IPhone :: Spotlight / IMessage Search Function Stopped Working
Apr 14, 2012
For some reason, my Spotlight Search function stopped working sometime yesterday afternoon. So did the Search function on my iMessage. But the Search function on others e.g., Calendar seem fine.
When I try to do a Spotlight search on my iPhone 4s, it freezes as I'm typing the letters of what I'm trying to search. This started after the upgrade to ios 5.1.
I have been reading a thread about spotlight not working until people updated to 5.1. Well, I have the reverse problem. I updated to 5.1 a few days ago, and now I can search for everything EXCEPT words that begin with H or N. When I try that, the enlarged letters on the keyboard freeze for 10 seconds, then disappear. Although the N or H appears in the search screen, no search results appear. I have tried shutting off various programs but that does not help.
On my iPhone 4S running iOS 5.1.1, when I try to type in a string in a spotlight search using the soft keyboard, the device freezes for about 5 to 8 seconds before resuming. Usually this happens when as I am typing the search string out.
Since iOS8.1, spotlight search no longer seems to be able to find apps on my device.I have 450 apps, and have used spotlight search since it was first introduced to find apps buried in directories on various home screens. I've tried turning off all other areas spotlight search can search, leaving only applications, yet that doesn't work. Most recent iOS8.1.2 update still has this issue.
The phone was bought from the apple store unlocked, it's been almost 6 months. I download an upgrade that is supposed to fix bugs, and I loose the main phone function ? this product is a joke or what ? apple must be aware of this....
my history function of safari stopped working since when I tried to turn on wifi in johnlewis store this afternoon. last 2dayes of history has been removed and the bars which you can see on top and bottom of the screen when you use Internet turn to black as well.
The phone function of my 4G iPhone with ios7 suddenly stopped working. I cannot call out or receive calls. The speaker works, and I am not in airplane mode. I am connected to Wifi internet. I called my iphone from my land line and it took a voice mail but the phone does not show that i have a v/m message.
Imessage stopped working when download 5.1. Tried turning off and on restarting flashing nothing works. People don't get my texts so had to turn iMessage off completely
My iMessage has stopped working on my iPhone 5s, but only with ONE person. I have reset it multiple times, i reset the network, and I reset all the setting on the phone. I'm quite confused and need to know what's going on.   Â
Yesterday, my iMessages suddenly stopped working (this is how I contact many friends and family). It is partially working - it sends messages from my "appleid" which is my college e-mail address that I no longer have access to, and many people I communicate with do not have. How can I get it to send/recieve iMessages using my phone number again? Â
When I go into Messages, and iMessage, and type in my id, it says "waiting for activation". In the meantime, I can still send/recieve messages using my email, but not my phone number. I have tried rebooting my phone, resetting network settings, resetting all settings, and nothing seems to work. I am constantly connected through wifi, and I cannot figure out the issue.Â
I was showing a friend how to activate his email address in imessage and set his caller ID to his itunes email so that he could receive messages both on his iphone and ipad. And now imessage has stopped working. Orange (his carrier) is now sending us emails about our "multimedia message". Imessage was working when it was set just to his phone number.
Up until a couple of weeks ago it worked fine. now it will only send regular text messages. I have a good wifi and/or 3G connection, the receiver has an iphone, switched it on-off in the settings and I triend to reset my apple ID.
When I seach informations in contact lists with spotligh (Ex.: Address, Notes, etc.... ), it only show results of the contacts principal header, and not of the other camps (notes, address, etc...).
How to search in "spotlight" details in contacts, with base in another camps, how "notes", "address", and others?
I love the camera on my phone, and constantly use the focus function with the trackpad. It suddenly stopped working - and I cant figure out why. Went through all the options, did a reboot, removed the battery etc - same result. The trackpad works on the bottom menu items, but it used to be that I could use it to focus in and out (up and down).
When I got my E5 I could start typing a name of a contact and the search worked nicely. But now nothing happens as I type - it just shows the text/numbers that I have entered. I'd like to get this back as it's a really nice feature. Is there something I should be turning on/off to get this to work?
Today the Home, Back and Search buttons stopped working in my Lumia 900. They don't work at all now. Zune says the software is up to date. I even tried a Hard Reset on it, but it didn't help.I tried once to boot without SIM card, and it seemed to help -- but only for a while after which the issue reappeared. Now I've been rebooting the phone a million times with and without SIM card and not seen the buttons working at all. Is it a HW failure?
Spotlight for me is an important way to get to contacts and applications on my iPhone and iPad. With the latest iOS 8.1.1 release, the spotlight feature on my iPhone stopped working completely and the only way to get it to work was rebooting the phone. Even after that it only worked for half an hour (tops)!! My iPad on the other hand had no issues at all.Â
After going through a lot of forums, I limited my spotlight search to contacts and applications and reboote my phone. The problem seems to have gone away and I can finally work my phone with ease.Â
Give this a try until Apple get their act together and roll out iOS 8.1.2.Â
P.S - Restarting your iPhone or your iPad is NECESSARY after you've limited your options in the spotlight menu.Â
P.S.S - I'm not sure if this will work for those with the same issue on their iPads but it's worth a try
I have lost the search function - the little magnifying glass in my itunes. It also says I have no purchase history - which I have. I have checked the restrictions and all is ok there. Not sure how to go about buying music off my phone without the search facility.Â
I've just changed my N79 for an N86. my N79 had a useful search function in the main menu, which enabled me to search through the phone for particular files etc.As far as i was aware, the N86 also had this, as i noticed it on a couple of internet reviews. However, it's not on the phone.i thought it might be in applications> office or in tools, but it's not there. Does anyone know why and if you can download it?
Am I the only one around who misses the search function in messaging? Upgrading from HTC one I thought this is obvious function which should be included.
I became the proud owner of a G3 about a week or so ago and there is just one gripe I have with it..why is it not recognizing my bluetooth headphones? Pretty sure I'm doing everything correctly that I did with the last phone I had (Alcatel One Touch Evolve). Am I the only one with this issue? Pardon me if a similar thread has already been posted, couldn't find the search function on the mobile version of this site (either that or it's right in front of my face) , anyway, if a similar thread has been posted, just post the link or whatever and I'll go from there.
After using a Bluetooth headset, all phone audio & microphones have stopped working. Bluetooth is off and even with a wired headset or speaker, I cannot hear or be heard on a phone call. Function still not restored after shutdown, reboot, or firmware reinstall.
