I purchased the AT&T tethering plan which appears to provide a Wireless Hotspot capability, but my company won't allow individuals to have their own wi-fi networks at work, so I would like to learn how to tether my phone to my laptop so that it does not create a wi-fi network, but only provides Internet access to my laptop. Is this possible with the new Atrix 4G?

I can see the phone as a mobile hot spot and login but it will not let me access the internet. My laptop tells me that it can't acquire an IP address. Also, when I Use USB it doesnt let me upload the driver to use as a modem.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was always using on other phones with Android 2.2 FroYo that 3G mobile hotspot feature, which was included right in the Android system under Wireless Networks settings.Now in Defy there is no option like that under settings in FroYo. Defy includes own app called 3G Mobile Hotspot, which should work like that option for creating mobile WiFi hotspots in other Android phones. But here is the problem.On my older phone with Android 2.2 I could create 3G WiFi hotspot wherever I needed and it worked. But now, with Defy, when I use that application 3G Mobile Hotspot, it writes me error when creating WiFi hotspot "Cannot set up data link, please contact your service provider" I suppose it is something with my carrier (Vodafone_CZ), but when I used 3G WiFi hotspots on older phones (which had that feature included right in Android settings menu) it worked without problems and I a used mobile phone for 3G internet sharing with my laptop.Now I remember, that I have deleted some DUN profile under APN Internet profiles, could it be that problem, that 3G Mobile Hotspot app is not working?how to create WiFi hotspot on my Defy for example with some other app?Or if not, how can I use Internet Tethering in Defy Mobile Networks menu via Bluetooth (my laptot has BT). My single favorite thing about my Atrix 2 on the new ICS software...I tried all sorts of things before to get it to do that including factory resets. If there was not any other "fix" or "upgrade" I would still be thrilled with just this one. Luckily the phone just runs so much smoother, faster, and less "buggy" as well.The only thing that gets me is why my phone is at 1.0Ghz and my wifes is at 1.2Ghz. They were bought at the same time from AT&T in the USA, have the same apps, have tried resets on both since discovering this, have the same processors, serial #'s are nearly identical except for 2 numbers.

For $30/mo you get unlimited 4G tethering on your phone which is a bargain compared to the tablet plans especially considering 4G is 10x the 3G speeds.It makes we want to run out now and get a Samsung Charge so I can drop my 3gB Xoom plan. I'm going to stick with my Xoom data for now and hold out a three or four weeks for the Bionic. Hopefully Verizon won't change this offer before the Bionic comes out.

Its been going on for hours. I've tried looking in settings etc. to see if I did anything to change this, but can't find a reason for it.I allow the phone to go into sleep mode. And then when the time changes to each next minute it flashes for a second or two then goes back to sleep. How do I stop it from doing this? This is new as of this evening. I use my phone as my alarm clock so it will be very annoying to try to sleep with this thing lighting up every minute.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWas in an airport this week with a travel companion. Had my LapDock with me and was passing time away on the Web. My companion knew about my equipment and asked if he could use my Hotspot for his laptop. Sure I said.
Then I spent the next several minutes trying to get it to turn on. Finally took the Atrix out of the LapDock and it would turn on. Put it back in the LapDock and he stayed connected and I went back to what I was doing. Turned it off later still docked, but could not turn on again like before.
Searched around for this and found nothing about not being able to turn the HotSpot on while in the LapDock. Turns on/off fine when in my MM Dock. Running 1.8.3 stock at the moment.

I have a Droid Turbo and I want screen cast to my Chromecast some TV recordings I have on a hard drive. My tablet struggles to keep the hard drive spinning over OTG, but my phone powers it just fine. Problem is, the Chromecast needs a WiFi network to connect to, so I turn on the hotspot on the phone. When I do that, I have to disable WiFi on the phone, so it can't see the Chromecast.

Went to tether my Bionic to my laptop this AM and realized I didn't have a USB cable with me. I called VZW to get the wireless hotspot enabled on my phone for a couple days. Check. Went to settings to turn on the Hotspot. Nothing. nada. zip. Got a message saying it was retreiving the agreement, and then got a message that said I needed to call VZW to enable the feature. But I just did that. Reboot the phone. Try again. Same thing.Call VZW back, they verify I was indeed provisioned for hotspot, and tell me to reboot the phone. Still doesn't work. Get handed off to a technician.Reboot the phone again. No go. Turn the Bionic off and pull the SIM. Re-seat the SIM, boot up the phone, still no hotspot.I'm now almost 90 minutes into trying to get my Bionic's hotspot feature to work (because I wanted to avoid a trip to buy an overpriced USB cable). Tech says we'll have to do a hard reset. I decline and tell him I'll add this feature to my list of disappointments with my Bionic. He asked if there was anything else I needed, and I said the release date for the ICS update, but of course, they couldn't help me with that.

For the last several weeks neither the WiFi nor the Bluetooth will turn on. When selecting to turn on WiFi is starts to turn on then stops and displays Error. About 75% of the time after attempting to turn on the WiFi the phone will reboot. I have factory reset the phone and the WiFi and Bluetooth will work once after the reset but once the phone sleeps neither WiFi nor Bluetooth will operate. This is even after a power down. I have checked my settings and can't find anything that would cause this.

I was going to get PDANET, but i noticed that it was removed from the marketplace. other than that, there are no other ways (that i have found) that i can successfully tether my Nexus One with my iPad. Im not too keen in rooting my Nexus One only because it will void my warranty, but also because i "wont be able to receive OTA updates." Anyone else find a good way to do this without rooting? I personally dont think its fair that my unlocked full priced Nexus One is unable to tether because T-Mobile pressured android into doing so.

regarding media syncing between my computer and my Atrix. After the GB update, my computer (either of them, both running windows 7 64bit, one professional, one home edition) don't recognize the device at all. I have Moto Media Link installed, and I've tried reinstalling the drivers software and such, but whenever I plug the phone in it just charged, I get no notification like I used to that I was plugged in. In the past, the phone beeped and asked me to choose what kind of connection I wanted. I get no such prompt now. The phone is not set to debugging mode either.

I wrote the author to see if i can get a fix.So i thought of another solution. Maybe i can put a bluetooth dongle in the laptop and somehow install a virtual keyboard in the computer so the phone can see it as a bt keyboard. I have seen a software for this but on linux only and i haven't been able to find a windows solution.

I have searched for a way to back up contacts to the computer but all I've found is how to back them up to an SD card.
(I understand that if they are in google contacts, I'm safe, and my phone has that, but the other Atrix in our home has many of the contacts saved as a Motorola contact.) That Atrix also does not have an SD card!
I tried resetting network settings without success.
I can connect to the laptop but DHCP doesn't auto assign the laptop an IP address so it cannot access the internet. Tried manually configuring the settings of the wireless card in windows using the same address assigned when connected via USB but it still doesn't work.
It states that subnet mask isn't compatable with ip address.

They still show a strong wifi network connection, but cannot access internet sites. Nokia support and my AT&T store say this should not happen and does not happen on their phones.
