is there something else to do? This problem is appearing and dissapearing. Thought could be from bad wireless, it kinda locks itself on it or something, but turning off the phone doesn't help.
View 9 Replies View RelatedA weird thing has started happening on my 5800 in that certain apps seem to have started failing to connect to the internet. If I use the browser then I get the connection choice menu i.e. WAP or WiFi, but certain applications have stopped giving this choice and therefore just sit there doing nothing. The only way I can get them to do anything is by connecting to a WiFi point first via settings then starting the application. This is okay when I'm near a WiFi point but it means cannot use these application properly on the move. The apps that are affected are Gmail, Googlemaps and Forcea Weather.
If anyone has any idea on how to fix this then I would be grateful for your help.
So I've just downloaded the new free Ovi Maps for my 5800 and it's pretty nice, except for one thing: even when I set the connection to offline it still connects to the Internet every time the app is started (which, even though the app is fullscreen is visible when, for example you go into the settings screen). It seems though that after a minute or so it disconnects, but still, the old Maps app asked on startup whether to connect, this one just does without asking every time it's started.Am I missing some hidden setting?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI seem to be having some problems using the internet on my phone but I'm not sure if it's the fault of the phone itself or T-Mobile. When I connect either via Wi-Fi or T-Mobile Internet, sometimes it hangs or kicks me off, closing the browser down as it does so, sometimes it doesn't disconnect despite me telling it to, and when using the Windows Live Messenger app it keeps losing the connection.
View 4 Replies View Relatedmy PC was able to connect to the internet with my 5800 via a USB cable. Now, I can no longer connect to the internet with the 5800 via a USB cable. I had never tried connecting the computer to the internet with the 5800 via Bluetooth prior to this incident, so I tried that. Strangely, it works. My question is how come I can no longer use the 5800 via USB as a modem, but how come the 5800 via Bluetooth still works as a working modem? Sorry, if my sentences are confusing. I have a terrible headache at the moment. While the Bluetooth connection works, I just feel better using the USB connection and knowing that my 5800 has a clean bill of health. BTW, my PC is on Windows 7 Professional at the moment. I've tried uninstalling the Ovi Suite and reinstalling it, but that didn't work. I've also tried using PC suite instead of the Ovi Suite but that didn't work either. What other options do I have, beside hard resetting the phone? Edit: BTW, the message shown when I tried to connect to the internet with the 5800 USB modem was "failed to establish a network connection".

View 4 Replies View Relatedi'm using a Nokia 5800 XM with the last firmware. i'm experiencing a problem, since nearly two months from now: when i go in Settings > Connection > Network Destinations and I click on "Internet", it won't open and it remains in the Network Destinations menu. I can open all the other items, but Internet won't open. I can only see that there are 17 destinations (I think most of them are Wi-Fi hotspots I used before).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an xpressmusic 5800 and have been using wireless through my home router (and others access points) with no problems for months. I cleared my page history a few days ago and since then (not sure if it related or not) I have been unable to connect to the internet either through my home router, a friends router or O2 active.
The phone crashed several times, shutting down and empyting the battery in the process, and after searching support forums I moved some files around to increase my phones memory space to 65MB. This appears to have stopped the crashing but I am still unable to connect. When I click on the internet symbol the screen goes black for up to 1 minute, then the connecting bar appears but nothing else happens, if left it just stays on that screen. I have my home router set as priority 1 in the connectivity > destinations list.
Mode = Infrastructure
Security = WPA/WPA2
Coverage = 1 access point
Speed = 54 Mbit/s
I just got this phone today but it keeps connecting to the internet via 3g and i dont know how to settle this problem.

View 9 Replies View RelatedHaving owned the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic for a couple of months or so, I must say that I really like the phone and it has great functionality.My main concerns/issues however are outlined below:
1. Facebook for Nokia app is slow, does not show all of the functions that m.facebook.com shows and isn't a homescreen widget (e.g. push notifications)
2. Communities app is even slower and again does not have the functionality of m.facebook.com and doesn't show notifications at all!
3. The Nokia Messaging app insists on connecting to 3G all the time, rather than a wifi connection when available. I've also experienced intermittent issues when trying to connect (sometimes it stays offline and even selecting 'Go online' doesn't wake the program up).
4. Default web browser keeps crashing and doesn't support larger websites (I experience intermittent crashes as well as memory issues). I do not receive such issues in Opera Mobile. I also dislike the defaulting to full screen mode all the time. If you turn full screen off, as soon as you navigate to a different page it goes back to full screen again, therefore increasing the activity on the phone and it takes longer to load the page before you can scroll or click another link.
I think I've covered all of my main concerns but in essence this device really needs better app support and social networking integration.I would be grateful if I could be given an update on if/when we can expect to receive such support.If anyone else agrees, please indicate below along with any additional feature requests relating to this topic.
Nokia have finally updated 5800 FW but i am unable to download it because the NSU isn't working correctly. Everytime I open the program I get the message; "Nokia Software Updater has attempted to connect to the internet but has failed three times. This could be because of a poor-quality, slow or intermittent internet connection, or restrictions due to a firewall.
If requested by your firewall, Nokia Software Updater needs the following applications to gain access to the internet:
nsl_host_process.exe
nsu_u_clienti.exe" The program will then close down.
I have a good, steady internet connection (10mb) and all firewalls are off.
