Motorola Droid Razr :: Window Photo Viewer Cannot Open Picture - File Damaged Or Too Large
May 26, 2012
Recently I have been unable to view my photos successfully on my laptop. It has been happening for several weeks now...When I transfer the photos to my laptop via USB (before you ask, I have tried as USB Mass Storage, PC MODE, and Windows Media Sync) and try opening them, I get the message 'Window Photo Viewer can't open this picture because the file appears to be damaged, corrupted, or is too large.' I just now figured out today how to get the Motocast application installed and running, and it synced up ~400 pictures from my phone to laptop.
However again, when I try viewing any of them on my laptop, I get the message. I have been emailing the photos from my phone, but for some reason that stopped working today also. I go to the photo gallery and do a multi select>Share>Email, and the draft is created. I see the photos attached, put in my email address, but the email never sends...it just pops up with an orange triangle next to the subject and says Send Action canceled. Not sure what all information is needed...software is updated, is a RAZR MAXX, my laptop is Windows 7. About 65 of the photos/videos appear to be in Internal Storage and the rest are on sD card.
whenever i try and upload a larger file to Internet over wifi the phone stops me and says i need wifi to do this. it won't allow me to do this using 4g. how can i get it to allow this?
I can view the pics in the gallery. I cannot open them in a viewer once copied or emailed to laptop. The error message says its not a jpg file. I attached an image right from the phone. It seems that when i send the pic via bluetooth, it will open........
Camera no longer has picture in picture showing recently taken photo. Have to leave then go to gallery to view. Lots of simple friendly feature gone like this. Evan
Using the stock File Manager app I can see audio files on my Maxx HD's internal storage and also on the SD card. I happen to be looking at ringtone files. If I tap on the filename to play the ringtone, Amazon Cloudplayer pops up and shows all the music files on my SD card. No ringtones can be found. If I back out of Amazon Cloudplayer and use the file manager to try finding and playing ANY audio file on EITHER my SD card or the internal storage I get sent to Amazon Cloudplayer. I then have to use the back button to get back to the file manager icon in the App drawer. Same thing happens if I try to play audio files on my SD card. Amazon Cloud Player pops up. I don't want to use Amazon Cloud Player to play an audio file in SD storage.
If I connect my phone to my PC and navigate to the ringtones on internal storage and click on them they play as per usual (Windows media player). If I use my PC to play audio files on the SD card they play as usual. Why does my phone default to Amazon Cloud Player when I tap on an audio file in File Manager? What is the stock audio file player on the Maxx HD? Why can't I browse to an audio file with the file manager and tap on it and have it play? How do I fix this?
One standard photo is about 5.8MB. pics are too big for casual emailing around and I've found no Droid way to reduce size. I have been using a free program called "send reduced" when I need to email a picture. I transfer pics to my computer using Google Drive when I want to save them. Was wondering how others are handling these huge files?
So I went camping this weekend, and every picture I took is distorted when I'm lookin at them. Even some of my older photos are now being distorted. When using quick pic or the stock gallery, the picture looks great as a small thumbnail, but when i open the picture, a grey bar runs across the picture and the picture will be grey from the head up or the waist down. It's not the whole picture, just half of it. Was thinking about going to Verizon to show them, but I hate waiting in line for an hour only to have them say there's nothing they can do. BTW..no water on/in phone and camera lens looks in tact.
A .jpg picture was sent in a text message. I cannot figure out how to save the photo. There is no menu command that lets you save it. And I can't find the photo anywhere in my files on the phone. I connected the phone to my computer, and I still can't find the photo anywhere.
Proud new owner here! I owned an OG Droid so I feel like I'm "coming home" although it is much harder to get on the forum these days!s there a way to create a shortcut to a picture thus putting a 1 X 1 thumbnail on the desktop for quick viewing? (or a shortcut to a bookmarks for that matter)
I tried to send and receive a picture between the M and my son's SG3 since the JB update today. I was able to send one fine but I couldn't receive one. I keep getting a Play Store Screen that said it couldn't find the item.
I'm unable to take a portrait photograph or video on my Razr. If I hold it in portrait mode, the icons don't rotate like they do on the Galaxy Nexus, there's no option to set it to portrait mode, and every picture ends up in landscape. Even if I disable Auto Rotate, they're all in landscape. This is a real pain in the butt because sometimes I need more detail on something that is taller than it is wide but I have to settle for the extra space of landscape. The Galaxy Nexus and Droid Bionic allow portrait photographs and video, why doesn't the Razr.
If you are presented with the dialog box to always do something with a particular file, but later change your mind and want to us another program or something, where do you go about chaging file associations? I haven't needed to do this yet, but have checked some of those boxes and always wonder what if I change my mind.
On my previous phone, a Droid X running GB, I was able to access shared files on my home and office networks through a Shared Folders option in the File Manager. I don't see thus item in GB.
My photo gallery is a mess. There are many duplicates and two thumbnail directories. I would like to wipe it out and reimport photos from my PC. How the photo directories are arranged on the Droid Razr. If viewed in a file browser it appears that all of the subdirectories branch off the DCIM directory. However I have the following with multiple copies of each photo.
DCIM/.thumbnails/.thumbnails
There is also a "pictures" directory. What photos go into thumbnails? Which photos go into "Pictures"? What are the .spmo files? If I merge all of the thumbnails into one directory, is there going to be a problem with the files called "thumbdata3"? What will be best file structure and how to best organize it.
Although my WMV formatted Videos play fine on my home computer, I had no problem transferring them to my Bionic SD Card. Rather than playing, a small blue box opens at the bottom, which says "unable to open this type of file". Confirmed that the pre-installed Player should play MP4 and WMV. I tell them about my error message, and they recommend downloading the VLC Media Player (which works great on all files on my home computer, even on AVI and FLV files). Still won't play, so they refer me to Motorola, but before I call them, I also download, the seemingly popular MoboPlayer and MX Video Player.
The Motorola second level of support tells me to convert them from WMV to WMV, although my experience with Motorola's Tech support is that I sense that due to our mother tongues, it might be my fault for not parsing my words carefully enough. Feel free to contribute your WMV (or MP4 experience) to this thread, as the last advice that the Motorola Level 2 Tech Support gave me was to go to "setting", then "privacy" and then "restore data reset".
I downloaded Motocast to my new RAZR. However, all of my document files have a question mark in front of them and I cannot open them on my phone. Is there something more that I need to do in order to open my documents?
I have a Droid Razr MAXX. USB Debugging is off; MTP is the USB setting. I've turned my phone off then on again. However, my Macbook Pro (currently running Lion) does not register the phone as a USB device, and AFT asks me to connect my phone with a USB cable to get started.
For some reason my Droid Razr cannot receive an mp3 through MMS if it is over 54 seconds in length. Anything under 54 seconds comes through no problem.
some background. I am a paramedic and we are paged from a central dispatch. When this page goes out we have software that will record it and send it via MMS to our phones.as a secondary paging for some reason if it is over 54 seconds in length I will get the txt but not the file. This goes the same if it is emailed to me. It is not just my phone my co worker has a Droid Razr also and has same problem. other co workers with casio, LG and other phones get them with no problem so I have concluded it is Motorola that has put this in. Spent long times with Verizon and Motorola supports with no success (dont think they understand what I mean)
I took an mp3 and started cutting it back second by second until I was able to recieve it this is how I know 54 seconds is the magic length. also the file is only 500k so well under the size limit.
now to make things a bit more compicated. If I connect to the computer and d/l the file to my phone it will work. I can even txt said file back to myself and recieve it but if I txt it to my phone from computer again it will not let me have the file.
The stock camera app on my Droid Razr Maxx will no longer open. I have had ICS for several weeks without issue. It was yesterday that the camera stopped working.
I select the camera icon and the screen blanks like it is going to open, but it does not. I come back to the original screen where the camera icon is located.
I have cleared the cache. I have performed a full factory reset. Still no camera. I also tried downloading a third party camera app, and it will not open, due to a camera error. Don't remember the exact words in the error message.
Bottom line, the camera no longer works. I still have my photos, and I can view them using my gallery.
When I download photographs to my PC from the Droid Razr and attempt to open them I receive an "invalid image" notice. I have tried Picasa, Windows Media Manager and Adobe Acrobat, all unsuccessfully. The three programs open other .jpg photos successfully. I can successfully email the pictures from the Razr and then open but cannot open after a USB cable download. A downloaded photo file which I cannot open is attached.
Just purchased the phone and I am unable to install any apps from the Google Play Store. They all come back with the Error. Package file is invalid message. Not sure why since this is a brand new phone with nothing added.
I received the 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OTA update for my Droid Razr on Tuesday morning July 3, 2012. The install was uneventful. One feature of the previous operating system I use frequently is File Manager. I noticed that after the OTA update to ICS that the feature to "Move" does not work, or at least doesn't allow me to move files from Internal Storage to the SD Card. I searched the Forums and didn't find any discussions about File Manager not working the same in ICS as it did in Ginger Bread. I read the numerous marketing guides and preparation documents that were published on the Motorola Razr website and didn't read anything about File Manager changing. I downloaded the new Razr Operating Guide for ICS and found no discussion about File Manager being different.
I tried Motorola Live Chat and ended up getting referred to Level 2 Tech Support. I have powered the device off and on numerous times in the last 48 hours. I have also done a Power + Volume Down restart but the Move option is still not working. Specifically, I can select a file from a folder in Internal Phone Storage and select Move. I can press the Back arrow-key but as soon as I am back at the File Manager main screen (so I can select SD Card), the option to Move disappears. If I press SD Card (like I did before with Ginger Bread) the Move button does not reappear at the bottom of the page.
Does anyone know, with stock apps only, is it possible to save a data file to to the homescreen for quick reference? At minimum, I would like a shortcut to the sepecific data file. Example; I use a simple Microsoft word calendar template to do scheduling for the month. I email the file to myself and save it to the messaging folder. Everytime I need to check who is working, etc....I have to go through the "My Files" shortcut, messaging, then the file I need. Would like to just save the data file or a direct link to it on my homescreen very similar to (gulp) windows.
