My Iphone's speaker doesn't work, it means that there is no ringtone when someone call me, and there is no sound when I play the music. I turn off the mute botton, so there should be sound. How to deal with this?

I have a 9700 that I got back in December, and I have a problem.Just today, my 9700 started exhibiting a strange problem whereby it will not produce ANY sound at all for not only incoming calls, texts, e-mails, etc. but also it won't play any sound if a play an mp3.I've done numerous OS reloads, tried different versions of OS, but nothing.
What I have found, though, is that if I push in on the screen slightly, it will produce sound. Why is this? Has anyone experienced a similar issue?

All other sounds work flawlessly, music plays, keyboard clicks away and voicemail, and text alerts come through, it's just the ringer that's problematic.

This happens with no error message or notification. The phone think it's playing media and allows me to adjust the media volume but there's no sound (speaker or earphones). I've made and received several calls with my new iPhone 4 since getting it yesterday morning, however I was using my headset. Now, just this evening I got two calls when I didn't have my headset on and both times I had bad sound quality from the phone itself. I recently downloaded the update for the new software and all was well then suddenly my speaker phone stopped working. As well as my speaker phone the audio output of the speaker itself does not put out any noise. I checked the silent mode switch on the side of the phone as well as the sound settings and all looks as it did when things were working.
