Motorola Xoom :: Screen Was Dimming When Click View Attachment Button
Oct 21, 2011
When i was clicking on the View attachement button, or Play (for music file) the screen was dimming, but nothing was happening. Then i tried to open a video from gallery app - same thing. The screen is dimming, but nothing else is happening. Then i noticed the same thing from browser and figured that it happens everytime there should be a popup menu with programs to open the file menu it wasn't doing anything.
I got my Xoom primarily to access my database and bookmarked & annotated PDFs during client home visits and SS hearings without bringing a laptop. Of course, the Verizon salesperson said I could do all that. But, I could not find a PDF reader that retains bookmarks . My files are sometimes 400-600 or more pages long. I can't scroll through page by page to quickly find what I need using docs to go.
I set up remote desktop for Xoom (phonemypc) as an alternative. This works great(except for brief lags in response times) but I have to enlarge the view on my Xoom to read the remotely controlled monitor screen. I can't see a whole page at once because of this. If, though, I try to scroll in any of the remote desk top views, the Xoom screen moves. I don't want my Xoom screen to move. I want to move within the program on my remote desktop.
Will a bluetooth mouse enable me to use scroll bars without moving the Xoom screen? Or is there an app or method for stopping the Xoom screen from moving when I try to slide a scroll bar on my remote desktop screen? (trying to pull up the traditional right click menu on a scroll bar is a hit and miss experience and it takes multiple tries to get where I need to go in a document--it's too slow).
I'm sure this is a simple settings problem but i've been frustrated wih it for over a week and cannot find an answer anywhere. This is my second xoom - first one gmail links are clickable no problem. With the new one when i click on an embedded link in gmail, the screen dims and i go nowhere.
I used the XOOM stock browser, and went to a web site that provides a visitor to download a file from it's web page by clicking on the file's label. By doing so, there is an arrow downloading shown on my XOOM, but it failed afterward. I let it ran for a while and then it failed. I am not be able to download anything from any web sites.
Is there any way to get correct this problem? The work around that I did was to downloading the file to my PC (using Chrome browser), and then moved it to XOOM.
I cannot receive any MMS messages when I am roaming. I received a text with a picture attachment and I could not download the attachment because it came up with an error that said I had no data connectivity. The 3g data symbol was up and blue in color and worked because I was able to text via data roaming.I can send and receive calls and text messages while roaming, just could not get the MMS picture. I had everything checked correctly, data roam and call roam were both checked. The only way I could get it was to get to an area where I had sprint service to download. Is this a known problem? Where I work deep in the building I am usually roaming.
Up until yesterday, I was able to click on a link in my email and open the browswer with that link. All of a sudden, the screen dims, (with like a blueish tint) but does nothing.I have tried clearing the cache, a hard reset (volume up and on button) and even used the reset to default in the browser settings. This is both for the stock browser and Dolphin Browser HD.
In email application how do I download pdf attachment from my inbox to save and view? I installed pdf viewer for this phone but I need to manually open saved pdf file. How to save it, there seems to be no option for that? I keep finger on attachment but does not appear any menu to save, under options there also no save. And if I try open directly it I get error file type not supported. What to do?
I got the X10 one week ago from AT&T. I was amazed that I couldn't install software other than from the Android Market; what the deal? Nevertheless, I used the Android Sideload Wonder Machine (after many pain staking days of trying to load the JDK & SDK) I finally loaded my surveillance system software and it works. However, the surveillance system also sends emails to my Google account whenever it sense motion in the room. When I access the email, the JPG file is attached, but I can't view it inline. I can only download it to view the picture. Given the email and the JPG attachment are related to security issues, I need a fast way of viewing the JPG file without having to download or use the browser. Both are time consuming efforts
I like to download instructional videos (how-tos) and then burn them to CD or DVD for future use. I bought a Xoom so I could download at a faster speed (4G) but now can't figure how to save them and transfer them to my PC for burning. I have tethered Xoom to PC but can't seem to find any files saved that look like the video I watched on Xoom .
Has anyone else noticed that you can't zoom in on sattalite view as close as you used to be able to..Used to I could see my car in my driveway. Not anymore, checked all my settings and see no option to get as close a view as in the past..
I recently got new Xoom tablet from my senior and I connected it to my Win 7 - 32 bit laptop via a USB cable and it says the device drivers are not installed.I have tried:
1) Enabling USB debugging mode
2) Downloading motohelp drivers from your site the latest one.
3) Switch my tablet on and off and on
4) Restart my machine couple of times.
5) Tried on all the available USB slots on my laptop.
6) Updating drivers via Device Manager ->Update driver.
7) Followed all other solutions which are mentioned on forums and internet. It worked on my Win 7 64 bit in my office but not even getting detected on my IBM T461 Win 7 32 bit laptop.I used USB cable ofmy HTC desire smart phone both times.
ive triedflipping the screen when opening attachments in gmail with no luck. the same email sent to my yahoo opened and i could view....im also having problems viewing videos in facebook and on you tube..what can i do?
got the 3.2 update for my 3g Xoom. And now when using my exchange account I can no longer view attachments from email. I have to save the file to the device and view with the aid of a file reader. It worked flawlessly before but now seem broken.
An earlier post implied that 3.1 has a setting for uastring, and that about:debug is no longer needed.
I haven't been able to locate any uastring settings in browser settings or system configuration.
uastring still works, but has to be reapplied if the browser is closed, same as 3.0.1. A post elsewhere had indicated that the settings would persist until reboot.
When I open a pdf from a web page link I get a force close in the stock browser.I was able to open pdfs in Dolphin with a plug in but prefer the stock browser.
Is there anyway to make this a permanent setting? If i close out the browser i have to go back into debug settings and do it all over again. Will this be addressed in the next software update whenever that will be (sd card?).
Is there any way to prevent the screen from automatically dimming ? When checking email or waiting for a connection , I have to keep pressing the button to keep the screen active. I have the latest available update installed
Since I downloaded 5.0.2, the photos I set as lock screen wallpapers become dim. Basically, my lock screen shows the time clearly, but the wallpaper is dark. I tried boosting the brightness of the photo, but it looks bad...
Is there any way to stop my phone from dimming all the time. If I am gaming or on the phone a while it goes from 100% brightness to like 70. I do not use auto brightness as I do not like it. I like the screen to be as bright as can be.
when I turn on the screen on my g3 after a few seconds the screen dims ever so slightly and is noticeable , the percentage on the brightness scale stays at the 75% tho , its set to 75% all the time , not using auto brightness , unrooted using Nova launcher .
I know there are other threads on this topic, especially regarding the Storm series of phones, but not anything from this year. So what's the update with this issue? It used to only rear its ugly head in landscape mode on my phone; now it auto dims (yes, with auto dimming turned off in my options) regardless of screen position or time of day outside. It's so bad now that it will auto dim and then brighten again like twice a minute. Really annoying when I'm web browsing or watching a video.
For the past few days my screen hasn't been dimming itself. When locked, the screen stays continuously lit with the "screen is locked" message. StormSlider doesn't activate. Has anyone else had this problem?
My eyes are kind of damaged and I need to know if the Nexus 6P phone screen uses PWM for backlight dimming. Majority of people never notice it but I'd say 5% of people have issues caused by it (headache, migraines, seizures, etc.) Kind of like the CRT flicker but in modern LED backlit devices.
To test use a high end camera/DSLR with adjustable shutter speed and look for black lines on the phone screen when adjusting the camera's shutter speed.
on mine XOOM /WI-FI tab, it seems that i need to first push the on button then let go an push an hold again for a sec then it will power on? Is this the normal way to turn on from a total power off state? As in sleep mode only need to be pushed 1x and screen comes awake. There actualy is nothing of any extent on the power button in the emanual that I could see for normal power up.Also as iv seen some comments elsewhere on the Sound Output quality, well on a set of earbuds its good quality sound, on the built in speakers ..well for a device of this small size one should expect decent sound but cant expect very much as to high end sound really it is only tiny sound. But ..the HDMI out sound is very poor quality , on a TV in or AVAmp in the same..very flat, dulll, boxee sound-tested using same music vidaudio file as from laptop, or other small device. and resulting sound is ..well crap... just only real neg comment otherwise.
