Motorola Xoom :: Camera Connection Kit - Importing RAW Photo Files?
May 19, 2011
I shoot in the RAW format on a Canon DSLR. When I tried transferring to the XOOM from the camera with the Camera Connection Kit cable using the PTP protocol, only JPG's would appear available for importing in the Gallery app. Is this a limitation of Gallery and I just need to find another app for the RAW formatted files to transfer and display? Any way to transfer and view RAW (.cr2) photo files?
Usually, I have no problems making the USB connection to my Xoom work. I've been using it for nearly a year with no problems. Today, I noticed that when I connect my USB cable, I can see both the Internal Storage and SD Card devices. However, when I click on the SD Card, I don't see any files. I can see them just fine if I use a file manager on the Xoom so I know that they're there. I just can't see them with my Win7 box. It does know how much space on the SD Card is used/available so it's at least getting some information.
I installed the Motorola drivers to see if that would help but it didn't. I've also rebooted both devices and tried a different USB port on my PC.
I currently missing photo and music, not really missing them, If I open ES File Explorer and open .sdcard/DCIM/Camera all my photo are there. They just don't show up in Gallery. I can open them from ES File Explorer fine. Same with Music, I can open /sdcard/Music and all my music is there but when I open the Music App, it reports"You don't have any music in your library." I can open any song from the file explorer. Also I can no longer see any files in storage when I connect my Xoom via USB to my Win7 pc, the internal storage shows up but is empty.
I have music and photo files stored on an SD card. I could play the music and view photos OK before ICS update. After ICS, the music files on the SD card didn't play. If I copied them to the internal memory, they worked. Gallery photos on SD card had multiple copies and would not swipe from one to the next. When viewed with XOOM attached to PC, there were multiple copies of everything. but only one copy of each if viewed in file manager, or by plugging SD card directly into PC. I found on other forums that I can clear the media storage and the files will play properly. However, after I restart once or twice the files are corrupted again. Is there a permanent fix for this problem? Is Google/Motorola aware of this? Is a permanent fix planned for a future update?
I just bought the new camera connection kit for my 32gb 4G Xoom. I have a Samsung WB210, but can't seem to get it to download photos to the Xoom. Is that not possible? Is it only used to put photos on the Xoom from a computer?
When I connect any camera using a Motorola camera connect cable nothing comes up on my screen. On USB Host Connect my camera make and mode show up under usb (as does a storage stick when I try one) but under information I get a message which says S3C USB Host driver NOT found.
how to read in raw image files direct from my dslr. I have an OTG cable that is connected to the micro-usb. If i set the camera to jpeg it will launch the gallery and allow me to import these so i know the cables work, the images can be imported and stored on the xoom. Have also read variuos things that say direct raw import are not possible but am not sure if this is now out of date. I also know rawdroid works ok once i can get the files on the xoom so have my raw viewer sorted. Now, if i try and use file manager and check at the /mnt directory i can't see a way to find the sd card in the camera to try and copy them over. This was one of the key things i wanted to get working on this when i bought it.
I recently got my Xoom and I picked up the Motorola camera connecter cable to go along with it, and I'm trying to import pictures from my Canon T2i using the USB cable connected to the camera connector cable. When I plug the cables in and turn the camera on, the Xoom recogonizes the camera, actually starts rendering 3 or 4 thumbnails of the pictures on the card in the camera, and then I get an error message ont he camera and eventually the Xoom no longer recogonizes the camera.I tried a little Kodak point and shoot camera and it worked fine with the Xoom. I then hooked the Canon to my Ipad using Apple's camera connection kit and it imported the pictures perfectly. The next thing I did was update the firmware in the Canon and then retried it with the same results. It starts the import and then the camera crashes.
I am trying to import a LMX file with 200 waypoints of a walk in Scotland which I wish to do.
Ignoring the fact that this may not result in a useful waypoint file, I have so far created the file in both GPX and KML formats and converted each to LMX format using GPSBabel and then stored the LMX file on the 5800.
Once saved on my 5800, I am able to load the LMX file and end up with 200 discrete POI's in my Favourites (which is not really what I want!) but more worringly, the points when viewed on OVI maps are placed in the Indian Ocean no matter which format I convert from.
If I can find out why the co-ords are duff and get a good output file I will then see if I can create the waypoint file I actually need,
Running ICS on Xoom Wifi. When creating a photo gallery widget, and selecting a single image, then go to crop, it seems to freeze the tablet on Saving Picture... prompt. Touching the controls icons won't do anything, just blank screen.I have to wait for a few, then the launcher freeze popup saying wait/report/stop. When creating photo gallery widget from album or shuffle, it works. It just doesn't work with single image. I think this is a bug, repeatable with any images.if I have space left, it says 28.11 GB free.
I would like to think that I am somewhat OK with using the XOOM based on the fact that I have an original DROID and have been dealing with the ANDROID OS for some time now. I have yet to load any files on the XOOM itself, but I was wondering how I go about accessing files once they are put on the XOOM. I have uploaded pictures and placed those in the picture folder but they are easy to find due to the gallery. When plugged into my laptop I can see all of the different folders, but I cannot figure out how to get to them when not plugged into the laptop. You can do a long touch on the DROID homescreen and it will give you the options of seeing, shortcuts, widgets, folders and wallpapers. This is how I would access files with the DROID. It does not work the same for the XOOM.
Xoom with Wifi and 3 G great , however.......I have installed the RockPlayerLite to play my .avi video's. Display is fine but the sound is just shaky noise.Other player same result.Video recording with sound made with onboard camera works fine.
Unfortunately my tablet is not recognized as an MTP device by my computer (I'm using Linux). So, I tried something else: I usually use an application named SwiFTP (an FTP server) on my Android devices. But I don't understand why, this app and all the others FTP apps I tried won't work on my Xoom 2ME. I suspect some kind of Motorola's internal firewall.
I use my xoom for job searches. If I find a job and go to web page to up load resume, upload fails. It states file for mat is incorrect. I have verified file format is correct, any suggestions for fix?Could it be the path for the file location?
with a lack of Internet connection on their 4G LTE XOOM. I purchased my XOOM in October and except for one time right after I got it, I've always been connected to a wifi someplace. Last week I found myself at probably one of the few McDonald's that had no wifi. I didn't think that was an issue but it turned out to be. I spoke with the people at Motorola who couldn't diagnosis my problem so I'm supposed to send the unit back to them. In the interim I thought (and spoke to Motorola about this as well) that as a means of troubleshooting I would take it to Verizon to see if perhaps I had a bad sim card. The manager was a complete idiot (I'm being VERY nice here) and told me that sim cards do not go bad! At issue is that when the unit goes back to Motorola it goes back devoid of anything including my sim card. I called Verizon directly and the feeling I got from them was that they really wanted to resolve my problem and probably not send my unit back to Motorola. The tech was very nice but she couldn't get any internet working on my XOOM either. She is sending me a new sim card which should be here tomorrow. Let's hope it's as easy a fix as that. I do have the 3.2.6 upgrade on my unit and except for it sometimes freezing at boot up the past week or so I haven't had any other issues with it.
this has been constantly happening to me on multiple sets of headphones. it appears the music player thinks that when the headphones are connected to the xoom that you must want to play music. last night i was watching Internet and all of a sudden a song in my music started playing when i went back to a prior video i was watching. many times prior to this i was listening to music in my mp3 app and music started playing from the music app.
i left my headphones connected all night with my xoom asleep not charging and just now i couldn't get my screen to come on. i was sure that the battery must have drained so i plugged it in and held the power button to get it to start and nothing happened. my charger was plugged in too. i was scared there for a bit until i unplugged the charger from the xoom and my screen came on asking me if i was sure i wanted to shut down. i had 56% battery. so i was able to continue. then all of a sudden my music started playing again.
I am using Office Suite Pro, great program. I am having a problem transferring back onto my Mac the Word files. They transfer ok but they do not open and show as possible corrupt files.
All of a sudden, when I plug my Xoom via USB into either of my computers (Win 7 x32 or Win 7 x64) the computer recognizes the Xoom, I can see the Internal Storage and the SD Card, but when I open either of these, I see no files. THe only directory that shows up on the Internal Storage is the Android directory.
Is there any way to transfer everything that I have on my Xoom to my laptop? I need to send in my Xoom for a replacement and I don't want to lose anything that I have on it
Today, I attempted to open a couple of .txt files by clicking on them. The same thing happened when I tried to open a .jpg photo.I tried tapping on the icon and I tried holding it down, double clicking, etc. Either I forgot what to do to open a file or something has changed on my Xoom.
I have a Motorola Droid 2 and my girlfriend has a Droid X. We are able to share media files between the phones as long as we are on the same WIFI network. We use an application that came with the phones called Media Share. Is there a way that I can do the same with my Xoom?
Recently, I have been unable to open files or access links on my Xoom. For example, when I go into my downloads and touch the screen to open (say) a PDF file, the screen goes dull and then returns to normal brightness and my file doesn't open. If I go into Documents to Go and open the PDF file it seems to work OK however?Same thing is happening with video files, for example I touch a video file to open it in VPlayer and, again, the screen goes dull and I can't access the video. Same with music whcih I can only access through the music player, not through other routes such as Astro file manager etc. Also when I try to open some links to websites embedded in emails etc the screen goes dull and then bright again and the links don't work.
The Samsung Galaxy 10.1 is supposed to support AVI files. As the hardware seems identical to the XOOMs is this something (software) that will be coming to the XOOM/Honeycomb or is this proprietary to Samsung.
In the process of preparing my Xoom for its return to Motorola for an LTE upgrade, I attempted to backup up "Internal Storage" to two different Windows XP machines. Despite numerous hard resets of the Xoom and numerous restarts of the XP machines, I had numerous problems in successfully copying all files. Despite selecting all folders, less than half would transfer during copy/paste. At least one file name in the "Android" folder was too long for Windows XP, but I didn't have time to find it(them). Moreover, 14gb of files disappeared from my external SD card, as did several folders from the internal SD card. I am an above-average computer user, and have never had this kind of trouble
When I download a PDF or some other word file where does it go? I'd like to get rid of some of the "garbage" that has been downloaded and worked with but I can't find it on my XOOM. My pad is not rooted and I am using the basic software on it. Where I can find the files and how to get rid of them easy? I am with Verizon and still running 3.1 and in California.
I've been trying and trying but copying more than a few music files seems to beyond my xoom.I have Windows XP connected to Xoom via USB, and after a few seconds the file copy just dies and I can't see the Storage device.
I just installed an update to the Music App, shows as version 3. Previously I had moved several albums to the Music folder on my wifi Xoom and could see and play these on the Xoom. After the update the Music app does not see the previous albums. I moved another wma file to the Music folder using the latest USB drivers but the App does not see it either. Other music playing apps on the Xoom see the files and can play them. What am I doing wrong? I think I have the Music beta but am not sure, can anyone tell me what the version of the Music beta is? Also, I installed the windows USB driver on all my computers. USB seems to work fine on my Win 7, WinXP and Windows Home Server computers except through USB I cannot see any media files in my Xoom folders. Also many files I have put in the download folder cannot be seen. Is this due to the .nomedia file in the folder. Can I just rename that file to see the other files there?
The XOOM 3G manual says that ts possible to use USB tethering for sharing your XOOM's 3G connection with the laptop. However, the XOOM doesn't have the option described in the manual! I'm running 3.2 on a non-US 3G XOOM.Well, you might wonder why I need USB tethering. So far, I've found that USB tethering provides better bandwidth than WIFI tethering.
I have a hard time tethering from XOOM to Laptop, after I reinstalled my Window VISTA laptop, and since I upgraded XOOM to 4G. I don't know whether it is 4G upgrade or VISTA that causes the problem. Sometime, it works the first attempt to connect, the other time i have to reboot my laptop a couple of times. My remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device driver is current. My Laptop saw XOOM drive fine no problem( I did installed Motorola Driver). And I attempted to do a soft reboot (Vol up + Power button), it shown the battery level and hung there for a long time (1 to 2 minutes maybe). I think i don't know how to do a soft reboot the right way. However, I can tether to my laptop, but i have to reboot my laptop a couple times. I did try to unplug and replug the USB cable and then set xoom to tethering/hot spot in both wifi and 3g/4g. It failed to connect unless I reboot the machine. My xoom is 3.2.2 with HLK75D build number.
One standard photo is about 5.8MB. pics are too big for casual emailing around and I've found no Droid way to reduce size. I have been using a free program called "send reduced" when I need to email a picture. I transfer pics to my computer using Google Drive when I want to save them. Was wondering how others are handling these huge files?
