Nokia :: 5800 Network Destinations: Internet Won't Open
Mar 4, 2010
i'm using a Nokia 5800 XM with the last firmware. i'm experiencing a problem, since nearly two months from now: when i go in Settings > Connection > Network Destinations and I click on "Internet", it won't open and it remains in the Network Destinations menu. I can open all the other items, but Internet won't open. I can only see that there are 17 destinations (I think most of them are Wi-Fi hotspots I used before).
Two weeks ago, I was travelling to another country and inserted a different SIM and installed it's settings, but when I came back and installed the orignal SIM, I lost some of the selection options Network Destination for Exchange and OVI Maps only...Previously I could see different options under Network Destinations such as 'Data Package' and access points which I had connected to previously. Now I only see 'Internet' and this has only affected the two applications mentioned above. I also have Hotmail & Gmail which give me the other options so I find it strange why has this happened to Exchange and OVI Maps only (even after updating the maps application).
This is preventing me from using my service provider's Data Package connection for these apps. I've contacted the provider and installed the default configuration settings recieved via SMS but that didn't help
I have updated my Nokia 5800 and ever since when I try to go on the internet via Orange it won't let me. I can't even use or set up Wi-fi. When I go into settings and connectivity there is no option to select or search for WLAN. When I try to add new access point it tells me that my network destination needs to be set first.Any ideas what I need to do please?
Having owned the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic for a couple of months or so, I must say that I really like the phone and it has great functionality. My main concerns/issues however are outlined below:
1. Facebook for Nokia app is slow, does not show all of the functions that m.facebook.com shows and isn't a homescreen widget (e.g. push notifications)
2. Communities app is even slower and again does not have the functionality of m.facebook.com and doesn't show notifications at all!
3. The Nokia Messaging app insists on connecting to 3G all the time, rather than a wifi connection when available. I've also experienced intermittent issues when trying to connect (sometimes it stays offline and even selecting 'Go online' doesn't wake the program up).
4. Default web browser keeps crashing and doesn't support larger websites (I experience intermittent crashes as well as memory issues). I do not receive such issues in Opera Mobile. I also dislike the defaulting to full screen mode all the time. If you turn full screen off, as soon as you navigate to a different page it goes back to full screen again, therefore increasing the activity on the phone and it takes longer to load the page before you can scroll or click another link.
I think I've covered all of my main concerns but in essence this device really needs better app support and social networking integration.I would be grateful if I could be given an update on if/when we can expect to receive such support. If anyone else agrees, please indicate below along with any additional feature requests relating to this topic.
I am having problems with gprs in my e71x. It used to work fine earlier but now when on using the web browser it just shows wifi under the internet destinations.I have gprs configured as an accesspoint inside internet destination and it worked great earlier but now for some reason it is no more visible to any apps.I tried restoring the phone to factory settings, reformatted it and even reflashed the 3.78 firmware but couldn't fix the problem.
I think the way I want to use Messaging on my E72 is pretty straight forward: I have one Ovi mail account that I want my phone to check once every hour. When I'm at home I want the phone to use my wifi hotspot, and when away from home to use the cell network. This seems like a reasonably low demand request.
The problem is that every time it want to connect to the server it pops up the destinations request window in which I am required to "Select connection" with the options "Search for WLAN" and "Internet". The "Internet" choice (which is set up according to my prioritised list of access points) is set as the default, but it still brings up the pop-up window in which I have to
choose between "Search for WLAN" and "Internet".
The net result of this is that every hour when the phone is supposed to check for mail it gets as far as the destinations pop-up window where I have to choose between "Search for WLAN" and "Internet". If I do not happen to see that it is requesting this and physically choose the "Internet" connection, it never connects and I never receive notification of new mail.
I upgraedd to the latest S60 version (v51) on 14th Aug 2010. Ever since them am unable to open the IM provided by Nokia. It doesnt throw any error. It just blinks once i try to open it.
I lost network coverage signal 3 days back, the sim well working in other mobile. I did soft/hard reset etc but no success. Upaded latest software even. Went to Nokia Care centre, they were also not able to repair it.
I logged on to the work wifi with my 5800 some time ago.Ever since I've had the phone I've struggled to get the Nokia browser to automatically connect to the Orange Internet (3G) access point.Instead it always prompts"Select Connection" and I have the options "Search for WLAN", "Internet" or "Uncategorised".Internet always used to be "Orange Internet" but now the default is "Internet - <my work> wifi".
This would be fine if I only used the phone for internet at work, but obviously I do not.Can anyone tell me how to put it back to having "Orange Internet" as the default, and ideally connecting automatically without the prompt.I've found under settings>general>accesspoint you can set it to either "Always ask" "Internet" or Uncategorised" but as "Internet" is currently set as my work wifi, this isn't an option.
I have a network problem with my nokia 5800 XM , i get no signal at all ..i go to settings - connection - network , and tried to choose network manualy (instead automaticly) but it cant, there is always the same message - no access..i bought this cellphone 6 months ago and i like it very much , so i want to continiue with using it..
I recently bought a second-hand 5800 XM with product code 0574326 and decoded to RM-356 MENA_D BLUE. I have the latest software 50.0.005 but the problem is I can't connect on UMTS network. I use the phone in Romania and RM-356 I think it should work here. Can anybody give me some advices ?
I have a Nokia 5800, just updated firmware to 40 and map to the free v3.04. I don't have a data plan so a free GPS feature is a plus for me. I played around with it and finally got it to work. However, I checked my data usage just to be sure that I was offline. The bill showed that my phone was constantly checking with AT&T network during this time. The data usage was between 6k to 8k every few minutes when GPS was active. Does free GPS and map include turn by turn navigation? Is that what the phone was doing, getting turn by turn instruction from the network?
when i go for Settings>Connectivity options and then exit from everything, my mobile keeps showing that Settings are still open (small circle over the icon). when i try to inside settings again, the screen goes blank or returns to normal menu.
I recently developed a problem with my 5800. I can't read new texts. I can see them in the preview, but when I click on them to open the full text message, nothing happens. My text messages are set up to be saved to my sd card. In addition to this problem, I can't read my emails either, only the preview. I have done a hard reset, and the problem is still present.
Hopefully someone can help me here. I have just received a brand new nokia 5800 chrome edition from T-Mobile. From what I can tell I think it's running version 31.0.101 firmware. One of the 1st apps I want to install is the BBC iplayer one. I browsed to www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer on the phone which prompted me to download the software. Downloaded and installed fine.
Now when I go to open the app it pops up with "Allow connection to network" message. I click ok it instantly connects via T-Mobile internet. As the iplayer only allows steaming via wifi (for t-mobile anyway) obviously this connection method is no good.
I have ready that RealPlayer basically controls the back-end of iplayer so I have turned the default connection in their to my wifi connection. Still does exactly the same thing (tries to connect via T-Mobile). I have also put the wifi as the deafult connection in settings>connectivity>destinations and it Still automatically tries to connect to T-Mobile internet with no other options.
I've unistalled and re-installed the app many times. I've also moved my WAP connections to their own seperate folder and just left the wifi as the main option, but still it tries to automatically connect using the T-Mobile WAP.
I've also tried putting the phone in offline mode and then opening the app but it just says connection unavailable in offline mode in an endless loop that is impossible to stop without turning the phone off.
This is really frustrating. All in all it seems like a great little phone, just a shame I'm having such trouble with the 1st app I decide to put on it!
If anyone can offer any help I would be most grateful.
I have Nokia 5800 since 1 year. It was working fine and battery life time was 2 to 3 days. Before 3 days, I was outside when my phone switched off due to battery run out. After 5 hours arrived my home and plugged in the charger and switched on the phone immediately.I was surprised when I found that the time is 5 hours back, it should be correct in new phones.Any way, since that time when I am trying to call any number, I am getting connection error and No network coverage alarms although I have a strong signal bar and 3G is persists.I had to restart my phone and I could make a call until it stopped again. Also I noticed that the battery is running out after 6 hours only.I tried many things until I solved the connection problem by changing the network mode from Dual to GSM and it worked fine but still the battery life time is around only 6 hours.Actually, I don't know what the problem is. Is it a hardware or software problem? I read many topics that soft and hard reset has no use. I upgraded Firmware to V 30 .0.011 since 7 months without any problem. No I am trying to recalibrate the battery and adjust its pins hopefully it will work.
i have a nokia 5800 xpress music latest firmware (40) and everything, but latley when i get a normal SMS from someone (i know the person gotten messages from him before), it tells me Unable to open: message format not supported. however the message shows in the in-box (the first few words or so, after the senders name) and if i go to a previous text and then click the arrow (or the pound key) that takes me to the next text, it'll open fine.. it kinda **bleep** me off i tried restarting the phone didn't help
My Nokia 5800 can't establish connection with WPA-protected home Ad-Hoc network.
I created such network based on my laptop wireless adapter and configured a WPA2-encryption for it. Then I found this network available via Nokia 5800 wlan-menu and tried to connect - this caused an error "System failure: function is not supported". So that Nokia smartphones support only open and wep-encrypted Ad-Hoc networks. WPA/WPA2 is enabled only for infrastructure mode. (But my laptop wireless adapter only supports managed mode, ad-hoc and monitor mode, so I can use only ad-hoc mode to set up home access-point. And I am sure I should use only WPA encryption for it, because WEP is vulnerable)
Maybe I can edit some configuration file in my Nokia device to enable WPA-encryption for Ad-Hoc?
If Nokia can enable this function in later versions of firmware?
I also will be very grateful if you recommend some symbian-applications which can enlarge wlan-functionality in my phone.
My phone will connect to my WLAN at home for no apparent reason (as in I'm not using the any application which requires interweb) and when I get annoyed and disconnect from that because it is just EATING my battery it think "Jesus there's no internet connection" panics then connects via gprs or whatever. Now I turned off the email program because it is eating my battery constantly being connected and am having to charge it every night! But is there any way of making it so that it only connects when the program is open? Any thoughts?
My recently performed a hard reset on my phone after trying to get the new Ovi maps loaded onto my phone. After successfully getting everything to work I noticed that my internet connection to Orange always switches on, even after going to connection manager and disabling it. I have tried everything I know but am unable to stop the phone doing this. It really drains the battery. Any help to understand why this is happening and a solution to stop it would be greatly appreciated.
I have touch screen issue with my Nokia 5800 after installing new 51.0.006 version. After instaling new FW system screen frequently goes black and strats again after 7-10 seconds. Ussually it happens when accessing my TXT messages or writing. I also formated memory card and cleard memory of the phone and installed new FW again but problem remains. When problem occures my phone screen goes black and comes back quickly. Network signal is also lost in the process. Phone has't been dropped when issue occured nor badly used. On my old FW 30 everything was working fine and I did not have this issue?
when trying to access the Internet, any application, any type of access point: Error "connection not available". WLAN is connected but no browsing, no disconnects, WLAN disconnects just off the phone.
My 5800XM has stopped connecting to the internet. If I go to, say the Ovi Store, I get the frot page, but instead of going to the Store, it returns to the previous screen. The same happens with other websites, too. The phone usually asks how I wish to connect - WAP, wireless network and so on, but it is no longer doing so. I do hope I have just inadvertently changed a setting or something, as I have just got my phone back from being repaired, which took nearly 3 weeks.
I have a 5800. Occasionally, or rather frequently some times, I get a popup asking for access to internet. However, there is no mention as to what program is requiring the access. Is there any way of knowing what program (when there's none presumably running in the background) is doing this?
I have a problem to my phone. I'm just updated software and when I'm going to the internet, it shows an error- Connection not available. What I have to do?
I wonder if it's possible to share the existing internet connection on Nokia 5800 XM with the PC without internet connection? The setup is like this:
1. I have DSL Wi-Fi router in home
2. I have one computer which connects to DSL router using the USB Wi-Fi card - that's my primary internet computer
3. I use Nokia 5800 for wi-fi connection to router too
4. I have another PC which is audio DAW (digial audio workstation) and I don't want to dirt that one with any antivirus, antimalware software or any plug-ins required for using the internet.
Now, since there is a certain need to connect to internet with that DAW (mostly to utilize the web camera and make video calls without disturbing the rest of the family, since DAW is in the studio, a separate room), I wonder is it possible to use my Nokia 5800 in a way where I would just share it's internet connection with the DAW, so DAW would connect to internet with Nokia's connection? It isn't the same thing as using the smartphone as modem, it's an actual connection sharing, but I fail to find needed settings for such sharing on Nokia.I also wonder will the PC be at any risk at all since it would use internet connection of Symbian based system (the PC runs with WinXPSP2).
