Is it possible to change the compression used to record videos, or install a different codec for that matter ? IMO the video recording is equal to that of devices that are geared for video recording, but the right configuration would open up the video recording possibilities and with 4K video recording on the horizon which as far as I know, no other smart phone will have the only thing needed is storage space !
View 1 Repliesbeen meaning to look into this for the longest time. i know that our providers must compress our media messages for speed and size. i'm not overly stressed about photo compression, but video i wonder about. where can i find the best info on which resolution is the happy medium between quality and posting speed? i know at full hd that Internet is gonna take quite some time and that g+ doesn't compress either, but video messaging always compresses even when i go down to vga and so. also, i'm always asked to resize the video but i have only 2 options, qcif and qvga. those are my specific questions, but if there is a site with answers to a myriad of other concerns related to media compression and posting i'd love to see it.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently took a video that was 1.5 min and the size of the file was over 6 mb. I used the default settings. I was unable to enclose it in a text, or an email on the phone. I moved it to my computer but still was unable to email it as it was to large. I tried zipping it, raring it but could find no way to send it.
There has to be a way to reduce the size of a video as I can with photo's.
I have Windows phone 8.1 installed and I need to do a factory reset in order to change Microsoft account and I am just wondering if I do this, I will have to downloaded the Preview for Develoepers app again from the store, right?

The history shows, but when you long press on one it just pops up "details." There is no way to delete the history. If you go into phone settings and under privacy turn off access to call history for Messaging+Skype, then app will no longer load/work.

I have lots of things installed that I don't use. Also, in the Memory screen, the top item is "Compression". What is that referring to? I would assume that if something is compressed, it consumes less storage space, but conversely requires decompression in order to "run" which would effect performance, right?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have three Lumia phones, a 920, a 1020, and a 1520. With each I just attach a USB, copy the camera roll files to my PC. With the first two, I open the video mp4 files on the PC and Windows Media player has no problem. Not so with the 1520, with any video file copied to the PC, it says: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." Again, the same video file plays fine on the 1520 that shot it.On the PC, Quicktime and Movie Maker choke on video files too. I tried a hard reset of the 1520 but it did nothing.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen listening to the Music app on my 1520 (16 GB ATT) and using my headphones, sometimes the volume will randomly get louder then quieter in a rhythmic motion.
It does not go from 0 to 30, its more like 5 up, then 5 down. The actual numbers of the volume stay the same, but I can definitely tell there is an increase and decrease. I've encountered this a few times from different artists (so it is not a style of the artist). Also, it seems to happen whenever the headphones are accidentally pulled out mid-song. After the song is over, the next song seems to be fine. Is there a work around other than waiting for the next song?

The "Checking for updates..." message will appear, but more than five minutes later, nothing happens. When the lock screen appears and I unlock it, it now says "Your phone is updated" but the "Last checked" date was the date of the last check when things are still ok.

Same thing happens when she calls others and they all complain they can hardly hear her. After 5 or 6 secs into the call the volume gets a little louder but not as loud as it should be. She even set it to full level at 10. I asked her to connect a headset/earphones while on the call and that actually worked and the volume was loud and clear but as soon as she unplugs the earphones, the volume drops to a very low level.
