IPhone :: Store Employees Give Stock Updates

When I bought my original iPhone from an AT&T store, a little while before release time, an employee came out and talked to the 20 or so of us waiting outside. She said "it looks like we have enough phones in stock for everyone in line now" or something like that. I'm wondering, for those who have waited in Apple Store lines, do they do the same thing? I'm sure there will be many more than 20 people in line, but I would hate to be #93, only to find out hours later that they only had 90 phones in stock for walk-ins.
