Motorola Xoom :: Permanently Setting Desktop Web View In Debug?
Apr 21, 2011
Is there anyway to make this a permanent setting? If i close out the browser i have to go back into debug settings and do it all over again. Will this be addressed in the next software update whenever that will be (sd card?).
An earlier post implied that 3.1 has a setting for uastring, and that about:debug is no longer needed.
I haven't been able to locate any uastring settings in browser settings or system configuration.
uastring still works, but has to be reapplied if the browser is closed, same as 3.0.1. A post elsewhere had indicated that the settings would persist until reboot.
I got my Xoom primarily to access my database and bookmarked & annotated PDFs during client home visits and SS hearings without bringing a laptop. Of course, the Verizon salesperson said I could do all that. But, I could not find a PDF reader that retains bookmarks . My files are sometimes 400-600 or more pages long. I can't scroll through page by page to quickly find what I need using docs to go.
I set up remote desktop for Xoom (phonemypc) as an alternative. This works great(except for brief lags in response times) but I have to enlarge the view on my Xoom to read the remotely controlled monitor screen. I can't see a whole page at once because of this. If, though, I try to scroll in any of the remote desk top views, the Xoom screen moves. I don't want my Xoom screen to move. I want to move within the program on my remote desktop.
Will a bluetooth mouse enable me to use scroll bars without moving the Xoom screen? Or is there an app or method for stopping the Xoom screen from moving when I try to slide a scroll bar on my remote desktop screen? (trying to pull up the traditional right click menu on a scroll bar is a hit and miss experience and it takes multiple tries to get where I need to go in a document--it's too slow).
Is there anyone else who prefers some sites in full desktop view ie. ESPN? The stock browser User Agent is still accessible through about:debug but most sites are still redirected to a mobile version even when "Desktop" is selected. my favorite browser wont deliver a non-mobile view unless you select the UA as I-Pad. That can't be good. Anyway....all was well on my OG Droid and now I'm about to give up on this dilemma and just install DolphinHD or something.
I like to download instructional videos (how-tos) and then burn them to CD or DVD for future use. I bought a Xoom so I could download at a faster speed (4G) but now can't figure how to save them and transfer them to my PC for burning. I have tethered Xoom to PC but can't seem to find any files saved that look like the video I watched on Xoom .
Has anyone else noticed that you can't zoom in on sattalite view as close as you used to be able to..Used to I could see my car in my driveway. Not anymore, checked all my settings and see no option to get as close a view as in the past..
For those of you who want to view websites in desktop mode on your mobile I would first recommend you just use Dolphin browser. They have an easy toggle add on that you can go back and forth between mobile and desktop modes very quickly. If you must have the stock Android browser I have a trick for you too. Open up stock browser, in the url type "about:debug" Nothing will appear to happen. Now press menu>More>Settings>(in debug area) UAString>Desktop. You may have to refresh the Page for the new settings to take effect. Now you are surfing in desktop mode!
I have set up a gmail account and two eclipse accounts seperately, but I cannot setup my main eclipse acount.the incoming settings are accepted but my smtp setting are not accepted, my ISP confirms all the settings are correct and I have been using them for years, they also work on my android phones.
I recently got new Xoom tablet from my senior and I connected it to my Win 7 - 32 bit laptop via a USB cable and it says the device drivers are not installed.I have tried:
1) Enabling USB debugging mode
2) Downloading motohelp drivers from your site the latest one.
3) Switch my tablet on and off and on
4) Restart my machine couple of times.
5) Tried on all the available USB slots on my laptop.
6) Updating drivers via Device Manager ->Update driver.
7) Followed all other solutions which are mentioned on forums and internet. It worked on my Win 7 64 bit in my office but not even getting detected on my IBM T461 Win 7 32 bit laptop.I used USB cable ofmy HTC desire smart phone both times.
ive triedflipping the screen when opening attachments in gmail with no luck. the same email sent to my yahoo opened and i could view....im also having problems viewing videos in facebook and on you tube..what can i do?
got the 3.2 update for my 3g Xoom. And now when using my exchange account I can no longer view attachments from email. I have to save the file to the device and view with the aid of a file reader. It worked flawlessly before but now seem broken.
I'd like to be able to mirror my xoom screen on a desktop monitor for small group presentations at job sites. I've viewed some of the threads on hdmi to vga, hdmi to dvi and hdmi to hdmi, but am a little confused as to which is easiest. It looks like if you go with hdmi to vga you'll need some type of converter, not just a cable? If it was just a cable that would be perfect.
I recently got a lapdock for my Atrix. After using firefox for 10+ minutes the webtop freezes: the cursor is non-responsive and no response from key presses either. The frozen cursor occurs for both the touchpad and when a mouse is connected. How should I debug this problem? I am on the stock 4.5.141 build and rooted (to install Swype). No other root related changes.I am using the incipio feather case. When I undock the frozen webtop the phone is working fine. I can dock again to get a working webtop...not an ideal solution though.
Is there a way to set up email to sync over wifi only? The option is available on my phone which I have unlimited data on, it would only make sense for Motorola to put it on a tablet that has a limited data plan.
I dimmed my Xoom while reading a book in the Nook app. Ever since then, it wants to stay dim. I have repeatdly gone into the settings menu and rechecked 'auto' but it keeps reverting back.
When I open a pdf from a web page link I get a force close in the stock browser.I was able to open pdfs in Dolphin with a plug in but prefer the stock browser.
I would like to have my desktop view permanently on when I'm on the internet, it's so frustrating having to constantly turn it on manually and for no reason whatever the pages I save with a desktop view to home screen, when I access it from home screen it has switched to mobile version by itself and I have to switch it back to desktop.
I keep getting the browser just crashing to desktop? cleared cache etc but it just crashes and also slows down when using the xoom for more than a few hours.
Picking it up this morning I tried entering my security PIN only to find the numbers weren't registering. The problem? My finger holding the device - while not touching the screen area - was too close and was activating multitouch. Moving my finger out of the way solved the problem though my grip slips away and the device starts to fall out of my hands.
I can't be the only one that finds this tablet hard to hold. And the best part is, there's an easy remedy to the situation: give us the option to change the active screen area (e.g. shrink it by a certain number of pixels in order to give us more room to hold it). Even without changing anything else in Honeycomb this is still doable, yet I fear it will never become a reality.
Am I the only one who wants to see them let us shrink the touchable area of the screen so we can hold it better?
When i was clicking on the View attachement button, or Play (for music file) the screen was dimming, but nothing was happening. Then i tried to open a video from gallery app - same thing. The screen is dimming, but nothing else is happening. Then i noticed the same thing from browser and figured that it happens everytime there should be a popup menu with programs to open the file menu it wasn't doing anything.
Ok after some trial and error i am now able to view content on the bbc iplayer in its correct format but its a bit fidly, here is what you need to do:Firstly in your stock browser type about:debug to enable enhanced menu's. Navigate to settings, debug and UAString and change this to iPad BEFORE launching bbc.Now launch BBC/iPlayer, it will come uo slightly formatted for the ipad screen but looks tons better than the mobile version. You will not be able to play videos fro here... go back into settings, debug and change UACString to Desktop then refresh the screen and voila you have the desktop version of BBC iPlayer. My guess is the initial brower check that the bbc do incorectly identifies the device when in desktop mode and tne android page/mobile is just pants. Too many companies in bed with Apple which is why they sucessfully dominate the tablet market.
With the recent Honeycomb updates to allow for USB hubs, Keyboards, Mice, gamepads, etc, has any of them been updated in order to take advantage of this. And even more has anyone who uses any of these seen if they can handle running your games properly from a remote location? I ask because I think it would be fun to be able to run some of my Steam games over a buddy's house on my Xoom without having to pack up my laptop but I am not sure if the programs can keep up. I know that there is software capable of doing such (Onlive [I realize this is a subscription service and different context]) but was wondering if we can accomplish this on our own yet via one of the many programs in the Market.
I have the first South Division of Google Chrome on my phone for tomorrow I was wondering in chrome Flags is there any way to default home page to the desktop version vs the the mobile version?
Home page and view got changed on my Galaxy S5. I have tried changing between desktop and mobile view. Got an update from Att. Did this have anything to do with it?
How exactly do I get this calendar from my BB and onto a Desktop or into a printer? I have four active calendars, two personal email accounts, a Enterprise account (work) and then the BBM Group account. The BBM Group calendar is the only one that I cannot document in some form other than viewing it on the phone.
