IPhone :: Wi-Fi Can Stay Connected While On Standby

Jun 14, 2010

I work in a place where there is zero AT&T reception, but WiFi coverage in 100% of the area. I just read that iOS4 will allow WiFi to stay connected even when the device is in standby,, IS THIS TRUE?!And if so, could I just get a skype landline number, stay connected to WiFi, and use my iPhone 4 at work through Skype?

IPhone :: 4S Won't Stay Connected To Wifi?

May 21, 2012

Since it was new and running iOS 5.0.1, my 4S hasn't wanted to stay connected to wifi. When I enable wifi in the settings menu, it has no problem finding wifi networks, but when it goes to join them, it can take upwards of 45 seconds to actually connect. Once it connects, it functions perfectly fine using wifi up until the phone gets locked. After locking the phone, it loses its wifi connection and will not reconnect on its own, whereas most iPhones will grab the wifi connection again automatically within a second of unlocking the phone. I've tried using this phone on multiple wifi networks, including an unsecured network, a WPA2 network, and multiple public wifi hotspots, so I think I can rule out any router setup issues. I've done a full restore of the phone, I tried resetting the network settings, and I upgraded to iOS 5.1.1, all to no avail. Is there anything else I can try, or is it safe to call that this is a hardware issue that needs to be resolved at the Genius Bar?

BB Accessories :: Headset Won't Stay Connected?

Jun 27, 2011

I cannot get any bluetooth headset to stay connected to my phone. I don't have a problem pairing them, just getting them to stay connected long enough to do anything.

I currently have my Nuvi 660 and my motorola H700 headset paired to my phone. Either will connect initially, but then go into a state where they keep disconnecting and reconnecting.

My device is a Blackberry Bold 9650 and is running OS version 6.0 bundle 2333. (I have had this problem since version 4 however.)

I have Bluetooth turned on, and both devices are set to trusted. I do not have both devices running at the same time, so crosstalk is not an issue. Range between the phone ond the device is typically less than 3 or 4 feet with nothing in between them. I've tried about everything I can think of with the options on the devices and the phone and still am having the same issue.

LG :: GBU221 Bluetooth BTDiag Will Not Stay Connected

Mar 5, 2008

I have a Iogear GBU221 USB bluetooth adapter, and an LG VX8700 phone and an LG VX9900 (Env) phone.I am familiar with how to use bitpim and the virtual serial/com port on the BT adapter, however...I can't get the BTDiag to stay connected. On the 8700, I can transfer one song/file/picture at a time IF I'm quick enough, but then the BTDiag connection drops at about 30-45 seconds and I have to reconnect and do each transfer one at a time. So at least this phone works somewhat. However I would like to not have to do the whole dance around the pole and do transfers one file at a time. Ringtones and pictures aren't that big of a deal as far as sending, but when receiving, it won't stay long enough to do a full receive, not even one folder at a time.

However...the 9900 (Env) won't even stay connected long enough to send not even one file/ringtone, etc...let alone receive anything to the computer cause it has to pull the whole folder contents from the phone to complete the transfer. But anyway...I connect the BTDiag...jump over to Bitpim like dancing on hot coals and start to send a ringtone and just as it gets close to the end of the transfer it hangs and then a popup dialog comes up that says (can't remember the whole error verbatim) something about it can't manipulate the file system on the phone, and voila...the BTDiag then disconnects.

I contacted Iogear about this problem, and they said that I "probably" have to connect the phone via usb cable and let the computer recognize it that way, and then proceed with the bluetooth method. Well that is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of...why would I buy the cable if I have the bluetooth dongle, or vice versa. And furthermore...why would the phone have the BTDiag service on it if they didn't intend or want you to use it.So is there some kind of fix to this issue, or am I simply missing something here??

Motorola Motocast :: PC Won't Stay In Connected Status

Apr 17, 2012

I have a Droid 4 for my phone, my computer is a desktop running Windows 7 64 bit ultimate. I've tried to connect to MotoCast both wirelessly and with the USB cable. I Uninstalled it and redownloaded it. The part on my computer refuses to stay online, even when I am in MyMotoCast browsing through the files! I have all the settings allowed, it's on a clear port.I gave up and removed my SD card and manually loaded movies and music onto the card, and popped it back into the phone, it was much quicker than waiting on MotoCast's 10 seconds of connect time every time I reset it.

I also find that trying to rearrange a playlist gets buggy after a couple songs. Why is it designed to rewrite the whole 5(ish)kb that is the song to a new location rather than just relink to it? For every OTHER application, a playlist is a series of links that point to your songs. What it is NOT is a physical arrangement of those songs. Why is my phone's playlist a physical arrangement of those songs?

Motorola Atrix 2 :: WIFI Network Won'tn Stay Connected

Jan 27, 2013

My wife and I have identical ATRIX 2 phones just over a year old.  Always has been some strange things happening staying connected to wifi network but that finally corrected itself on both phones

After ICS update in November i have to toggle Airplane mode on and off to get wifi connection back after a period of not useing it on my phone .

My wife was reluctant to update hers when I did as she doesn't like change.  However over time her phone kept droping wifi  network connection. I would have to power it down and remove battery and sim card  to get it to stay on wif for a few days.  Finaly that was no longer a fix.   I went to a AT&T hotspot and downloaded the latest ICS update.on her phone   No matter what I do it will connect to our network wifi  and bring in mail etc for about ten seconds then the singal bars change from white to blue,  The settings menue shows wifi still  on blue connected but the signal bars shows blue.  Her data use would indicate it is indee using cingular data.

BB Curve 8300 :: Have 4.5.0.77 And A Number Of Apps Are Failing To Stay Connected

Feb 19, 2009

I have 4.5.0.77 and a number of apps are failing to stay connected. They will all connect very briefly and then cite an unexpected internal err. They all will then disconnect. The only exception to this is VNCen which throws an exception: "java.io.IOException:" Bad socket id

Browser, email, gmail app, bbim all work.

After researching this, and following due diligence I deleted all the service books and resent them to no avail. Then (for hardware failure) I replaced the device. Once the initial service books were in place, I tried again, and again, no success. Tried again after a wipe/hard reset. No success.

I contacted VZW tech support to insure provisioning was correct. It is. They are unable to assist any further.

The following is a list of the apps that are failing:
VNCen 1.0
BBTran 1.5
RDM+ 3.7.7
MobileFileManager 2.5.36
AOL Instant Messenger 2.1.41 (from the blackberry site)

One thing I think is important to note is that I think they all connect at least for a short period of time. For example MobileFileManager has a FTP client and it will create a connection to my FTP server, I can see it in the log. VNCen will actually display my pc desktop for a little bit before it croaks. AIM begins to tease me with my buddy list before it withers. All the apps point to some unhanded exception. Sun.com seems to shed some light:

Which seems to say that perhaps there is an issue with a proxy, but if that's the case, why the duce did it connect in the first place?

I am at my wit's end.

At this point, I've had the phone since the 11th, and I'm planning on returning the phone if it will not allow me to geek out sufficiently.

IPhone :: 4 Use Be Connected To WiFi And Still Be Connected To 3G Network At The Same Time?

Apr 19, 2012

My iPhone is on the Bell network, along with 3 other iPhones in my household. We have WiFi and the phone indicate that they are connected to the WiFi when we are in the house. However, my bill from Bell indicates several instances where the phones (all 4 at different times) are connected to the 3G network for 24+ hours at a time. Additionally, it shows the phone connected twice during that time period (as though there were 2 different sessions at exactly the same time, but with differing amount of data connected)

The explaination that Bell gives me is that there are 'minimized' applications still working on 3G even though the phone says it is on WiFi, and that each of these opens its own 'connection'My understanding of cell technology is that the phone can only access one method of Internet connectivity at a time, and that it can be explained as a 'pipe' or 'straw' carrying connectivity and all of the data. I have never heard of a phone that can access two different types at the same time, nor one that uses separate 'sessions' at the same time of either type of connectivity.

I would assume that I turn on my phone in the morning and I am in my house, it indicates WiFi, so I can browse the web, collect my email and update my Facebook on that 'session' that lasts 4 hours until I leave the house. Now my 3G kicks in and the email that I still have open now collects through the opened 3G session, as well as the page I left open downloading something. When I get to work and enter my WiFi area there, the session would then collect my email through WiFi again, and my download as well.

BB Bold 9000 :: Standby Mode - Voice Dial Key - Permanent Standby

Feb 10, 2009

I've found a very annoying bug with the Blackberry Bold that hasn't been addressed in any of the firmware updates that I've seen to date.  I've been able to repeat the bug with several Bold devices that I've had an opportunity to use.  I didn't know how to report the bug directly to RIM, so I thought I'd put it up here in hope that somebody at RIM may see it and pass it on to somebody that's responsible for the Bold's software.

Under the right circumstances, the Blackberry Bold will enter standby mode, and will never exit it without resetting the unit by pulling the battery or hitting alt-right shift-del.  If the voice dial button (left convenience key) is pressed just as the unit is entering stand-by mode, and then the voice dial feature starts and times out, the unit does not crash, but is effectively useless.  Hitting the mute/standby key does not do anything, and neither does any other key on the keyboard.  Holding the red hangup key will cause the device to shutdown, but if you turn on the unit again without resetting it, the keyboard will still be disabled (you'll be prompted for the SIM card's PIN, but won't be able to enter it).

Step-by-step procedure to recreate the bug:

- Make sure the left standby key is in its default setting (voice dial)
- Hold down the mute key to put the unit into standby mode
- As soon as the "Entering standby mode" window pops up, hold down the left convenience key
- When voice dial starts up, don't say anything at the voice dial prompts
- When voice dial times out and exits, you'll find that the unit is permanently in standby mode, and the keyboard is completely useless, regardless of how much you press the mute/standby button to try to exit standby mode.
- Only way I've found to get out of this is to pull the battery or to reset the unit with alt-right shift-del

I keep my Bold in my back pocket, and find that the left convenience key gets hit by accident when I put my phone away (after hitting standby) -- this bug was affecting me several times a week! Very annoying.  I've had to disable the left convenience key to get avoid this issue.

BB Storm :: Screen Unlocks In Standby Or Exiting Standby?

Jul 6, 2009

Storm recently upgraded to version 4.7.0.148

Before the upgrade I locked the screen by pushing the button on top before putting it in holster/standby. When I took it out of the holster I had to push the button again to release the screen. Which was fine and what I wanted.

Since the upgrade, about half the time the screen is either already unlocked or unlocks itself when I take it out. I can't determine that I'm touching anything else in particular and it's not in conjunction with a phone call or email message. What I'm concerned about is whether it's somehow unlocking itself while in standby -- which doesn't seem good.

In researching on the board, I found this quote in an upgrade notice by Xandrex, referring to fixes in 148.  "Password-disabled devices will not exit standby mode unless the lock key is pressed to unlock the device" That sounds like other people had trouble with the previous versions coming out of the unlock -- but I didn't have the problem under the previous version.

I realize I could set a password but don't really want to do that if I can avoid it. I have had to pull the battery and reset it since the upgrade but that didn't affect this behavior.
