IPhone :: How To: IOS 4 Tethering Without Commcenter Patch
Aug 4, 2010
Cirdan on the Dev-Team's irc channel has developed instructions for enabling tethering in iOS 4.0.x without any commcenter patch. It requires editing some files manually, but it works perfectly on my 3GS. I've simplified and clarified them.
Notes:These instructions assume you are on AT&T. They would need to be modified for other carriers. In particular, you would need to use a mobileconfig file for your carrier, and take the type-mask values from that mobileconfig file rather than using the ones I give here. As always, back up all files before editing them. We're still trying to figure out if this can be made to work on the iPhone 4.
1) Install Ultrasn0w 1.0-1.
2) On your computer (NOT your iPhone) download the Peaceful Insanity tethering mobileconfig.
3) Email the file Tether.mobileconfig you downloaded in step two to yourself.
4) On your phone:Install this tethering profile from Mail. (Please note: MobileSafari will no longer allow you to install a mobileconfig file. It must be done from Mail.)
5) On your phone, in the file /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.apple.MobileInternetSharing.plist, locate the following text:
Code:
<key>State</key>
<integer>1020</integer>
and change it to read:
Code:
<key>State</key>
<integer>1023</integer>
6) In the file /private/var/Managed Preferences/mobile/com.apple.managedCarrier.plist, locate the following text:
Code:
<key>apn></key>
<string>wap.cingular</string>
and add the following text immediately after it:
Code:
<key>type-mask</key>
<integer>53</integer>
7) In that same file, locate the following text:
Code:
<key>apn</key>
<string>acds.voicemail</string>
and add the following text immediately after it:
Code:
<key>type-mask</key>
<integer>2</integer>
8) In the file /private/var/preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist, locate the following text (be careful!):
Code:
<dict>
<key>AllowNoDNS</key>
<integer>1</integer>
<key>apn</key>
<string>wap.cingular</string>
and add the following text immediately after it:
Code:
<key>type-mask</key>
<integer>53</integer>
9) Reboot your phone and tethering will be on!
I read about apps that allow tethering of other devices without the additional tethering plans... foxfi was one that was suggested... however, I don't think it is working on the S6. Any app that works?
I've recently noticed a radius of brighter pixels on the top right part of my iPhone 4. I think this is known as 'dead pixels'. it covers quite a patch of the top right corner of the screen. When I put pressure on the patch, it makes a jelly puddle momentum, just like when you put pressure of a laptop screen, you get that jelly puddle. Just to confirm, is it dead pixels that I've got? or would dead pixels black out on the screen and be unreadable when you touch in that area?
Having major issues with my Iphone Apps after latest patch. Is there anything I can do to get my iPhone applications to install? Everything seems frozen. I have done many system resets and nothing has worked?
I have been using my phone all day with no issues however when I got home and went for a shower and came back the screen had a white patch on the bottom half making the touch screen unusable.Â
The home button, power button and sound button work fine, I have tried turning the phone on and off again and I have done a 'hard rest' I have even plugged it into the computer and done a back up and update. None of which worked and after the update the screen was completely unusable.Â
I have never dropped my phone or damaged it in anyway.
Has anyone had any luck doing this without a tethering plan? I have a brand new Imac with Snow Leopard 10.6 and just picked up the Bold 9700 through At&t.
I put my Blackberry 8520 into repair because the scroller broke for the 3rd time. Anyway, I got it back yesterday and it works fine except there is a very small patch in the middle of my screen. It's not noticeable when I'm on my home screen, photos etc. only on the black screen when you lock your phone. However it is still there because whenever I apply pressure to the corners of my screen or even the spot it moves around And I see it moving. It gets bigger and moves when I touch it but then goes straight back to the same size as before and back to the middle When I let go. My friend suggested water was in it but I don't think so. It doesnt bother me that much only when its on my black screen.
i have been searching for a thread for raider osd patching but i could not find any and i don't know where to put those .vkp files..i could not use the FarManager+jdflusher because there's an error that says setdirectory something like that (i don't know why)so i can't access the bflash.
I recently upgraded from a Legend (2.2) to the Incredible S (2.2.1). I was able.to.input Hong Kong Chinese characters (HKSCS) using Touch Input on the Legend but can no longer do so on the Incredible S. Anyone know of a patch or update that restore HK characters?
Hello guys, i am using C901 with light sensor turned off patch: ;C901 SW-R1GA028 ;Turn off the light sensor ;v. 1 ;(c) IronMaster ;(p) Xamid ;pAtChFiLe=/boot/phone_app.cxc 14140540: 0088 FF20 But the problem is that the keypad backlight is VERY dim (almost off) all the time with it. I tried to modify it a bit and used the value 0008. The result is that the light sensor is off, keypad backlight is turned on but at the cost of screen brightness which is low even at 100% brightness. So can anyone give an optimal value for this patch which turns off light sensor, turns on keypad backlight and keeps screen brightness to max (more or less)? Thanks [ This Message was edited by: killerPK on 2010-08-21 23:49 ]T610 > K700 > K750 > W810 > K800 > K810 > KU990 > K850 > U600 > KF750 > 6120C > G800 > C905 > N82 > 1202 > 6220 > Satio > C901
Is there a patch to disable joystick and just use the keypad to navigate menus, phonebook, messages, gallery, etc. i read from the other forum that he had a patch to disable joystick ang used his keypad to navigate things on his k750i.
Just got my 5.1.1 patch over air and next time I reboot the device, only Google and Android logos greet me, after that only black screen (but OS boots, because I can take screen shots of the black screen. Only option is to press power long and shut the device down. Cache wipe did not work.
This is the response I just received back from AE at VZW on twitter. Looks there is hope for us after all. Hang in there as I am also with some issues.
VZW Support Twitter response: There are updates in the testing phase by VZW and others Motorola is still investigating. A patch should be released soon.
I downloaded ImgTool Db2020 with a graphics mod for my K770, but I need some help with replacing the pictures and applying the patch. If I have time tomorrow, I'll upload the pack. Until then, any queries or helpful thoughts?
I have a rooted N5 and im running 6.0 build MRA58K and continue to get prompted to install a security update. My question is, is it safe to install this update, will i lose root or have to reroot? If i "unroot" the system with supersu and then install it after, would that work too? Also i would like to update my kernel to the newest version. Im running blu_spark build #30. Would i just reflash the kernel or do i have to jump through hoops by reflashing the rom first? I dont remember how it works.
I have been facing low memory issues and a lot of applications wont work. Is there a software patch that can detect temporary files and delete them from E72?
I've searched for a remove-java-security-popups patch for K610, but can't find one. Does anyone have on lying around? I currently have a remove-java patch for W800 and K800. If you have one for other SE models, please send to mr_lou (at) vip dot cybercity dot dk or attach here.
Chase mobile banking no longer functions after 4.1.83 patch. I get Error message unable to log in at this time. Still works for iphone and ipad. This has been confirmed by others on android central?
I recently bought a Nexus 5 and it has a dark patch on the screen. This is visible only when the phone is in a locked state. Initially i thought it was dust but the patch stayed on. I have attached the image...
I'm the proud owner of a brand spanking new /white/ iPhone 3GS. I moved to AT&T from VZW and a droid (this phone is MILES ahead of android in terms of OS usability especially since I have a Mac, the syncing is seamless).
I got really lucky and the phone was a 3.1.2 (bought it a few days ago) so I was able to JB (tethered). I started playing around and tried out MyWi for the wifi tethering and it worked awesomely with my MacBook.
Here's my question:
I noticed that under settings>general>network, I have an internet tethering option that uses USB or Bluetooth. Is this a hack that was enabled inadvertently through something I did in the jailbreak process, or is this an AT&T feature that I will be charged extra for using? I'm curious because this seems like a cleaner approach since it's built into the OS.
I have had this irritating problem since I tried "MyWi" on my Iphone. The tethering bar at the top (just below the statusbar) won't go away. Even if I delete the application and restart my Iphone or if I reinstall it and then delete it and restart my Iphone it won't disappear. As soon as I turn my 3G or Wifi on and the phone recon that it has internetconnection there's a bar at the top of my screen saying "tethering" (or in rare occasions "xxxkb/s up xxxkb/s doown"). Sometimes when I turn of 3G and/or my Wifi the bar disapears or if I don't use any internetconnections for a while. I also downloaded ifile and deleted everything under "MyWi" under applications (weird that it was still there even after I deleted it via cydia.) I don't want to reinstall my phone
A co worker of mine racked up 2 gigs of data 2 months ago and burned through a blistering 8.6 gigs of data this past month. All of this on his 3Gs and none of it done by tethering with a jailbroken iPhone. He "claims" that he has no clue how it happened but I'm guessing he knows. How many video clips of wholesome family entertainment would he have to download to hit that impossible number. I nearly myself when I saw the bill.
I have an iPhone 3GS (32GB) and it's never been JB, it's running on 3.1.3 OS. I have been trying to set up Tethering but have had no luck , I don't want to JB but will if it's my last option
Since last week my iMac can't recognize my iPhone in Network Preferences, when I plug my iPhone in my macbook the problem is gone, so I tried to reset Network Preferences in iMac and nothing changed I also tried coping Network Preferences from my macbook -since tethering is working fine there- and nothing changed.

USB tethering with my iPhone 4S has been working fine until recently but its started to hang on pages every so often (When tethered to my Mac via USB), or refuse to load them at all. But when I go on my phone to try and load the page, it loads instantly.
I am travelling and am in a hotel that has expensive wireless Internet that works only on one registered device. So, if I register my computer, I cannot also use my iPhone or iPad, even if the MBP is off. Does the iPhone allow tethering while on Wi-Fi, not on 3G? In other words, if I register my iPhone for Wi-Fi Internet access with the hotel, would I be able to use it as a 'Personal Hotspot' to get Internet access on the MBP and iPad? Secoond question. If the iPhone is locked to my provider in Canada (Rogers), does this means taht the 3G data is also locked, or is it only the voice/SMS features that are locked?
