LG G3 :: Phone Not Waking After Screen Went To Sleep - Lollipop 5.0.1
Mar 23, 2015
My phone has developed a condition of not waking after the screen went to sleep. I am not sure it started after Lollipop 5.0.1 or not. But it is doing that more frequent with time. When I tried to double tap to wake the phone, only the task bar on top, the home, and back button at the bottom lighted up. If I press the power button, the screen will go black completely. Press the power button again and the task bar and the other two button lighted up again. The way to finally wake up the phone is repeatedly pressing the volume up and down button together. This could require several minutes of pressing the volume button to get the screen to turn on. The phone is not rooted. It works fine when the screen is on.
Just got my Photon a couple weeks ago. Not too long after setting it up I started having issues with the screen not completely waking up from sleep. I'll press the power button to turn on the display and unlock the phone, but only the blacklight turns on. So the bottom four buttons light up and there is a slight glow the the main screen. All I have to do to fix the issue is turn off the screen then back on and it works. It's not too inconvienent but I get the feeling this isn't a feature I bought the phone for.
Also important to note when the backlight comes on I can still operate the screen, just blindly. I get haptic feedback and can navigate to certain areas.I've tried a uninstalling certain apps, turning off pocket detection, and ultimately a factory reset. Nothing works.
Seems to be a subset of individuals having problems with their WIFI Xoom going to sleep and not waking up or rebooting while sleeping. Its been discussed in other threads but thought it would be helpful to have people post the problem in a new thread to get more visibility and gather more information for Motorola so maybe they can help get it fixed for everyone who is having the problem.General Assumption on common Symptom:Xoom is going to sleep if left idle and is not waking up. Additionally if left idle is also observed to be rebooting on its own. Often takes the 3 finger salute (vol up + vol Down + power) to get device to come back on. Battery life seems to be lower than normal due to problem.
Is Xoom refusing to wake up when attached to power when it goes to sleep? Is Xoom refusing to wake up when not attached to charger when it goes to sleep? How long does it take after device is sleeping for problem to occur? Is there any difference with device "freezing" or not waking up from when let it go to sleep on its own, or when you hit power button to put it to sleep? Have you done a factory reset on your device? If you have done a factory reset did you test the device for problem before adding your applications back? When trying to wake up device how many times did you push power button? Is device appearing to reboot itself and when is it doing so? While you are trying to get it out of sleep mode? (when power button is pushed)Spontaneously without any user interaction with the tablet? Other? Does your battery seem to be draining much faster than normal?Does problem occur if Xoom is connected via USB to the PC?Does is always come out of sleep? Does it randomly reboot?
My Tmobile S6 will randomly turn the screen on, as if I hit the power or home buttons. I noticed this while it is sitting on my desk, not being charged. Once I noticed this, I have seen more and more instances of it when I pulll the phone out of my pocket and random apps will be open. This has been causing me to have much lower battery life than expected.
My phone has an intermittent problem. It has been happening on and off for the past few weeks, but I dismissed it because it really doesn't cause me any issues. When wake the phone for the first time in the morning (using the side button above the volume), I'm met with a pixellated and hard to read screen. To fix this, I simply press the sleep button again, then wake it. The screen problem won't recur for the rest of the day, but is likely to happen very first thing the next morning.I've attached two photos, one of the screen problem, and another of how the screen looks normally. You can see there is a big difference.
Personally, I'm not that bothered by the problem the phone works fine in all other respects and the screen is obviously fine. I don't know if it's a software bug, or if I have some kind of hardware problem that could escalate.I'd rather not be without my phone, I really like it, and would be willing to put up with the problem if it doesn't get any worse. But, perhaps you think I should get it checked out sooner rather than later? My partner bought this phone on the same day, and he hasn't had the problem once.
Just today, my phone started waking itself up every few seconds after I had pressed the lock button and this is severely draining my battery. It has been doing it all day. I restarted my phone and it keeps happening. I have not manually updated anything recently. What can I do to make it stop!?
So after the update everything is appearing backwards on my screen. It's like looking at my phone in a mirror. Even my beautiful widgets clock is reading backwards...
when I upgraded my phone to the update 4.0.2.a.0.62, it always shows a blank screen whenever I tried waking it up using the power or the home button, I also tried resetting my phone, but it still shows a blank screen, is there something I have done wrong when I updated?
I am getting the most ridiculous battery life of any phone ever, I can't work out if that's because I have some dodgy app on there which insists on checking my Twitter every 60 seconds (The culprit on my old HTC Hero) or if I can't put this gorgeous piece of technology down. When I do get on with my actual work however, the shining slab of powerful bliss sitting between my keyboard and PC screen, I notice the screen wakes up every so often for no reason what so ever.
is there no way to stop notifications from waking the screen? Everytime I get any sort of notification, my screen wakes up to display the notification on the lock screen, and then goes back to sleep a second later. I would like to turn this off and it drains battery.
I got marshmallow update yesterday and it is awesome, but I am facing one small issue. My screen stays off after a call ends. Why is that? Facing this issue in android 6?
This has happened several times lately. Green 1520 less than a month old. Sometimes when I wake up the phone, the screen simply won't respond to touch. It's not a matter of it lagging on waking (which also happens), it flat out won't respond period. I would rather not have to go through getting a replacement already.
This annoying issue just started in the last few days. I use wireless charging almost exclusively including in the car. Once the phone is completely charged it cycles between charging and not charging. Every time it starts charging again it wakes the screen up and does the charging started notification which means a I get a notification sound about every minute or so.
Nexus 5 Version 5.0.1 Not rooted Not unlocked (IIRC)
Last night, I noticed that my phone didn't seem to be sleeping. I rebooted my phone and it seemed to be working. The next time I tried to check something on it, the screen would not come on after pressing the power button. Pressing and holding the power button, the phone would reboot and I would be able to use my phone normally until it slept/I turned the screen off. Power button does not bring the screen up, but the backlight does come on. Notifications come through, (light included).
I've since factory reset my phone, loaded settings from what was saved before.
-> phone will not wake Factory reset, -> treat as new device, no apps from google play installed -> phone will not wake
This issue for me has just started as of last night, with nothing updated/installed/changed recently. Cycling the power (holding power till it restarts) allows for use of the phone (until it sleeps), power + vol up does nothing different from just power, and power + vol down boots to the bootloader with nothing changed when started from there.
I have looked elsewhere, this doesn't seem to be a common problem, but seems (to me) occurs more with rooted/rom'ed phones and not stock phones. This phone hasn't been either of those. None of the things I've found seem to have any solutions.
Edit: I went through the Google Play store troubleshooting thing for 'Device will not turn on' and now I cannot get anything other than the Google logo upon restart, or the Boot-loader if Vol - and power.
Just got my new windows 10 phone, and so far really liking it. I use the Hello feature to login, however it still prompts to scan iris even if the phone is unlocked already and I'm just waking up the phone.I can just bypass it by swiping up the screen, is this normal can it not be disabled when just waking the phone?
Sometimes, perhaps just a couple times a week, I will hit the power or Home button to wake my phone and the screen will be very, very dim for 5 or so seconds. After that, the screen will be the normal brightness and the phone behaves normally. Most of the time, the screen pops on right away, and I can't find any correlation that explains when this might happen. It's not related to the environment's brightness, as AFAIK. It seems to be completely random.I have the screen brightness manually set at the lowest setting. Auto brightness is turned off.I got my X2 with the original Froyo firmware, and didn't see this happen until the current 2.3.4 firmware. But the older firmwares weren't current for very long, so perhaps it would have happened if I'd used the older firmware versions for a longer time
Where is the proximity sensor on the 950?The reason I ask is that right now, when people text me, my phone is not waking up and showing the notification.
From left to right on the front I have what looks like an LED (which never lights up), the camera, the speaker, and another tiny dot. Which one is proximity sensory? I have read that if it is blocked it the phone won't wake up when texts arrive
I just purchased a LG G3 (coming from a Note 3) and noticed that notifications do not wake up the lock screen like the Note did. Also, when I do receive a text, I have to swipe to unlock the screen and it does not give a preview of the text, only who sent it. Is this a limitation of the phone? For work, I need the preview on the lock screen.
I have problem with waking the phone with power/lock button. Every few hours (for my usage once a day) the phone doesn't wake after locking. I have to press and hold power/lock button for a few seconds to manualy restart it. I know that N5 has notorious problems with power/lock button but as far as I know its problem with phone not going to sleep. I don't have problem with that.
I noticed this after an update to M. I am on XtraSmooth 29.10 build with RacerKernel 28.10. DT2W dissabled. Also i have the usual problem of turning screen on after calls. For me the phone sometimes doesn't turn on until the other person ends the call. Do I need to replace the power/lock button?
it will not stay asleep (screen off). If I let the screen timeout, or tap the power button, the screen will turn off for about 1/2 a second, and then come right back on. The lock screen will not engage when the screen times out. This developed suddenly overnight, with no app updates or system updates happening (that I'm aware of). Everything else works fine, but battery life is, well, less than good.
The phone is about 6 months old, on Verizon, and runs 5.1.1. It has always been in an otterbox with a screen protector, and is in great condition. No water damage. Never rooted. Not many user-installed apps. The problem persists after factory resets (and before re-installing my apps) and without the case or screen protector. Airplane mode has no effect on the problem.
Could this be a (hardware) defect? I see one other post here with a similar problem, with the solution being to boot into safe mode. However, I can't seem to do that for some reason.
I have a 3GS running IOS5 and it will not enter sleep mode, so the screen stays on constantly. It was not dropped or damaged in any way. A restart did not so.
Just downloaded lollipop on ATT. The smart screen notification keeps coming on the lock screen. I went to apps, found smart screen and tried to deselect the notification but its greyed out. How to hide this notification from popping up on lock screen?
i woke up to yet another issue today, i love my phone, so i am trying to be patient. Today the screen will not go to sleep/time out. i checked the settings, it was still set to one minute, so i changed it to 30 seconds ..didnt help. I did a battery pull.Screen on. I still can manually put it to sleep with the power button, but this is not good. Its sucking my battery life!
I have a HTC one m9 and I cant seem to get the "double tab to wake" feature to work. I can double tap to sleep but not to wake. It all started with the 5.1 upgrade.
I've done a cache wipe, a battery reset, and even a factory reset.
I've checked all my setting and the double tap to wake/sleep is checked.
While I'm on a call on speakerphone, the phone will go to sleep. The problem is that when I am finished with the call, I cannot end the call until after I wake up the phone. I would rather the phone stay awake during the call so I can end it right away. I have tried some apps that are supposed to keep apps awake such as Wakey without success.
I not real flash with new phones but decided after recommendation to purchase the Xperia X10 mini/pro mobile phone.
Things look pretty cool but cannot work out how to hang up a call when the screen has gone to sleep. It seems I must push the centre button to get the screen illuminated then depress the icon to hang up.
This seems a little odd to have to push two buttons to hang up.... Have I missed an easier way?
Have just updated to Lollipop and all seems good except when when I sleep the phone, if i touch the top left hand corner of the screen the phone awakes, gets a bit annoying as when i hold my phone it keeps switching on, want to disable?
