I live in an area covered by Verizon Wireless and a smaller local Cell company, so I have to enable data roaming to get emails in certain places. I've enabled it several times and it will not stay on, it shuts off if I lose service for any ammount of time, or if I restart the phone. Is there any way to keep it permanently enabled?

I take the train from Baltimore to DC every day, and w/my OG Droid, never had problems, even if one or two location only seemed to have 1x available. With my Bionic, however, I am frequently dropping my data connection completely (moreso than it seems when I bought the phone in September -- not 100% sure since I wasn't paying close attention to it those first couple weeks).For the heck of it, I thought I report it on twitter and see what kind of response I would get from @VZWSupport. (I always get better Comcast support from their twitter folks than from my local office).Got a response (see attached graphic).They told me to enable data roaming. Really? Anybody had success with that? I'm worried about running up a huge bill.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was traveling in Germany and Italy, and I made sure to set "Data Services While Roaming" to "Off." However, I still did incur data roaming charges. They are really small-- like 15KB/day, but it's nonetheless annoying that my Blackberry Bold 9700 is using data even though I turned it off. I use AT&T. Does anyone know why?

View 15 Replies View RelatedIn the Battery and Data Manager > Data Delivery settings we have some options with respect to using data over the mobile networks and roaming.Last weekend my wife (iPhone) and I went to the Canadian side of Niagara falls. I double checked that on both of our phones, we had the Data roaming option disabled, but as AT&T still gets reasonable signal, I left data enabled over our home network.From time to time, the phones roamed to Rogers where we either got texts or in the case of my Atrix a notification saying were roaming and that we had disabled data so couldn't access anything. Great - I thought.The iPhone made it through the weekend just fine. The Atrix, not so much.Very early in the trip, at one point when I woke my screen to check it, I saw AT&T at the top with the data transfer indicators active (and blue). Then, the signal switched to Rogers and the transfer lights stayed on for a few seconds, before eventutally disappearing and only then did the data roaming notification pop up.
I thought this was weird, so I checked my balance, and sure enough, I had 80kB of roaming data present. Not much but at 1.5c per kB I wasn't sure I wanted to keep chancing this happening, and so resorted to turning off mobile data alltogether - which I don't think I should have to do (and DIDN'T have to on the iPhone).I'm not all that impressed. The data roaming option is a software issue - as the network by default allows it and so the onus is on "us" to make sure we don't accrue unwanted charges - but how can I if the phone just kinda does what it wants anyway?
I'm running ICS on my Razr and cannot connect to GSM in Europe. I have the latest build (recieved in the soak test a little over a week ago), and have international roaming enabled with Verizon (verified this seveal times now). I've been all over France over the last several days, and have not been able to connect anywhere.I've tried, power cycling, hard reset, toggling nework mode (Global, CDMA, GSM), forcing GSM, and just about every setting configuration in the test menu (*#*#4636#*#*). The only thing I can see that may indicate a poblem (beside the fact that I can see, but can't connect to any GSM networks ) is that I can't select the EURO GSM radio band in the test menu.

Going on a cruise next week that has GSM roaming on it. I plan to leave the phone off unless I need to check in with someone in US.I know that the voice rate will be $4.99 per minute, but how do I turn off the data portion of the phone to not rack up crazy roaming data charges. I do have unlimited international email but suspect the cruise ship does not count.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI know this thread is a year old, but I have to drag it up again as it seems Motorola haven't dealt with this problem yet. I have owned a Defy since a few weeks. I have a German vodafone contract which gives me a data roaming flatrate for several countries including Italy, where I am a lot of the time. And this roaming warning is driving me insane!! It pops up about 50 times a day (I live in an area with weak connection, so my phone loses the network sometimes, but finds it again after a few seconds, and up pops this warning), turns the screen on, drains the battery. It also pops up continually while I am driving and using the phone as a navigator, so I have to continually check "yes" so I can see the screen again, which can be pretty dangerous if you are driving on winding mountain roads...

(*228 option 2) ... 1/2 way through the update... a staticky noise will be heard and then the phone will completely shut off... View 1 Replies View RelatedRight after I have rebooted my Droid my sound continues when the screen times out.However, somewhere along the way something changes and when the screen times out the sound goes too.
I can't force the sound to stay on when the screen times out after that; unless I got through the tedious process of shutting down and rebooting.
The first time it happened I was in a meeting, picked up my phone to check for messages and the phone was off. Power button would not turn the phone on. I had to take the battery out and back in again for the phone to turn on, battery was at 65%. It happened another time since then and the only fix was to take the battery out.It's not that the screen goes black like other posts. The phone shuts down.Did I get a bad phone? Should I take it back to Verizon? The only apps that I have downloaded are Astro, BatteryLife, Beautiful Widgets, Handcent, Daily News

Each night I set my phone into the standard dock (non-usb one), and the bedside mode comes up as it should and the screen dims after a minute or so as it should. It is usually around 10 to 15 minutes after I dock the phone that the problem occurs. What happens: The bedside alarm app is removed from the screen, revealing the home screen in landscape mode. My screen then times out (shuts off) as it should, because the bedside alarm clock is not the active window. My alarms work fine, but I can't see what time it is when I wake up before my alarm goes off unless I turn the screen on and look at the lock screen. I've tried factory resets, fxz file, removing all apps from recent apps list, resetting the alarm app data, nothing seems to.

Recently, my phone has been randomly shutting off and the only way to turn it back on is to remove the battery. It has also happened when the phone is on and I am charging it. My husband's phone has not randomly shut off at any time. I have downloaded a few apps which include Accuweather, Go SMS pro and PicSpeed Wallpaper. I also inserted my micro SD card from my old phone into the new phone which I just removed to see if the phone will randomly shut down. I also do not have the pocket detector on.

so i check on user manuel that i can use Single mode on network parameter and put it only in GSM . Got my new 9900 a couple of weeks ago, besides the horrible battery life, When roaming, the data transfer rate (on 3G or 2G) deteriorates to a halt. Takes several minutes to download a web page. It even looses its connectivity to BBM at times. None of these issues occur when I am at home country. I am wondering if anyone else experiences similar issue and if there is any solution to the problem. The primary reason to have a BB is for its always ON reliability which unfortunately have been lacking on the "NOT SO READY FOR PRIME TIME" 9900 device.

In fact I cannot send data while roaming.Everything else is working fine, I receive messages on my device, I can receive calls and send txt messages. I cannot surf on the internet.Before I had no problem at all. It just started a few weeks ago.When I write a message and send it, it just stays in my mailbox with the clock icon next to it. When I abroad connect to Wifi, the messages are sent.

Looks like ios4 has a bad bug. Data roaming can occur even when the option for DR is set to off.
First, my prob. Brand new iPhone 4 set up as new. On first arrival in foreign country, emails start to download, can surf safari, even though no wifi and DR set to off.
Problem fixed by turning DR on and off again. Now DR blocked as required.
On a 3GS upgraded to ios4. Same initial probs as above butnpeob persists!
Phone continues to download data in background! When safari activated, DR-off message appears but data still downloads. Only way to turn off the DR is to change APN settings.
Be warned folks -and, anyone's experienced this?
I've got a problem with my Curve 9300 while roaming. I don't want to allow data while roaming, as it's costs are too high, but if I switch off data the phone drops the mobile connection after about two minutes. With data switched on, the connection is normal and stays on.
