I have recently bought an Xperia Ray. The problem with the phone is that sometimes it just freezes when I try to take a photo or use the digital zoom on the camera. I have to take out the battery to start the phone. I have already restored the phone once, to see if the problem will go away, but it hasn't.

View 8 Replies View RelatedIt was just announced that the IPhone 4 will have zoom for the camera, but will this be real optical zoom, or will it simply be "digital" zoom? Digital zoom is so stupid - I can duplicate the effect of digital zoom by cropping the photo with photoshop afterward. Not only is digital zoom in effect the same a cropping a photo, but because the photo was cropped from the get-go, you have LOST information that you might have wanted. What if you "zoomed in" and took the picture, but mistakenly chopped off the top of your subject's head? That portion of the head was actually being perceived by the camera's sensor, so you could have had a complete photo, but it is now lost forever thanks to digital zoom.

This happens whether I'm in auto, beauty face or panorama. I cannot find a setting that controls this. I've had the phone for about two months and could swear this had not been a problem initially. View 1 Replies View RelatedI experienced freezing while shooting HDR+ after the initial update, but after un/reinstalling the Google Camera, it seemed fine for a couple of weeks, but the problem has returned with a vengeance. I cannot shoot anything in HDR+ without the camera and phone freezing.
Regular photos snap fine, but when shooting HDR+, the progress indicated gets to about 2 o'clock and then image totally freezes. After a few seconds, it will close and pop up a crash box offering to report or acknowledge with OK. (I've reported it.) Sometimes it will put up a notification that "HDR+ photos are processing in the background, but if you tap that it takes you into the Photos app and there's nothing there and then the whole phone freezes. Yesterday, I noticed the GPS stuck on (was in a basement) at the same time and had to reboot the phone.
I un/reinstalled the update again yesterday and HDR+ worked for a couple of shots, but today it froze again. This is clearly an unacceptable way to manage the problem. I'm tired of missing pictures because the camera app crashes. I was at a major event last week and had Camera crash on launch for the first time. Fortunately, I was able to quickly reboot before snapping a group shot, but if I hadn't noticed beforehand, I would've had a crowd looking at me while I frantically restarted my phone because of a buggy basic app.
Rooted, stock Nexus 5, Android 4.4.2, faux123 kernel (to try and fight the terrible battery life), no GravityBox things which I've seen mentioned as possible causes.
What is the point of a digital zoom? How is it different than just cropping the image down and enlarging it, since the zoom actually adds no visual acuity to the picture, it's basically just performing a photoshop enlarge.

With Yari, I am able to zoom-in & zoom-out even at 5 MP. Could somebody please let me know why the same is not possible with Elm?
The current firmware version on my Elm is "R7BA076" and camera software version is "3.8". If I upgrade it to "R7CA06" with camera version "3.9", would I be able to zoom-in & zoom-out at 5 MP?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been having real problems with the picture quality when you take pictures of documents. As I am a student, this is quite a big deal for me. Whenever I take pictures of like notes and stuff (in the document mode), the quality is great, but when it comes to zooming in, the pixels don't clear up at all, they remain blurry, so in the end the document mode is a complete useless tool! I have seen other phones like the Iphone 4 or the blackberry torch have great quality even when zoomed in, the pixels clear up. I thought sony was known for its camera!

My camera seems to have corrupted autofocus functionality "it seems to be locked on infinity and I cannot focus on any object. I know that autofocusing should normally be triggered by long-tapping camera button in the default application, but it never happens". I always get red focusing mark and a blurry photo.
This behavior is observed on both 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 with default application, Camera ZOOM Ex, Camera 360 and lgCamera. I tried every focusing setting (auto, infinity, macro), but no luck. I also tried to clear application data for Camera app, but it didn't give any results either.
I opened service menu > service tests > camera, and after tapping on screen I got a message: 'Autofocus failed, taking picture anyway'.
Here's an example of my photo: As you can see, it is of quite poor quality. It was taken from approximately 25-30 cm above surface, with 'Macro' focus settings and other settings in default state.
My front camera keeps taking pictures with 2 lines in the corner. You can see it when the camera is on, and it shows up in every single picture. I've cleaned the front camera, checked for scratches/cracks but can't see anything.

It does not matter if I use the phone, or it's lying on the table. If I'm using software, or not.
I slept an hour this afternoon, it had taken roughly 50 pictures during 25 minutes, 10 during one random minute, then 1 picture 5 minutes later, so it doesen't seem to be any system behind it.
My z2 has a camera problem. initially worked fine , then stopped taking photos - they show as broken files and can't be opened. I factory reset the phone and the camera worked for one day. it then stopped taking photos - when you take a pic, it shows the little orange circle going round and round , but then doesn't store the photo. Yesterday I cleared the cache and this appeared to make it work. The camera now takes photos, but I cannot message or bluetooth them - just says could not add item. I tried to transfer them to my computer , via usb and they all show as broken files , but with the .jpg extension , so not the lost.dir problem. Any better camera to download thru playstore that works well ...
