Those that saw my thread about a problem with SMS messages will know I've done a full factory reset to my phone.
In Froyo, before the standard contacts facility was used, there was an ability to "link" duplicate contacts together to merge their details. Is that still possible in the Gingerbread world, and if so, how do you do it?
Say I have a contact that is a family member and they are on Facebook. How would I link that info with other info such as their phone number so that their profile pic from facebook comes up when I receive a call from them or even a text from them? I had the pics like that show up on my last Droid 2 (before I lost it and received a refurb replacement).

System version is 64.1.22.A953.Retail.en.GB No problem for the first few days but since then the screen switches off randomly (that new CRT-style shutdown, very cute). I can be viewing Google Maps, or using the camera, or browsing the web...doesn't seem to be a single trigger. The screen turns off and if I switch it back on quickly it will switch off again; if I wait a few seconds and switch on then it stops freaking out and the screen stays on.I've been using Cloudskipper and WinAmp with the lockscreen features enabled (since the stock music player on Milestone2 doesn't show up on the lockscreen). Could these be the culprits - is there something unstable in 2.3's lock-screen?Screen timeout and security timeout are set to 60 minutes.

I've got an A953 (UK unlocked) and it upgraded to Gingerbread fine, and I can connect to the Internet on the phone.When I start Mobile Hotspot, my laptop can see the phone and connect to it (receive an IP address by DHCP). However I can't connect through the phone to the rest of the Internet.Does it have something to do with me being on T-Mobile USA? Unfortunately I'm not really able to test other options, but it would be good to know if it work successfully for others.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI was really glad that Motorola had finally released a sync utility for mac! My phone hasn't been able to do this since I bought it. Anyway. I have downloaded and installed the latest version of MotoCast App and installed 'Motorola PIM Sync' on my Milestone device (as per instructed on the website.) I've activated the app on my phone 'Contact Sync App is now Active' message appeared.
I've done everything correctly right? MotoCast USB opens up, and displays the 'Please wait while MotoCast USB loads content from your phone'. I can leave it there for up to half an hour and no progress is indicated. It is really important that I can sync my phone.
I just updated my Atrix 4g with Gingerbread 2.3.4 and it fried my contacts lists. I had over 150 phone numbers that were trashed to 34 and some of these were even munged. Is there any way to recover my phone number lists? The update even stated in one screen that the contacts would not be touched, but I now have no groups and mostly suspect phone numbers.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my phone to gingerbread and noticed that the way contacts are handled under calling in the car dock has changed. Previouly when tapping on a contact, I would be able to choose which number to dial. Now, it seems I need to assign a contact button for each number. e.g. one button for "Bob Home" and one for "Bob Cell". Seems to be a step backwards. Is there anyway to return the contact behavior back to the way it was?

View 3 Replies View Relatedis there anything i can do to improve flash video playback? after the 2.2 update i was excited to be able to use flash on my phone, but video playback on it seems so bad that it's unwatchable.it's like a slideshow at best, and at worse i'm only getting one frame every thirty seconds or so. oddly enough the sound never skips or stutters at all.i've tried it over wifi and 3g. Internet videos in the native app and other non-flash streaming media seem to work perfectly.i'm using the stock browser with flash player 10.2.157.51 (the latest one available in the android market), and i've tried several different videos linked from m.flash.com
View 4 Replies View RelatedI updated my Milestone which is UAE version to Froyo yesterday after a long delay, was really excited all evening until i discovered two problems with my wifi.The Device does not connect to the corporate network as my office uses 802.1x EAP and there is no place to enter proxy where as my friends using samsung galaxy s (Froyo 2.2) connect to the network and browse using the wifi advanced settings to enter the proxy in their device.

But after some minute It restart with a blank screen then reboot to OS and MSU says update failed. My last resort is to flash it via RSDLITE but when im trying to get into bootloader it shows blank screen then reboot to OS. I cant enter to my bootloader.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just recently got my xperia x10 and had to almost immediately upgrade to the 2.1 system. I am noticing a few things that I'm not fussy about from the 1.6 system but the thing that is bugging me the most is that I cannot (figure out how to) link contacts in my phonebook to their facebook and twitter accounts. In 1.6, when you edited a contact it gave you the option to click LINK. I cannot find any of this on the new system. As well, for contacts that I had linked before, their facebook profile pic (current from the time when i linked them before upgrading to 2.1) shows up on their contact information (i usually only link facebook, as i dont use twitter as much) and their profile is linked. However when i go into EDIT, it says FACEBOOK, Timescape and a big exclamation mark that has a message beside it saying : Timescape Plug-In Manager contact information is not editable on this device.
i SHOULD be able to edit and link all my contacts. that was the whole purpose of the xperia having this timescape program.
I was using it and then it suddenly froze and crash. I tried charging it but the led on the side of the charging hole isn't turning on!

View 2 Replies View RelatedHave a brand new install of Windows 7 64bit and a 6 month old Milestone 2 which has always succesfully connected to PC/Mac in USB mass storage mode, but when trying to connect to new Windows & PC the PC tries to install MTP drivers that fail.Solution is to select the failed device in device manager and manually install the driver selecting the device as a USB mass storage device and not the default MTP device.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just picked up a new V10, added my gmail account, and it created a contact for just about every email I've ever interacted with in the 10 years using gmail. I'm obviously missing something - I just want the 200+ contacts I have defined on contacts.google.com to sync on the phone after linking it to a gmail account. What am I missing? I don't remember this with previous Android phones.
I tried doing a factor reset, setting up as a new device, linked the gmail account, but it still decided to create 2000+ contacts.
All of a sudden the profile pics from Facebook are not linking through to my contacts and texts anymore. Been on phone to helpdesk and no luck. Tried allsorts.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter spending 2 hours on the forums and 2 hrs on motorola website, downloading the motorola software update and finding that the updater says that your phone is up to date with 2.1 (where as the motorola site says 2.2 is now available) and browsing thru unending discussions, I was unable to update my Motorola milestone to Android 2.2. I last week sent my phone to the service center to ask them to update it to 2.2, they returned the phone saying it is up to date.I am sick of removing applications and always worrying about the remaining ROM availability. If the official version is not available in Dubai can someone tell me of a shop where I can get it updated, as I dont really understand the concept of rooting and stuff like that.
While I can see all my Exchange calendar items on my Atrix, it does not seem to work in reverse. So calendar items entered on the Atrix do not show in my Exchange box.

View 15 Replies View RelatedThis is the only phone that i've had that does not allow the option to link the notification and ringtone volume together. it's really inconvenient to use the volume rocker to adjust the volume of the ringtone, only to have to go deep in to settings to adjust the notitication volume as well.At least on my nexus 7, there's a mini setting when you hit the volume rocker that allows you to adjust the playback and notification volumes from your current screen. i hope that gets added to the JB build of this phone, if we cant link.

Doing that allowed me to use Smart Actions to lower the volume of my phone when at work, or make it go completely silent when at school. After upgrading to ICS I no longer have the ability to link the two volumes (see attached photo). How can I link the two volumes again and continue using Smart Actions. (note I want to try and not use third party apps to do something that was an included feature, ex: using another profile management app to disable notification sounds.)
