Motorola Defy :: Its Freezing And Crashing From Large Memory Cards
Jun 3, 2011
I switched from an iPhone to this Motorola Defy one week ago, I purchased a 16 gig memory card to match the memory of the iPhone, and loaded about 10 gigs of music onto it. This froze my phone upon reading the card. I downgraded to an 8 gig card and loaded around 4 gigs of music, which also froze the phone. This time, however I was able to start playing the music before eventually freezing. I deleted all except 1.5 gigs of the music and now it works fine; however this is a waste of my money purchasing a large memory card; or even switching from the iPhone in the first place.
I have had my defy now for a few months, and I have been pretty happy with it (babyproof smartphone!)Unfortunately, its becoming more and more unreliable, and am having to reboot it regularly. This weekend is the worst. Here are some of the things it is doing:
all apps keep freezing and crashing (no fancy apps, mostly use it for twitter, facebook etc).phone keeps freezing and being unresponsible on the home screen keep getting an 'emergency calls only' notification, which then clears straight away when i go into notifications.mms photos - both sent and received take up to 5 days to be visible. until then they are just flagged as 'downloading'. I'm pretty sure it shouldn't take 5 days to download a 27kb file. After rebooting, I did have a gmail widget require a forced close immediately. I was never using that widget anyway, and couldn't see it, so I uninstalled it. Now on rebooting I have to force close Google Services Framework. I have decided that looks reasonably important and useful and have declined to uninstall that so far.
I got a 16 GB memory card (which actually DOES have 16 GB memory - I ran H2TestW to make sure, having been burned) so that I could take a compressed backup of my data files with me in my phone.
I had one copied over ~ 4.5 GB with no problems, but now Windows Explorer tells me that "the disk in the destination drive is full" when I try to copy a 5.6 GB file to it. "Properties" said there was 10.5 GB free space.
Then I deleted the backup which was on it to create more space (14.8 GB) but I get the same message.
I have brought an app called 'draw something' and it crashes all the time. It opens to the home screen and then crashes and shuts down and sometimes it doesnt even open.I have updated my iphone4s to the latest software, reinstalled it,restarted phone!
I have a motorola DEFY that came with a built in 2GB micro SD card.I now feel the need to upgrade memory to a 16GB card. While doing this How do I ensure the transfer all applications from android market (paid and free) to the new memory card?
So recently i bought a Xperia Z2, and it was fine but after 10 days, i turn it off and when i turned it on it start to Freezing, Crashing, lagging...
The Album can't be open because if u do it freezes and crash, sometimes even make the phone restart and you can't acess any content besides the config.
Netflix have some weird lags too, and sometimes when i receive i call, the led blinks, the smartband vibrates, but the phone freezes, and restart.
Sometimes the Camera app and File Commander crashes too. But sometimes, it starts fine, and if u don't reboot or turn it off, will work normally  i already tried to reset to the factory (In the Phone and by the Computer), remove the SD, clear cache from the apps, uninstall the antivirus, install the antivirus, uninstall all apps, boot in safemode...  To me, really sounds like a software problem... Sometimes it doesn't recognize by the PC when i connect, it only recognize if is working normally.
My N8 is just 2 weeks old. At first I thought it was me being unsure how the phone works, but now im sure its not me. It has crashed most days since I have had it. But today it has done something new. When it rings iut just goes " click, click, click. I will try answer the phone but couldnt as it had crashed... Im not impressed with it.
I swapped iphone with my cousin, for a blackberry torch, the phone not that old, 6 months max, but the last week the phone started freezing and crushing, so i looked on fourms, and ended up doing a fresh install off the Os and formated the memory card and did not save the old settings.
But the phone kept on doing the same thing, so i wiped the Os, installed the most uptodate Os i could find, and it still keeps on crashing and sometimes it will do this as the phone loads, as it finishes loading up, or after couple hours. So its safe to say, it cant be a app, or Os playing up.
Also the main thing i have noticed if the phone stays nice and cool, the phone will work fine, but once the phone warms up a little bit, thats when it starts to crash/freeze/reboot, but sometimes the phone will not turn on after putting the battery back, you have to leave the phone for 5 mins or so.
Could it be a type off thermal cut off to protect the phone? or battery? But the only thing i cant understand is, the phone or battery dont get hot, just warm.
I updated my wife's Xperia Mini to ICS 4.0.4 update .587 and since then it's freezing frequently, to the point that I have to remove the battery as nothing responds any more. I already tried a repair on PC Companion but the problem persists.

Memory card SanDisk 4GB Micro SDHC
I've had this phone for roughly 3 months now, bought it brand new from Phones 4U. Everything was perfectly working, when all of a sudden yesterday my phone kept thinking it has no memory card inserted. So I removed the memory card and did a battery pull, re-insterted the card again and still no luck. I next checked if the media card support was enabled, and it was. I then inserted my memory card into my PC and it worked perfectly, no errors or anything. I then tried formatting my card (FAT32) and inserted it once again and yet no luck. I then went to my storage options again, and under media card it reads 'A media card is not presently inserted in the device.' Even trying a different micro SD card did not help. For a second it said 'media card inserted' but seconds later 'media card removed'. This doesnt happene everytime, only sometimes.
Yesterday I bought a bricked HTC Surround because I wanted to see what I could do with it .My observation was the dreaded stuck on the HTC screen. So I researched and also had a samsung focus handy and found out a key problem we all know about the corrupt memory cards. So I download stock roms of both the focus and surround. My concern was merely on the surround ;I flashed the surround to att stock rom: i bought a torex 8 in 1 and a phillip .00 screwdrivers and opened the surround and took the memory card out and cleaned the memory card then i put the phone back together without the screws or the memory card I did the reboot reset on; the phone partitioned on its own memory: THEN the phone would not connect to Zune so I went under the computer on the start menu right clicked on then opened properties and open device manager connected the the surround to the device manager and forced it to download drivers(unknown device will come up when on device manager). Next I disconnected the phone after i had gotten the drivers on my computer (reassembled phone with memorycard and simcard in) I made sure gb was in the about phone column before i synced it to zune. The focus I used as a reference for how it would update and wp7 build. AND now the surround enjoys mango .
Does anyone know when memory cards will be available for the Blackbery Bold 9700? Also, is it clear that Bold 9700 phones purchased now in the U.S. through AT&T will accept the memory cards when they are issued, or is there some reason why they may be incompatible?
I've had my Torch for a few months and I just swapped my SD card (8gb) from my previous phone into the torch. It worked fine for a good while but I then started getting constant messages saying the media card was inserted then removed; these would occur straight after each other until i would lose patience and take it out.I wiped the card, formatted it, followed all the instructions on the forums of how to transfer media onto it properly but now the phone doesn't even recognise it. I assumed it was just that specific card as it as caused hassel in the past, so i tried a few other SD cards and the phone isn't recognising any of them.I intend to send my Torch to get repaired if I can't find a solution but I would rather not send it away for 14 days if I can avoid it.
My camera in my Blackberry says that the memory card is full and that I should delete photos. I have already transferred them all to my computer and deleted them via my computer however the phone still says that I need to delete. How do I do a complete delete of my memory card?
I have a corporate Bold 9700 that I want to swap out its existing 2GB card with a new 8GB card. I have files and pictures and whatnot on my 2GB card that I would like to carry over to the 8GB. Turning encryption off is not an option as the security policy is managed by the corporate office. And, of course, copying the files to my desktop, then putting them onto the 8GB card doesn't work either. Is there a backup option for the media card or something in DTM? I looked all over for it and came up with nothing. I have not wiped out my 2GB card and it is perfectly fine in the phone now; all files intact. I just want to upgrade to an 8GB card. How do I do that?
I have a prototype bb pearl 9105 that works 100% except that it cannot read memory cards, ANY MEMORY CARD. It has beta OS 5.0.0.925 (bundle 1534), can the firmware be the problem?
I have a question about the memory that BB's have. What is the point of having SD cards if we cannot use them for the applications? Storm 2 users have 16bgs of memory device and SD card combine, but we can only use about 100mb for apps. We only have 256mb of application memory. why? The OS takes half of that, with the memory leaks that we have an a couple of appls our phones start acting retarded and slow.
Why cant we have the application memory just for the OS and the rest of the memory for apps and out stuff. What is the point of having all this memory available if the phone is going to slow down because our memory is going low. Is it always going to be like this? the new bb's are going to be coming out with 512mb of application memory and i still think we are going to have the same issue.
My phone has multiple resets ad the direction of Motorola, and has been in for a circuit board replacement. Now the screen still freezes and the reception is hopeless.I am sure this handset is a lemon. It is still under warranty, 11 months old.
setting up auto-fetching applies to all email accounts. I swear on my 2.1 Spice XT300, the auto-retrieval was by email address (and also the smallest interval between fetches was 5 minutes, not 15 like on the Defy). I have never used 2.1 on the Defy; mine was original 2.2.1.
Ever since i upgraded to ios4 i am noticing that many apps are crashing and the phone going back to home screen. When i looked in the log directory there are a lot of logs that state "Low memory".I do not put any apps in background and just usually do some causual browsing on light weigh sites.Anyone else experiencing this problem?
I have a few cards in the app Cards (it sends personalized paper greetings and birthday cards through the mail) that show in my history (already sent cards as well as drafts). Is there any way to remove these cards from the app?
I updated to Froyo via Motorola website but it hasn't worked. My phone still shows firmware 2.1.1. Tried to update again via Motorola website but it now tells me that there are no updates for my phone.....I presume that it somehow detects that my phone previously downloaded froyo update.
My Defy is denied application on the market with no reason that I understand. Some apps are not visible from the phone, and are said "non compatible" from the market website. Sometime the website talks of country restriction while they should not be.
I have a my Defy & XT and as of 9:22 am the weather widget hasn't udated and I've turned the phone off and on etc and then I deleted my location and tried to readd it and it said something like.. location information cannot be found (not sure off hand).. I don't know what to do but it won't let me add any loactions but apps from the market work.
I am using an iPhone 3GS, iOS 5.1.1 and had no problem with it so far, but couple days ago I installed the smartsync app (syncs my contacts with facebook) and since then all of the apps are keep crashing because of the wired memory goes up really high, crashes the phone and do it again. Even if there is no app open, the wired memory goes up really high and crashed the phone and then do it again. So the battery dies really fast, and you cannot really use any app! I deleted the smartsync, I did a restore and a back-up
My trackpad recently stopped working, my phone kept freezing and my memory card wouldn't sync to my phone, so I restarted my phone and as it switched on an error came up explaining about RIM. I think the reason I cannot get this off of my screen is because my trackpad does not work
