Motorola Droid Razr :: States "background Data Restricted"?
Aug 3, 2012
since ICS upgrade I have a constant notification that states "background data restricted" touch to remove restriction. does anyone know what this is? Can it be removed permantatly?
Every time my phone wakes up, I receive an error message that the background data is restricted. What sort of things should I be looking for to stop this from happening? Right now I have a smart action running called "Display" that enables the cellular data to run when the screen turns on. With this smart action the notification disappears within 3 seconds. Obviously a better solution would be to keep the alert from appearing at all.
I have a new T-Mobile S6 Edge and love the phone, but one thing I have not figured out is why I still get background mobile data usage even though I have disabled mobile data and set "restrict background data". Both tuiService and OS services are downloading approximately 100K at a time periodically over mobile data throughout the day even though I have a wifi connection.
I created a smart action that disables data sync when the Maxx is not on a charger. It is an attempt to solve the problem of sporadic massive battery drain. I don't think background apps are running when this occurs, but anyway I want to know if a successful sync can take place while it is enabled only when plugged in to a charger.
I'm trying to disable data for an application via the "restrict background data" option inside the data useage settings. However, even after selecting that, the app is still able to communicate over the wireless network.
Is this something that the app has to honor, vs it being forcibly put into place?
The app is "Slacker Radio" I want it to use content I cached instead of using data to pull down songs.
Where I can turn this setting off. It's the symbol of a leaf in the top left corner in the notification bar of the included screen shot. It says background data restricted tap to disable. This just started showing up and I can't figure where the setting can be found.
Yesterday I allowed the Motorola update on my Razr Maxx & now I wish I could undo it. When I go into "Phone", "Voicemail", "Text", etc. the background is black with white font (or in the case of Text, the background is dark blue with grey lettering). I am unable to read light colored font against a dark background so am having a terrible time with this update. Is there a way to change the color of the background and make the font black? I've tried changing the Display, Wallpaper, etc but that has no effect on the default background colors of the apps.
I have a problem with the "My Music" app and music homescreen widget.
I can find and play music tracks but as soon as I hit the "home" key the music pauses. Basically, any time I exit the player, the music stops.. So I can listen to music OR do anything else.. annoying? yes!
If I press the "home" key or exit any other way - The widget on the home screen reverts to "Go to music dashboard" and if I press to un-pause the music, I am taken back to the "My Music" homescreen and have to re-select a song.
fix / workaround / another music player (one with Motocast capability?). Can i re-install "my music" or reset something?
- I am running motocast, but this problem occurs on Motocast and downloaded music. - i have tried turnignoff motocast computers. - This does not happen with podcasts or any other media - just music in my library.
I realize this may not be related to only the RAZR but maybe Gingerbread, but is there any way I can change background colors on mt text conversations?
I have noticed an issue with the Galaxy S5 that apparently only occurs with the Verizon variant. I work for a place called Wireless Advocates, we are the cell phone kiosk inside of Costco. I'm asking about this because I've had three customers come in to ask about this background data issue.
I'm not sure what triggers this issue but when I try opening up google play I get the "Background Data Disabled : Google Play Store Needs background data to be Enabled" error. It then gives you the ability to either quit or enable the data. If you press enable it takes you to the account screen in settings.
When I go to Data usage the option to "restrict background data" is greyed out. You can't even select it and it isn't checkmarked either. Just to clarify, accessing the internet and other things on the phone work perfectly fine. It's just the use of Google Play that is having issues. I called Samsung customer care and they aren't aware of this issue at all. Also note that force stopping google play, play services, removing the google accounts and adding them back and rebooting the phone haven't solved it. After the reboot the phone will appear fine and then a box that says "Restricting background data".
I have a pop-up asking me if i want to allow data access while i'm in Canada on my droid razr. I hit deny but it comes back again and again.. Data enable is uncheck in data manager. Need a solution to stop this pop-up please.
ever since i got the ics ota on my droid razr on verizon my data connection has been horrible. i almost never get 4g and een my 3g is spotty. before ics i would have a nice 4g connection in most of my area (rockland/ westchester, ny).
So, when using most camera apps, the EXIF data (specifically Date Taken) is not filled in for any picture taken with this phone. Is there a way to enable this field? I have tried at least 4 different apps and was hoping the ICS upgrade would do it, but no love. What is up with this major failure?
With all the digital media in my life, I have automated a lot of processes to organize and make things consistent, so when I find something that makes the job harder, I really loathe it.
For some reason, my phone just did a factory reset. I wasn't using it, just had it in my pocket with headset plugged in. Pulled out the headset from the jack and was going to make a call. When the screen turned on there was the Android icon with what looked like a green "electron cloud" type symbol animated in its open "belly". After a few minutes with that on the display, tried to shut the phone off, it wouldn't power down so I did the volume down and power button. When it came back, the phone was cleared asking me to select a language.
Just picked up my RAZR. Only issue so far is the WiFi. The phone will connect to my home network but any attempt to use the browser gives a connection error. Same issue with any application that requires a data connection. My laptop connects with no issue and my Droid X connects with no problem.
almost since day one, i have not really had the pleasure of enjoying what 4g signal is really like. i'm in chicago, and when ever i'm either downloading music or streaming video (netflix, Internet) or downloading anything that requires data, the phone completely loses the 4g connection and takes at times up to 5 minutes for the signal to come back. if i keep the phone on 3g only it does not happen, but that defeats the whole purpose of having a 4g device. the "data saver" in settings is off.
I suppose I never paid too much attention to this Data Usage app in settings and it's accuracy. My bill resets on the 9th of each month meaning i run from (BOD) 9th-8th (EOD) of each month. I have the app set to begin on the 9th of course, but it continues to display 8th-8th of each month. Is this just the way it is or am I missing something? Shouldn't the tally show date begin to date end? This configuration effectively adds one extra day to the count. It's a small inconvenience I suppose due to my unlimited plan and that I can wait an extra day to move the slider over by one day, but I'd like to keep a rough record so that I know approx data used just in case one day I have to tone it down to a shared data plan.
My Maxx does not reconnect to 3 or 4G after using WIFI. When I toggle off wifi the 4G bars are white and I get a no connectivity message when trying to get e-mail. Then I restart the phone and all is good.
I saw some questions on other sites asking if Droid RAZR M supported voice calls and data simultaniously on LTE. (iPhone 5 does not.) The answer is yes -- you can make a call while surfing the 'Net on LTE, or on Wi-Fi, for that matter.
Since installing a new Netgear 7550 modem/router from AT&T, I have been having trouble with the WiFi on my Verizon Razr. I can connect to the network and browse just fine for a while, but eventually the WiFi indicator changes from blue to grey and no apps will load data. This includes not being able to load webpages. I also notice that once the icon goes grey, only the upward pointing triangle within the WiFi indicator comes on. Of course restarting the phone or rebooting the router restores the connection for a time, but eventually it drops again. Once the icon turns grey I get the following from the settings menu:
Status
Connected
Signal strength
Excellent
Link speed
72Mbps
Secruity
WPA/WPA2 PSK
IP address
192.168.1.xxx (the last three numbers never seem to change)
I installed onavo a few days ago and have noticed this process called «Android OS + others« using like 50 mb of data in just 3 days.....so what is my phone doing that its using that kind of data?? Can anyone help me figure this out? Im pretty sure all my social apps and stuff arent set up to auto sync and if thsy were it would be listed under the apps name not android os...
Not sure it's my imagination but sure seems to me I've been seeing a lot more data dropouts lately. Goes from (strong) 4G to nothing and eventually back again w/o interaction from me but takes a LONG time. 5 min. or more. And happening with more frequency.
So I got my RAZR about a week ago and it's great with the exception of WIFI. I can get it connected to my WIFI networks both at home and at work, but once they're connected, there's no data at all. I have tried disabling cellular data both manually and with a Smart Action once it's connected to WIFI and that doesn't help. I know it's not the network settings, as it's happening on multiple networks. The network at work is open, the one at home is normally WPA2-PSK but I tried changing the router to an open network and that didn't change anything either. My wife got a RAZR too and her phone has EXACTLY the same problem. Any ideas? I would *really* prefer to use WIFI data at home and at work instead of eating up my 4G/3G plan.
I dont know if this has been reported but after searching the forums i didnt see anything this specific so i figured to ask. My apologies if it is there already.Having the issue that has basically kept me from using smart actions, i had smart actions setup to disable background data when the screen is off, not charging and no movement is detected. The problem is when i turn on back the screen and begin to use the device the 4g icon stays white the whole time, and the data connection does not kick in at all. I usually end up having to put the device to sleep or airplane mode or rebooting all together to restore the data connection
When I owned my Droid X, I remember seeing a lot of people saying that after GB was installed, they recommended doing a factory reset.I never did this, and felt like the phone did fine, but of course got a little slower with age. love my Maxx and was wondering if anyone still recommends doing a FDR after installing ICS?It's nearly brand new, so doing a reset wouldn't be much of a hassle for me since I don't have much on the phone right now.
I got a smart action set for battery savings where when it's not charging and screen is off the background data is off. But a couple days ago I had the smart action running and go to use my phone and a screen pops up saying my mobile data limit has been reached and data has been turned off. The thing is that I have unlimited data and I don't have a data limit set on the phone. It kept on doing it until I went into the data usage settings and changed the cycle to the day before and it fixed the problem.
I noticed that the 4g data icon remains on when a WiFi connection is active on my Razr Maxx. Is this normal behavior? The reason I'm asking is because the 3g icon used to disappear on my Droid X when WiFi was connected, I thought the Maxx would behave in the same way.
I am currently using a Droid RAZR but would like to switch back to my Droid 2 Global for a short time. On the Verizon site I get a message during activation saying my unlimited data plan is not compatible and I am given other data options. Unlimited is included in the list so I am not worried about switching TO the old phone. My question is this:
If you are reactivating a 4G device coming from a 3G-only device, will you lose your grandfathered unlimited data plan on Verizon?
