Motorola Motoactv :: Foot Pod Versus Internal Pedometer?
Aug 31, 2012
Being it's synced with my Motoactv, does this mean it's using my foot pod, or the internal pedometer when not in workout mode? I just want to ensure greatest accuracy. If it's not using the foot pod, can it be setup? Also, if I wear my HRM throughout the day, will I need to start a workout to record my heart rate whilst doing everyday activities?
I had 2 separate runs in the same general area today that seem to have had the GPS drop out. Problem being, I thought the pedometer was supposed to take over at that point so that the pace and distance don't get all screwed up. That didn't seem to happen here. I was running an approximately 9 minute pace the whole time, but had it dip down to 17 mins and it would not come back up... I could see this happening for a few seconds, but for minutes at a time? I will attach CSV files for your review.ow could this possibly happen at this point? This is such basic stuff for this watch to be able to do, why cant it hack it? With a pedometer and GPS it should NEVER be this far off. So disappointing.
Ever since upgrading the firmware on my Motoactv to MA 1.7.2 E8, I've had a problem with the Pedometer.I can't really say what it is doing on a general day to day basis, but when on the cross trainer at the gym it appears to be losing steps - however, it does appear to be counting them. For example, yesterday morning I went to the gym and as usual I set my Motoactv to Elliptical workout and put it in my pocket. When I started, my steps for the day were around 1700.Part way through my workout, I checked my Motoactv and it was showing over 4500 steps so it all seemed to be fine, and it was clearly registering my "steps" on the elliptical. When I stopped, after 1 hour 45 minutes, I checked my Motoactv and it was showing 1600 steps - less than I started with! According to prevoius workouts on the earlier firmware, I'd expect my steps to be approximately 14000-15000 higher than when I'd started after such a workout. All the stats in "Recent" were consistent with earlier workouts of a similar magnitude and time (i.e. distance, calories, avg/max stride rate). Also, if I look on the Motoactv website, I can see my strides being in excess of 14000.This is the second time I've noticed my steps being way off, though I don't always check my steps. However, I'm fairly certain it was working perfectly prior to the latest firmware upgrade. I definitely clocked more than 20000 steps during the day in the past, so if it is "rolling over" back to zero, it wasn't doing this in the past.
I've been a MotoACTV user for just over two weeks now and woke to find that my shake to wake function and calorimeter/pedometer aren't working. My device is not paired with any phone and because it's new, it's got the most recent s/w already installed. I checked the Wake Device field on the watch and it was set. Am I missing something or is there an exsiting problem for these symptoms? The MotoACTV s/w version MA 1.7.12 N8.
Internal1 GB (320 MB user available), 512 MB RAM [URL] But when i go to Setting->App->Manage Applcations -> Tap All Internal Storage is 420 MB (example: 269 MB used + 151 MB free) & And, when i tap Running, it shows RAM is 302 MB (201 MB used + 101 MB free)Why there is a huge difference on RAM. i don't care about internal memory much but RAM should be 512 MB in total. This is not what i paid for. How can i fix this?
My daughter wants to upgrade from her current 9300 and wants a bigger screen and touch screen/and or keys. These are the choice (I'm in UK) 9860, 9810 or 9380. She's keep going between the full touch, to the touch with keys 9810.Can someone help with the choice who had a similar situation. I tell her that he 9810 looks bulky with the slide, the 9860 and 9380 to me are the same apart from the size of the touchscreen, 3.7" to 3.2" Does this matter much? Is typing still easy on the smaller 3.2" touchscreen?
While navigating the Motoactv Site, I frequently see (often several times per session) "An internal error has occurred. " Sometimes the refresh button fixes it, but often I have to log out and back in, which is a pain when it happens several times in a browser session. Screenshot attached. I am on IE 9 both 32-bit and 64-bit.
I have been logging into the MotoACTV site for for abput two months now. The very first time that I tried to login several months ago I received the Error Message: "An Internal Error has Occurred. Please Log Out and Log In again." I have rteceived the same message intermittenlty since then and also today. This seems to me a problem with the servers not adequate to the demand and should be relatively easy to remedy. i use a variety to fitness sites -- Strava, Edomondo, Garmin Connect, Training Peaks -- and have never received a simmiliar message. I think Motorola should get a handle on this problem.
I'm using CardioTrainer. Where I run I can't use GPS, so I use the pedometer feature. It works fine until the screen shuts off. Then the sensor that detects steps seems to also shutdown and stops counting my steps.
I don't get the choice of the gmail app versus the email app.
If I use gmail, I get notifications but I can't use the Messages Widget and the Universal Inbox (or I can't seem to set it up).
If I use email, I get notifications and I can use the Messages Widget and access to the Universal Inbox The manual appears to favor email over gmail, but its not entirely clear. The example the manual gives of sending an email is using the universal inbox.
I did set up the same account using gmail and email, and it seemed redundant. While the message app and the universal inbox worked, I would get double icon notifications. So, is there any clear choice here, on the gmail app versus the email app?
I've owned the MotoActv for two month, I got the mysterious "moisture issues" that everyone seems to be getting even though I've never used it in the rain. But the thing that is driving me nuts is the music. When I hit random shuffle of all my songs, I hear songs I don't want to hear... song that I do not own on my computer. Where are these songs coming from? Today I heard "Boot Scoot Boogie!" I abhore country music as does my wife. Doing a computer wide search shows no evidence that the song exists on my computer. Yet there it is playing in mile four. Other mystery songs have showed up too. The performance music playlist seems to be filled with songs I never heard of, yet evidently I perform well to them.
setting up auto-fetching applies to all email accounts. I swear on my 2.1 Spice XT300, the auto-retrieval was by email address (and also the smallest interval between fetches was 5 minutes, not 15 like on the Defy). I have never used 2.1 on the Defy; mine was original 2.2.1.
Is a class 10 32gb sd card for the Atrix really that much faster loading mpeg4 HD video than a class 4 card? Is it worth the $20-25. price difference just for the speed?

Let the developers know what new innovations you would like to see in Motoactive. Let them know what Apps, websites, hardware features that are out there that you love and would like to see incorporated into Motoactv.
I have enabled both the weather and the pedometer on the lock screen and only the weather is showing up. Would like to see pedometer as well. Wondering what I didn't do right.
I got a replacement phone recently and ever since I disabled things and fiddled with my settings S Health pedometer's shoe icon saying "Paused" has been stuck on my lock screen. I don't have S Health or the pedometer turned on or even on my phone. Now my lock screen doesn't tell me what song I'm listening to anymore.
As it turns out I only have 100mb of internal memory available to install apps. My biggest concern with the Charm was that the advertised 512mb wouldn't be enough and because it has Android 2.1 I wouldn't be able to install on SD Card either.
