Lumia 1520 :: Can Rename Device?
Dec 7, 2014Having recently activated my 1520, having upgraded from the Ativ S Neo, I did a restore from the device backup I have on Onedrive, and I just discovered in the about menu that my phone's name is actually Ativ S Neo. It seems to have named it after the backup. How can I straighten that out? I can't find any options to change it.

Dec 20, 2015This is strange. I'm running the latest Technical Preview of W10M on my Lumia 1520, and have decided I want to revert to WP8.1.
I believe the way to do this is to use the Windows Device Recovery Tool, currently at V3.1.5.
The WDRT installs just fine. When I run it and plug in my phone, it correctly identifies it as a Lumia 1520, and my phone correctly asks permission to let its USB port be used (which I OK, of course).
WDRT says "Please select device to continue" and I click on the picture of the Lumia 1520. At that point it goes to the "Reading device information" page and just sits there forever, showing the spinning circle and "Please wait".

Aug 8, 2012I just got my new phone (Lumia 900) today and so far I love it! I transferred my music via Zune but when my old phone an N900 died I copied my contacts list onto my laptop. I have a folder of vCard files which I want to put on my new phone. I have connected via the USB cord but the phone doesn't appear on the list of drives etc. in windows explorer. For some reason it appears in devices and drivers, but I can't drag an drop into it. What I need is a similar thing to the sync option in Zune. To be clear this is my list of phone contact numbers only, not email etc.

I have tried Windows explorer as well as the Windows Desktop App. I can see my phone in explorer and I an click to open the Music folder. When I try to copy/paste to there it just hangs and then I get an error message to stop or skip copying? I am using Windows 7 SP1. This is a deal breaker if I can't get music and photos on here.

Apr 12, 2015I have three Lumia phones, a 920, a 1020, and a 1520. With each I just attach a USB, copy the camera roll files to my PC. With the first two, I open the video mp4 files on the PC and Windows Media player has no problem. Not so with the 1520, with any video file copied to the PC, it says: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." Again, the same video file plays fine on the 1520 that shot it.On the PC, Quicktime and Movie Maker choke on video files too. I tried a hard reset of the 1520 but it did nothing.

Feb 9, 2015When listening to the Music app on my 1520 (16 GB ATT) and using my headphones, sometimes the volume will randomly get louder then quieter in a rhythmic motion.
It does not go from 0 to 30, its more like 5 up, then 5 down. The actual numbers of the volume stay the same, but I can definitely tell there is an increase and decrease. I've encountered this a few times from different artists (so it is not a style of the artist). Also, it seems to happen whenever the headphones are accidentally pulled out mid-song. After the song is over, the next song seems to be fine. Is there a work around other than waiting for the next song?

The "Checking for updates..." message will appear, but more than five minutes later, nothing happens. Mar 26, 2015My mom has a 1520 and every time she calls I can barely hear her but she can hear me quite well. Same thing happens when she calls others and they all complain they can hardly hear her. After 5 or 6 secs into the call the volume gets a little louder but not as loud as it should be. She even set it to full level at 10. I asked her to connect a headset/earphones while on the call and that actually worked and the volume was loud and clear but as soon as she unplugs the earphones, the volume drops to a very low level.

Jul 26, 2014Running the latest DP build of WP 8.1 (8.10.12397.895) and, of course, would like to downgrade back to WP 8 so I can get the Cyan update.
Problem is that my phone is not being recognized on any computer I plug it into.
I've tried two Win 8.1 machines, a Win 2K12 and a Win 7. On all of them, I've completely uninstalled all of the Nokia software (three of the four machines had never had the software installed) and then reinstalled both the NSU and NSU for Retail. No go.
I did a reset on my phone. No go.
I removed both the SIM and the SD card. No go.
I've toggled the hidden USB settings on the phone. No go.
I've rebooted the phone upteen times. No go.
The phone is simply not being detected by the desktop OS and is not being installed on the computer.
I've tried everything I can think of to get this to work.

1) Capacitive lights are not working . Only back arrow light didn't work.

I take it to Nokia care and got it fixed without warranty since it is two year old.And the technician told be that he changed many spare parts and he make use of 1320 spare and got it fixed. Jan 7, 2015After I press the on/off button or after the screen times out, I've noticed that after some amount of time the phone will have turned back on by itself. I then noticed that it was actually rebooting. I think it may have started doing this after I installed the VLCPlayer app.

Only charges when plugged in, slow charging notification pops up.
No new hardware "ding" sound.
No new devices in device manager.
No devices with exclamation mark in device manager.
No unknown or unrecognized devices in device manager.

Background : I was on Windows 10 build 10581. Upgraded to 10586. All fine.
Phone showed up and everything. However I wanted to go back to 8.1, so I started up the Windows Device Recovery Tool. It asked for a mandatory update. Updated. It recognized my phone (which was on). Started downloading server side software. I ran out of battery (the laptop), and it shut down. After starting up again, the phone is unrecognizable.
I unintsalled Windows Device Recovery Tool and tried to install again. Error. Several times. Finally after cleaning up everything related to it (RevoUninstaller), I managed to install it again. However, my phone still never is recognized. Uninstalled all Nokia/Microsoft drivers (no luck).
