Motorola Xoom :: Music And Photo Files On SD Card Corrupt After ICS Update?
Feb 25, 2012
I have music and photo files stored on an SD card. I could play the music and view photos OK before ICS update. After ICS, the music files on the SD card didn't play. If I copied them to the internal memory, they worked. Gallery photos on SD card had multiple copies and would not swipe from one to the next. When viewed with XOOM attached to PC, there were multiple copies of everything. but only one copy of each if viewed in file manager, or by plugging SD card directly into PC. I found on other forums that I can clear the media storage and the files will play properly. However, after I restart once or twice the files are corrupted again. Is there a permanent fix for this problem? Is Google/Motorola aware of this? Is a permanent fix planned for a future update?
I currently missing photo and music, not really missing them, If I open ES File Explorer and open .sdcard/DCIM/Camera all my photo are there. They just don't show up in Gallery. I can open them from ES File Explorer fine. Same with Music, I can open /sdcard/Music and all my music is there but when I open the Music App, it reports"You don't have any music in your library." I can open any song from the file explorer. Also I can no longer see any files in storage when I connect my Xoom via USB to my Win7 pc, the internal storage shows up but is empty.
in addition to using the built in reader, I downloaded the free adobe viewer from the marketplace. neither of them will open up some pdf files- other pdf files open fine- I searched the database for pdf corrupt and pdf won't open, but did not find anything?
I shoot in the RAW format on a Canon DSLR. When I tried transferring to the XOOM from the camera with the Camera Connection Kit cable using the PTP protocol, only JPG's would appear available for importing in the Gallery app. Is this a limitation of Gallery and I just need to find another app for the RAW formatted files to transfer and display? Any way to transfer and view RAW (.cr2) photo files?
I recently have had trouble transferring music to my N97. I keep getting message the the folder was corrupt. I eventually removed all the music from my device though there are still some files there and I can not see them using File Management. Another thing that is occurring is that every time I go the my Music Player is says USB connection active and is has been hours doing this. In fact is locks up and I have to remove the battery and restart again. When I go back to music the does the same thing again and for hours. No music is being transferred as I have checked.
I was trying to back up my memory card (5800XM) via Windows XP - copying/pasting - and several corrupt files were thrown up.e.g "22%.dat" in the Private....CacheE folder, a file for Opera Mini DS folder Even when I deleted 22%.dat from the phone, it was miraculously resurrected as soon as I tried to copy over again. Do I have to reformat the card & reinstall Ovi Maps, music / image files, Apps again ?
I put a couple of albums on a Mirco SD card and inserted it into my Xoom. The card shows up under /mnt/external1The albums are there and I can select each song individually and play them using the default "Music" player, RockPlayer, or Winamp. What I can't figure out is how to get any of those Media Players to read from the SD Card automatically?
The latest version of Astro File Manager seems to be able to delete files from the external SD card. I haven't had time to play with it fully-can anybody else confirm?
I've noticed on different websites and forums that people are having problem attaching album covers to albums they've added to their native Xoom music player. In order to ensure all your music has the appropriate albums attached, I would suggest using Windows Media Player. The steps are as follows.
Step 1. Add music to the "Library" with the list of songs from your artist of choice.
Step 2. Then browse to the album that is missing art.
Step 3. Using either Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer, in another window, find a picture that you want to use for album art (the picture can be in a file on your computer or on a webpage), right-click the picture, and then click Copy.
Step 4. In your library, right-click the album art box, and then click Paste Album Art.
A copy of the picture is embedded into each of the songs from that album. The copy of the picture is automatically scaled to the appropriate size and converted to the JPEG format before it is embedded in the file. The original picture file is not modified.
Step 5. Drag files from your library to the "Sync" tab, then sync songs to your Xoom. Now when you check your Xoom you should have all the album artwork attached to your albums.
I have a problem with the sd card on my Xoom wifi with Android 4.0.4. I have my music collection on an sd card which is loaded in my Xoom. Initially the music plays fine in the Google Play Music App, but after using the tablet for a day or two the music will no longer play. I get a message that the music cannot be played. This message then appears when attempting to play any music on the sd card.
I can temporarily fix the problem by erasing the Media Storage and Google Play Music data or resetting the tablet as suggested by gmanapps, but the problem repeats itself. I also tried syncing/not syncing with Google Music, disabling the Google Play Music app and using an alternate player, and formatting the sd card.
In general I have been happy with my Xoom, but this issue really concerns me. Does this point to a larger problem of stability in the Android file structure?
I received my 3.1 update this morning and now I can no longer play the three video files that reside on my Xoom. I created them with Freemake Video Converter. I can, however, play a video that I recorded with the built-in application (recorded after the update).
Why do I have "unknown album" files in My Library but not when I view them on my PC? I also have missing albums. The items in the "unknown album" are viewable on my PC.
I have a XOOM WiFi I bought from Staples on launch day. A couple of days ago the screen started turning blue. If the device sits unused (such as overnight) the next morning it is fine for about a minute or two. Then it turns blue again. The blue corruption moves. If I try to scroll up on a list that is already scrolled as far as it can go a blue "halo" appears at the bottom of the screen for as long as I hold my finger on the screen. It disappears after a few seconds. I've already tried a soft reset. I haven't tried a factory wipe yet as I was hoping to avoid that.
I just got the Motorola Photon Q and so far I really like it. It is different navigating than my previous phone, though. I am currently using my old 2 gb sd card and want to get a 16 gb card, but can't figure out how to transfer my music files that I downloaded from Amazon MP3 cloud to my phone. It appears they are stored on internal storage, which I suppose is ok for now, but when I get a new card I want to store them on my larger 16 gb card. I can access them by going to settings, storage, audio, then complete action using files, device storage, and then they are listed as amazonmp3.
I need a simple clarification that I can't find discussed plainly in any of the SD threads. As I understand it, an SD card is completely unusable at this time. For example, files can't be transferred there through a program such as Quick Office. Is this correct?
I know that in the camera there is a setting to save your pictures and videos to either the internal memory or the SD card, how can you save other things to the card instead of the phone or is there even a way to do so? like pictures you save from texts, Zedge, and music files etc...
I purchased a card from Amazon last week. I haen't received update yet. The card came with a micro and SD adapter included. Do I need the micro adapter to install the small micro memory card? How do I install the card? Do I have to format it on my PC before installing on Xoom?
this question is for the motorola geniuses here. I have 3.2 installed and can confirm that there is native SD card usage however I can not figure out how to take pictures and have them save directly to the SD card. They still get saved in internal memory. How do we change that I don't see a setting anywhere unless I am blind.
This has only happened twice in the past 6 months, most recently today. I try to unlock my phone and the backlight will come on but the screen is black. Waited about 5 minutes and still the same. Power button will not shut it down. Pulled the battery and waited a few minutes and started it. Boots fine but I get a message that the SD card is corrupt and everything is gone. Had to mount and reformat. No new app's and I don't use any other launchers or lock screens so it is completely stock.
I've had my Curve 8900 for a long time now and I've never had this problem until now. I realized yesterday that when I deleted hundreds of photos from my SD card, there were 'empty' files still sitting in my photo album on my bb.. (icon is of a piece of paper with a drawing of mountains and a sun, with a green arrow pointing to the left) Sorry, this is my first post so I can't post a photo
When I look in my SD card on my computer, all the files I deleted are gone.So I tried formatting my SD card to completely erase everything and start over. I formatted it on both my computer and my blackberry. But the weird files are still sitting in my photo album!Does anyone know how I can get rid of them?
If I drag and drop music files to the Music folder in the phone storage they show up in the music player app fine.
However, files do not show in the app when I add them to the SD Card.
The SD card has been formatted in the phone. I'm adding files to this folder directory - Card/Android/data/com.google.android.music/files. Is this correct?
So I had music on my xoom but accidently deleted it. I tried going in my computer files to copy and paste songs from my itunes into my folder on xoom called music but says wrong format. I don't know what to do.
I have a decent quality (Samsung) 64gb Micro SD Card for my G3. Every time I put all of my music onto it then put it in my phone, it wipes all my music files off straight away. I checked if they were hidden by putting my SD Card back into the computer but they are actually getting deleted. I have tried some basic things (formatting the card, power on and off, etc) but I'm not having much luck.
Running ICS on Xoom Wifi. When creating a photo gallery widget, and selecting a single image, then go to crop, it seems to freeze the tablet on Saving Picture... prompt. Touching the controls icons won't do anything, just blank screen.I have to wait for a few, then the launcher freeze popup saying wait/report/stop. When creating photo gallery widget from album or shuffle, it works. It just doesn't work with single image. I think this is a bug, repeatable with any images.if I have space left, it says 28.11 GB free.
My phone said "memory full, delete some data",Ever since, all my tracks bar 3 are not showing on the memory card, neither are about 90% of my sound, image and video files.
Basically, my memory card is only showing a very small number of files and the rest I cannot access. Phone is N73 that caused this. Memory card is Mini SD.Ive used data cable and is still the case on the laptop, also tried memory card reader. Still exactly the same only showing small number of actual files. I can see the folder names however it says empty. But in properties it still recognizes the fact that that 1.9GB is used of 2.0GB. However I can only access about 100MB of those files.
I bought the device few days ago and on very same day updated to Android ver. 3.2. I use internet over my home Wifi and have a Netgear - WGR614 router. The browsing speed is very very slow and most sites dont open. The signal strength shown in xoom is - (-105 dBm 3 asu).Is this a issue with Android 3.2 update or my home wifi is weak? Would i be able to reset the tab to the original version?
I would like to think that I am somewhat OK with using the XOOM based on the fact that I have an original DROID and have been dealing with the ANDROID OS for some time now. I have yet to load any files on the XOOM itself, but I was wondering how I go about accessing files once they are put on the XOOM. I have uploaded pictures and placed those in the picture folder but they are easy to find due to the gallery. When plugged into my laptop I can see all of the different folders, but I cannot figure out how to get to them when not plugged into the laptop. You can do a long touch on the DROID homescreen and it will give you the options of seeing, shortcuts, widgets, folders and wallpapers. This is how I would access files with the DROID. It does not work the same for the XOOM.
