What is the point of a digital zoom? How is it different than just cropping the image down and enlarging it, since the zoom actually adds no visual acuity to the picture, it's basically just performing a photoshop enlarge.
View 5 RepliesIt was just announced that the IPhone 4 will have zoom for the camera, but will this be real optical zoom, or will it simply be "digital" zoom? Digital zoom is so stupid - I can duplicate the effect of digital zoom by cropping the photo with photoshop afterward. Not only is digital zoom in effect the same a cropping a photo, but because the photo was cropped from the get-go, you have LOST information that you might have wanted. What if you "zoomed in" and took the picture, but mistakenly chopped off the top of your subject's head? That portion of the head was actually being perceived by the camera's sensor, so you could have had a complete photo, but it is now lost forever thanks to digital zoom.

With Yari, I am able to zoom-in & zoom-out even at 5 MP. Could somebody please let me know why the same is not possible with Elm?
The current firmware version on my Elm is "R7BA076" and camera software version is "3.8". If I upgrade it to "R7CA06" with camera version "3.9", would I be able to zoom-in & zoom-out at 5 MP?

It seems to have occurred recently and am wondering if it is related to the recent Nokia camera/beta camera updates. I'm running 8.1 DP but I don't believe I was having this issue before and I don't believe I have had any recent big falls or jolts to the phone that might cause mechanical problems and I believe the zoom works fine in still pictures.

I have the Apple Digital AV adapter to connect my 4S to the TV via HDMI. It's ok for watching videos or anything not needing input. I'd really like to use it for mirroring games onto the TV but the cable is so short, the adapter gets in the way and is always falling out and it can't be good for the iPhone or the AV adapter. I hoped I might be able to use dock connector extender cable and have tried three so far, all of which say they carry, video, data and charge (17 core) but none have worked so far. Is what I want to do impossible or is there a cable out there which will do the job? Do Apple make such a cable?

The digital av adapter worked perfectly for 3 days then when the iphone 4s was shut off and restarted I began to get "this device not supported by iphone", messages and it has completely stopped working. The point where the USB cable is attached to the pin on phone, the plastic sleeve gets cracked. I have two such charger cables that have gone bad and the inner wire is exposed. I am facing a risk of short circuit. Having approached the service station, they refused to cover it under warranty. I was surprised as they labeled it as 'Physical damage' and not 'poor quality material used to make cable'. The cables I use for other phones and computers have not cracked under similar usage. More than having to pay for a new cable, I am utterly disappointed with the service of Apple, which is acutally a surprise to me. I buy Apple products for their unmatched quality, and unparalled customer care. With this incident, both have faltered in my mind.

For the time being I am using Openstreetmap images for the custom map app.Now what I want is to convert the pixel point to Latitude and Longitude value at a particular zoom level.
