Nokia :: Sharing The Internet Connection Between 5800 XM And PC
Jan 24, 2010
I wonder if it's possible to share the existing internet connection on Nokia 5800 XM with the PC without internet connection? The setup is like this:
1. I have DSL Wi-Fi router in home
2. I have one computer which connects to DSL router using the USB Wi-Fi card - that's my primary internet computer
3. I use Nokia 5800 for wi-fi connection to router too
4. I have another PC which is audio DAW (digial audio workstation) and I don't want to dirt that one with any antivirus, antimalware software or any plug-ins required for using the internet.
Now, since there is a certain need to connect to internet with that DAW (mostly to utilize the web camera and make video calls without disturbing the rest of the family, since DAW is in the studio, a separate room), I wonder is it possible to use my Nokia 5800 in a way where I would just share it's internet connection with the DAW, so DAW would connect to internet with Nokia's connection? It isn't the same thing as using the smartphone as modem, it's an actual connection sharing, but I fail to find needed settings for such sharing on Nokia.I also wonder will the PC be at any risk at all since it would use internet connection of Symbian based system (the PC runs with WinXPSP2).
My recently performed a hard reset on my phone after trying to get the new Ovi maps loaded onto my phone. After successfully getting everything to work I noticed that my internet connection to Orange always switches on, even after going to connection manager and disabling it. I have tried everything I know but am unable to stop the phone doing this. It really drains the battery. Any help to understand why this is happening and a solution to stop it would be greatly appreciated.
when trying to access the Internet, any application, any type of access point: Error "connection not available". WLAN is connected but no browsing, no disconnects, WLAN disconnects just off the phone.
I have a problem to my phone. I'm just updated software and when I'm going to the internet, it shows an error- Connection not available. What I have to do?
A weird thing has started happening on my 5800 in that certain apps seem to have started failing to connect to the internet. If I use the browser then I get the connection choice menu i.e. WAP or WiFi, but certain applications have stopped giving this choice and therefore just sit there doing nothing. The only way I can get them to do anything is by connecting to a WiFi point first via settings then starting the application. This is okay when I'm near a WiFi point but it means cannot use these application properly on the move. The apps that are affected are Gmail, Googlemaps and Forcea Weather.
If anyone has any idea on how to fix this then I would be grateful for your help.
I seem to be having some problems using the internet on my phone but I'm not sure if it's the fault of the phone itself or T-Mobile. When I connect either via Wi-Fi or T-Mobile Internet, sometimes it hangs or kicks me off, closing the browser down as it does so, sometimes it doesn't disconnect despite me telling it to, and when using the Windows Live Messenger app it keeps losing the connection.
I have nokia 5800. I am able to connect to my office wi-fi with this. And after connecting when I do Start Browsing, I am also able to browse sites successfully. But when I go to home screen -> menu -> internet -> facebook, and try to open it. It shows me "Connecting through AirTel" even though my wi-fi is still connected, this facebook is trying to connect to internet with my service provider internet. Can anybody please tell me how can I educate facebook application to use my wi-fi internet connection and not the service provider one?
Laptop: Acer Aspire 5002WLMi, Windows XP SP2 Smartphone: Blackberry Bold 9700 Network Device: Bluetooth, Wifi (ad-hoc not available for bold 9700?)
I am using my laptop for traveling and I use USB CDMA modem connection to connect to the internet. Recently my wife bought a Blackberry bold 9700 hoping that she could access internet without carrying her laptop while traveling with me, sharing the same connection from my laptop. I have been trying to use WiFi to connect my bold 9700 with my laptop using ad-hoc but it seems that bold 9700 does not support ad-hoc. Therefore I am trying another way to connect to the internet from my BB using my Bluetooth. I have linked my blackberry device through bluetooth and my laptop is currently connected to the internet.
I have been trying to use my wife's BB to connect to the internet using my laptop's bluetooth connection. But I could not get it to work. Before posting here, I have been searching everywhere on the web for a guide but I could not seems to find one. Could anyone guide me on how to share my laptop internet connection so that my BB could access the web using the same connection as my laptop? If bluetooth and WiFi doesn't work is there any other way? Using USB perhaps? In short: Laptop internet Connection > Share using ? and how? > BB's can browse the web without additional data plan.
The problem is that when I create my wifi hotspot for connecting my computer to, with network will be created but no internet is available over the connection. I've tried to connect multiple devices to my phones hotspot and none of them are able to access the internet.
I just got the Tango update. However, still no Internet sharing.
My Phone is a Lumia 800. My provider here in Austria is A1. However, I should emphasize that the phone is not carrier branded and that my HTC Trophy that is indeed simlocked to A1 did get Internet sharing back when Mango became available.
I just picked up the new Lumia 920 from the Microsoft store in Canada. The phone was locked to Rogers and I was required to unlock in order to use it with Telus. I entered all the required APN settings to use Telus data but I still cannot get Internet Sharing to work. I'm having the same issue with MMS as well.
How can I get these features to work? This is a game changer and it's making regret switching to Windows Phone...
Truthfully I dont know if it's Nokia to blame or Rogers or Microsoft but this Internet Sharing and MMS issue has created a really poor Windows Phone experinece for me. Someone really needs to step up to the plate and address this.
I am having Nokia Lumia 710 with Vodafone(India) 2G activated. I have updated my phone to latest firmware and OS and got hte Internet sharing option in my settings tab, But even then I am unable to share internet.
Others are able to connect to my network if I share but when they try to browse internet, none of the internet pages are opening. Then I have tried to share my internet to my laptop(Windows 7 OS). I was able to connect but I was unable to surf anything.
I turn on Internet sharing on the phone. I connect my MacBook Pro mid 2012 to the phone by WiFi. Now you normally have an Internet connection on your laptop through your phone.
In my case the WiFi connection from my laptop to the Lumia keeps disconnecting after just some tens of seconds. This has happened on 2 different Lumia 920 phones used on 2 different MacBook Pros and an iPad.
This is NOT carrier related. I have already gone through this with my carrier (Elisa).
When i try to use Internet Sharing, it says 'Connections not shared - There's no mobile data connection to share at the moment. Check Your mobile setttings and signal, and try again.' In my mobile, mobile internet is working in all the browsers and i was able to install all the apps using mobile internet. but still it throws an error mentioned above, when i try to use Internet Sharing.
I have a Lumia 900 in the US. It was only sold by ATT in the US. I however am not with ATT, I'm with Straight Talk, an MVNO. When I try to enable Internet Sharing on the phone it pops up a message saying I need to contact ATT. I have no business relationship with ATT and they cannot help me. I would like to remove this message so I can get Internet Sharing working on my phone. The phone is unlocked, but that didn't seem to make the message go away.
I've recently bought a Nokia 5800 xm and have been able to connect it to my home internet using the wlan wifi.
I can only use the wifi if i go to settings>connectivity>wlan. If i go straight to internet, it tries to connect to t-mobile internet. This also happens when trying to use applications such as bbc iplayer and the ovi store.
Is there a way of setting the wifi connection as the default connection? If not, is there a way of setting up my applications so they connect using wifi?
Internet sharing does not work. I've tried the spanish keyboard thing, it does nothing. I can tether using the same SIM on my iPhone 4. I've been tethering with it for 2 years. I have seen many other reports of this issue on the internet. How long until Nokia acknowledges it?
my Lumia 920 has problems with internet sharing. It will work for a couple of minutes. And then it will not work. It won't work again till I reset the phone. After a reset. It will only work for a couple of minutes. I called att support and they told me I probably have a bad phone and to bring it back. Does anyone else have issues with internet sharing? I tried some stuff I found on the internet to fix this. Downloaded the Spanish language keyboards. To no avail.
I've been using Lumia 710 since 3 months. Even though the initial experience was good now I'm facing a serious signal problem with the phone. We recently moved to a high-rise building where the signal is weak inside the rooms. If the phone looses the signal it doesn't pick-up the signal even though network is available. This is causing a serious a trouble to me as I don't receive or make calls during the period. I either need to switch-off and switch-on again or I need to turn-on and turn-off flight mode for the phone to pick up the signal. Sometime even though the signal shows 3/4 bars I won't be able to make/receive the calls. I'm also facing a issue with Internet sharing option. Even though devices are able to connect they are not able to use the internet/data from phone. I was using the same SIM with other phone of different make and it was working pretty fine. I rely a lot on internet sharing option and now I can't even swap my SIM with old phone as Lumia uses micro SIM.
Is there anyway to disable the auto switch off of the auto switch off feature of the Internet Sharing on the Lumia 710?The reason I ask, is that I want to set this up as my main Internet connection at home using the Three UK One Plan Unlimited Data plan with the phone linked via Internet Shaing to a range extender which all my family can then connect to but the Internet Sharing keeps switching off after a few minutes of inactivity.
So got the Tmobile 810. Have been using unlocked Nokia phones (Symbian) till now and use JoikuSpot to share internet on as needed basis. Not very often, but good to know it is there when needed.
Now when select Internet Sharing to ON, asks if want to activate that feature in my plan. Is there anyway to bypass this or to get another app to do this .. like JoikuSpot ?
I am having some problems connecting my 5800 with my computer via USB. I have the Ovi suite and Nokia PC suite installed on my computer. The computer is running windows 7.
I can establish a connection over Bluetooth, but when try to connect over the USB the phone just wont be found. Windows 7 installed the drivers for the phone, the USB connection says that the phone is in PC suite mode and I can access the phones memory though windows explorer. The only way Ovi or PC suite will recognise my phone is if I put it into mass storage mode, but when I do this they connect and then 5 seconds or so later the phone sets itself back to PC suite mode and the connection is lost.
The phone is less than a week old, all the software I am using is up to date and the cable is an official Nokia cable.Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have a Nokia 5800xm, I use ovi maps mostly off-line but every time I search or turn ovi maps on it keeps asking me for a connection?can someone please help me, its very annoying
Ok I know how to do Internet Sharing to create a mini network from my MBP osx 10.6 that my iPhone 4 can use, but only when my MBP is connected to the internet via ethernet.
How can I do this when my MBP is connected wirelessly?
Why don't I connect from iPhone to the same wireless network that my MBP is connecting to, I hear you ask? Because I'm in a hostel and i've paid 10 bucks for unlimited 24hr wireless connection through a 'Global Gossip' internet card. This card seems to only allow one device to connect, and I've already logged on using my MBP.
I just bought a Nokia 5800 XM. However, there seems to be a problem with WLAN connectivity. The phone can successfully search for available networks, and when I choose "Connect" the WLAN icon appears at the top right corner (as if it successfully connected). But, when I try to use the web browser, it pops up connectivity options (as if it is not connected to any WLAN network even though the antenna icon is there). I can choose the same WLAN from the options, but then it says "connection already active" and fails. When I open connection manager it doesn't list any active connections. A strange situation! I've upgraded its software to the latest version but that didn't solve the problem. Any ideas why this may be happening and how to solve it?
up until 2 days ago i could use wifi on my nokia 5800. My phone no longer appears to be able to connect to wlan. When I go to settings, connectivity the wlan settings option is no longer there. I dont understand what has happened to make this option disapear. I am using software version 30.0.011.
My 5800s USB connection seems to be totally dead. I get no beep on the phone when I plug in the USB cable (tried on 3 different PCs) and I get no prompt asking what mode I want to use, i.e. PC Suite Mode, Mass Storage etc.The phone does not appear under "Devices and Printers" in Windows 7, nor does it appear under "Device Manager".So there is zero connectivity between the phone and the computer.
I've ordered a new micro USB cable from ebay to see if it helps, but the one I am using now doesn't look damaged in any way.
