USB tethering with my iPhone 4S has been working fine until recently but its started to hang on pages every so often (When tethered to my Mac via USB), or refuse to load them at all. But when I go on my phone to try and load the page, it loads instantly.
I read about apps that allow tethering of other devices without the additional tethering plans... foxfi was one that was suggested... however, I don't think it is working on the S6. Any app that works?
Has anyone had any luck doing this without a tethering plan? I have a brand new Imac with Snow Leopard 10.6 and just picked up the Bold 9700 through At&t.
Only done facetime a few times but last time I wasn't able to figure out how to return to a normal call and ended up hanging up. I'm sure I'm missing something simple, anyone care to point it out for me?
Whenever I'm talking on my phone and I use my shoulder to hold the phone up to my face it seems to lose contact and light up and then I'll move a little bit and hang it up. Before I get a lot of responses that say "just hold onto it with your hand", I never had this problem with my last two older gen phones.
As per a number of other user threads, when I try and hang up calls there is a long delay before call ends. Does the network charge for the time I am waiting for the call to end? Many users making many calls who are unable to end their calls promptly = many additional minutes of revenue to the networks
I tried to download 10 updates on my Iphone. The whole lot are "waiting" and unusable. There are 12 apps to be updated on my Ipad and I know I would be stupid to activate those! The response from Apple is that they can't find my account. They want screen shots - knowing the apps have been deleted.
My iphone was hanging when I switched it off to restart. It never restarted. It is not responding to anything (reboot, recharge, etc., - nothing works). What should I do?
There looks like there's a piece of grey metal hanging almost halfway down past my camera lens behind the glass. I don't know why it's like this. I also have had trouble focusing up close and I think this is the cause. I tried taking a picture of my hands up close and it focuses just fine, yet his doesn't have something hanging down. My friends claimed this this thing hangs down too.
I have oddest question about the IPhone and I don't know if I can explain it right but here goes. When I'm on a call, I sometimes accidentally hangup, put call on hold, activate/deactivate speaker etc. Basically my "face" is in contact with the touch screen as I'm talking and its hitting the "buttons".
I restored 3.1.2 and jailbroke last night was working fine now today it's just staying at downloading packages and it's been like this now for 5 mins and I only have the bare bones of sources in cydia as you would a fresh install, I have restore today about 3 times but it's still just hanging at downloading packages, I have also cancelled the updating and it says it failed to fetch modmyi, bigboss, saurik.com, zodttd and says some index files failed to download.
If I add a source same thing happens, it downloads a couple packages then when the bar fills with blue it stays there saying downloading packages.
My daughter's iphone 3GS (16GB) is not syncing with iTunes. I took off her apps because they kept hanging up when we tried to update them and when I tried to put them back onto the phone, they are not showing up.
I'm the proud owner of a brand spanking new /white/ iPhone 3GS. I moved to AT&T from VZW and a droid (this phone is MILES ahead of android in terms of OS usability especially since I have a Mac, the syncing is seamless).
I got really lucky and the phone was a 3.1.2 (bought it a few days ago) so I was able to JB (tethered). I started playing around and tried out MyWi for the wifi tethering and it worked awesomely with my MacBook.
Here's my question:
I noticed that under settings>general>network, I have an internet tethering option that uses USB or Bluetooth. Is this a hack that was enabled inadvertently through something I did in the jailbreak process, or is this an AT&T feature that I will be charged extra for using? I'm curious because this seems like a cleaner approach since it's built into the OS.
I have had this irritating problem since I tried "MyWi" on my Iphone. The tethering bar at the top (just below the statusbar) won't go away. Even if I delete the application and restart my Iphone or if I reinstall it and then delete it and restart my Iphone it won't disappear. As soon as I turn my 3G or Wifi on and the phone recon that it has internetconnection there's a bar at the top of my screen saying "tethering" (or in rare occasions "xxxkb/s up xxxkb/s doown"). Sometimes when I turn of 3G and/or my Wifi the bar disapears or if I don't use any internetconnections for a while. I also downloaded ifile and deleted everything under "MyWi" under applications (weird that it was still there even after I deleted it via cydia.) I don't want to reinstall my phone
A co worker of mine racked up 2 gigs of data 2 months ago and burned through a blistering 8.6 gigs of data this past month. All of this on his 3Gs and none of it done by tethering with a jailbroken iPhone. He "claims" that he has no clue how it happened but I'm guessing he knows. How many video clips of wholesome family entertainment would he have to download to hit that impossible number. I nearly myself when I saw the bill.
I have an iPhone 3GS (32GB) and it's never been JB, it's running on 3.1.3 OS. I have been trying to set up Tethering but have had no luck , I don't want to JB but will if it's my last option
Since last week my iMac can't recognize my iPhone in Network Preferences, when I plug my iPhone in my macbook the problem is gone, so I tried to reset Network Preferences in iMac and nothing changed I also tried coping Network Preferences from my macbook -since tethering is working fine there- and nothing changed.

I am travelling and am in a hotel that has expensive wireless Internet that works only on one registered device. So, if I register my computer, I cannot also use my iPhone or iPad, even if the MBP is off. Does the iPhone allow tethering while on Wi-Fi, not on 3G? In other words, if I register my iPhone for Wi-Fi Internet access with the hotel, would I be able to use it as a 'Personal Hotspot' to get Internet access on the MBP and iPad? Secoond question. If the iPhone is locked to my provider in Canada (Rogers), does this means taht the 3G data is also locked, or is it only the voice/SMS features that are locked?
how to share internet connection from pc to iphone by using USB cable? It is called reverse tethering I guess. I heard that it was implemented in iphone 3G/3GS and apple removed the feature.I heard the rumors that is because apple wants people to use iphone as the primary device and computer as secondary device. For the people like me, we really need reversed tethering because working with desktop computers and Ethernet cable is the only option to internet and those desktops don't have wifi.
Anyone figured out a way to do this yet? I was thinking about MiWi but rock app last time screwed up my iPhone pretty badly. Is there a way to obtain this through cydia?
I'm still on 3G on 3.1.2 with BenM.at AT&T profile, so i can tether. My question is would it be possible to upgrade/unlock to iPhone 4.0 and then able to tether without having to pay extra to AT&T by installing old fashion way? (3.0 to 3.1.3).
i don't tether often, but it comes in handy every now and then like when you go on a vacation, etc. i also noticed with 4.0, the T-mobile users are using cydia to get MMS/Tethering work for them. any chance that will work will AT&T too? and YES i know about MyWi, but im trying to avoid the $20 fee =/ and I've also read that you can download the MyWi and deleting trick, but that would require you to download MyWi again every now and then i believe.
Cirdan on the Dev-Team's irc channel has developed instructions for enabling tethering in iOS 4.0.x without any commcenter patch. It requires editing some files manually, but it works perfectly on my 3GS. I've simplified and clarified them.
Notes:These instructions assume you are on AT&T. They would need to be modified for other carriers. In particular, you would need to use a mobileconfig file for your carrier, and take the type-mask values from that mobileconfig file rather than using the ones I give here. As always, back up all files before editing them. We're still trying to figure out if this can be made to work on the iPhone 4.
1) Install Ultrasn0w 1.0-1.
2) On your computer (NOT your iPhone) download the Peaceful Insanity tethering mobileconfig.
3) Email the file Tether.mobileconfig you downloaded in step two to yourself.
4) On your phone:Install this tethering profile from Mail. (Please note: MobileSafari will no longer allow you to install a mobileconfig file. It must be done from Mail.)
5) On your phone, in the file /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.apple.MobileInternetSharing.plist, locate the following text:
Code: <key>State</key> <integer>1020</integer> and change it to read:
Code: <key>State</key> <integer>1023</integer> 6) In the file /private/var/Managed Preferences/mobile/com.apple.managedCarrier.plist, locate the following text:
Code: <key>apn></key> <string>wap.cingular</string> and add the following text immediately after it:
Code: <key>type-mask</key> <integer>53</integer> 7) In that same file, locate the following text:
Code: <key>apn</key> <string>acds.voicemail</string> and add the following text immediately after it:
Code: <key>type-mask</key> <integer>2</integer> 8) In the file /private/var/preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist, locate the following text (be careful!):
Code: <dict> <key>AllowNoDNS</key> <integer>1</integer> <key>apn</key> <string>wap.cingular</string> and add the following text immediately after it:
Code: <key>type-mask</key> <integer>53</integer> 9) Reboot your phone and tethering will be on!
Its still over 2 weeks before the iPad Launches and we already have a solution Very Simple really here is what you need.
1. First you will need a jailbroken iPhone, check jailbreakmatrix.com on howto jailbreak your device 2. You will need to install the Rock Installer when you jailbreak 3. Second head over to Rock Your Phone and sign up for a free account 4. Install MyWi with Rock and start it up
Here you create your Wifi Name, Password and Encryption and then goto your iPad and join the Wifi Connection, No jailbreak no software no nothing required on the iPad
We are located in Canada and know that the iPad 3G is coming with micro Sims which you can't get here yet so don't waste that 6gb data plan you have, and lets put it to use. This way you can also grab it on April 3rd when it launches and don't have to wait for the iPad data plans to be released from the carriers?
When I got my phone all the tethering stuff was in place as normal.. I tried it out on my mac and it worked great.. Then my phone crashed, got it running good to go now.. So the other night I needed internet, go into settings, turn ON tethering.. Open macbook, wait, nothing.. go back into settings on my iPhone and there is no longer anything left even related to tethering.. GONE!
So where did it go and how can I get it back is what I am wondering? 3.1.2j, telus network Canada, originally at&t.
Also, is there a way to force a carrier update? When I got one the first time it didnt show me the cellular data network settings, after the reset of the phone thats there and I had to enter in the information all manually for MMS, internet, etc.friggin problems.. nothing ever wants to work right.
I know this sounds strange but i travel alot and recently hotels sell Internet PER device, so when i get internet on my laptop i cant get it on iPhone or i have to pay for 2nd device, I was thinking is it POSSIBLE to get the internet on my iPhone and tether it with my laptop? this way when i am in my room i can use my laptop and when i am in lobby or at meetings my phone got the internet.
Sorry if this has been posted. I understand that in order to tether, you are supposed to get a tethering plan-as it is with other phones. However, will the tethering option on the phone not be enabled unless I pay for a plan? ie: will I see the option to tether in settings or will I have to enroll in a plan to have AT&T push a new carrier file to me?
I've seen other threads talking about the use of MyWii, but I'd like to know if anybody has native tethering working yet under the following scenario:
- Iphone 3GS (JB with Pwnage) - Bootroom 5.11.07 - Grandfathered AT&T unlimited data plan (or international unlimited data plan) -Pwnage 4.01 - Ultrasn0w (optional)
