My iPhone 3GS is being delivered to my house and I've got a virgin UK sim. I want to weather it will work as people on the net say that it does work and others say it doesn't.. I think that the device is on ios4.3.3 and wanted to see if it would work and also would it work on ios5 n if I ave it a go and it didn't work could I restore it to ios4.3.3...

My phone has been acting up since installing the latest iOS 7.1.1. The back lighting for the screen works intermittetly. I have been able to get it to come back on by turning the phone off and back on, but not every time. Once I enabled VoiceOver through Siri and turned ScreenCurtain On and Off. Other times, just clicking the home button and a few times on a notification that would turn the back lighting on. The phone seems to want to respond to turning the back lighting on, but does not do it every time it should. It usually takes 10 - 30 minutes of me working with it to get it to come back on. The phone has not been dropped and is in an Otterbox case.

hey all been lurking for a while trying to learn as much about jailbreaking and its issues before i took the plunge on my virgin 3gs. the rave reviews about the new spirit jb convinced me, so i did it yesterday and couldnt be happier. it was so easy, in fact it was anti climactic. i was expecting something to go wrong, or some sort of headache but it was so quick and easy. im a windows vista user so i just changed the compatibility mode to win 98 and it went without a hitch. so far ive added lockinfo and im using glaskart theme. cant wait to play around to modding it more. so just wanna say thanks to everyone on this forum, theres a wealth of knowledge here.4.0, who needs 4.0 now?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently received a new blackberry 9300 from virgin to replace my previous phone which was a blackberry 8520.On my previous phone it was shipped with the virgin media logo as the wallpaper and the browser icon was a virgin media emblem but both are not available on the 9300 OS6 update and when I click on the browser I have set virgin today as my homescreen but when I click on the your account icon it comes up with error and says I need to use the virgin media browser which I can't seem to find.Is it possible to download these anywhere?I am also being charged internet usage using the blackberry browser,I get 1gb on my tariff and my allowance has not gone down although I have been using the internet,I spoke to technical support at virgin who told me the OS6 update only has one browser icon but should switch to the correct carrier so I do not get charged but this does not seem to happen,

After an unfortunate incident with a puppy my phone ended up scratched, I do not have insurance so instead I looked for another model. I bought a Blackberry Curve 9300 off Ebay which stated it was unlocked to all networks except 3.
When I received it I put my SIM card in and it came up as Tmobile. I searched for a new network but it shows me all networks (including 3) except for Virgin. Does this mean I wont be able to use my SIM card at all? Or do I just need to take it to be unlocked again?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up my outbound mail on Nolia Messaging with my mail provider, Virgin. I have found that when I synch the mailbox, the previoulsy read mail disappears. Virgin have recommended that the email address is prefixed with Recent: e.g recent:username@virgin.net. The problem with this is that the Virgin SMTP server does not recognise the email address when Recent is added and the outbound emails are not sent. I have tried using the T-Mobile SMTP server settings using the Nokia messaging portall by adding smtp.t-email.co.uk but this is not accepted when adding it into the server details. Anybody got any ideas - I am going crazy and being bounced between Nokia, T-Mobile and Virgin.

When we contacted Virgin, I was told that Virgin 'do not support this feature'! I am awaiting a call from the technical people. If this turns out to be the case, can I install the feature on the phone. It is one of the main reasons for buying the phone.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy Curve 8520 was delivered 7 days ago from Virgin Media UK. I am unable to create a Blackberry account as "my device is not registered with my wireless service provider" . I have gone through the Host Routing table regsiter but still nothing. Virgin's call centre do not allow you to access their Virgin Blackberry help team directly, and in fact claim they can only email them themselves. The call centre say the Blackberries are very popular and I will have to wait 3 days for the Virgin Blackberry team to contact me. I obviously would like to get my 8520 up and running. Do I have to wait for Virgin? Should I draw the conclusion that Virgin are all marketing mouth and no Blackberry trousers?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI took out a contract with Virgin Mobile yesterday for a Blackberry Curve 8520. I chose Virgin as I have had a pay as you go mobile with them for years and wanted to keep my number with a minimum of fuss.
Have to say it has been one of the worst 'out of the box experiences' I've had with any technology recently.
Whilst Virgin's systems say the phone is registered, the Blackberry site say it is not and having held on to Virgin's customer support line for ten minutes or so listening to the Scissor Sisters (aaarghhh!!) I was told that I would need to speak to a Blackberry specialist who would call back with 72 HOURS!?
I've Googled this problem and it shows up on a number of non-Blackberry / Virgin forums. If anyone can put me in touch with someone who can get me up and running I would be grateful. Putting a phone out of action for 72 hours (not sure how the weekend will affect this) is not on.
I have a Curve 8520 with Virgin Mobile. When I look at my Virgin account usage there is a (Call Type=) Blackberry Usage every 15 mins with a zero cost. What is the call being (automatically) made? Can/should I disable it? And how?
As only 60 entries are reported in my account I can only go back 2 days to review genuine calls that I have made because virtually all of the 60 entries are 'blackberry usage'.I must admit I am not familiar with the phone. I did look at Applications (with Options) in case these were the reason but there are none listed.

I've checked all the virginmedia imap/smpt settings and all is fine, my virgin webmail is also fine. Looking at the virgin forums, there are a lot of people with HTC desires saying similar, but no one with blackberries / iphones / Galaxy etc reporting, so I thought it might have something to do with HTC?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am hoping to get some help with a problem I am having with my Virgin Mobile LG Rumor 2.I have found a great website that will allow me to download programs directly to my phone that you cant get on Virgin Mobile's store (Go to http://www.getjar.com)Now, I have down loaded various programs for MSN and Facebook chatting, RSS Programs, however, it seems virgin mobile has restricted 3rd party access to the internet. The programs install fine, they run but as soon as they ask for access to the internet....the program comes to an abrupt halt.
I have heard that giving access through Bitpim is possible, however, bitpim does not fully support the Rumor 2 (see it as CDMA Other). Is there anyway to let 3rd party programs access to the internet on the LG Rumor 2? Is there any "secret access" to the phone that would allow me to change some type od settings?I like the Rumor 2 but am pulling my hair out trying to figure a way to let the programs access the net.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've spent a few days here trying to track down info on encoding video for the Virgin LG Rumor Touch to no avail and have had a break through so I'd like to share what I know so the info is out there to google.. I'm a newby to trying to mess with my cell phones so If anyone has any other info to optimize and improve on this please post!
First of all you'll need FFmpegX or some equivalent program from there the rest was pretty simple. First of all yes, as you may have seen elsewhere you can use a 3gp set up as long as you change the audio settings to AAC but the video resolution is cr*p, but I just wasn't happy with that. So, after trying many of the user preset options on isky software trial I'd discovered that I could get mp4 video to play but was stuck with the watermark on it....but here's the catch.YOU HAVE TO ACCESS YOUR MP4 VIDEOS THROUGH THE TOOLS MENU IN ORDER FOR THE MP4's TO WORK.If you go through the Photo's and video page you'll get and error mesage and it won't read mp4 - I've tried repeatedly, thinking maybe it was just a random error after getting it to play through the back door this way.Now since I had the watermark on the iSkysoft conversion I thought what the heck - let's get open ffmegx and see what we can do.I started with a short video so as not to waste time - and I'll try to dumb this down as I'm kinda dumb when it comes to this stuff too.So first I loaded the ipod h.264 320w preset which I believe uses and h.264 codec if I'm not mistaken.
Under the video tab in the menu I then switched auto size to 4:3 which resets the video size to 320x240 which I believe is the proper size for the Rumor Touch.Then in the drop down menu I selected NTSC (29.97) because it was the horrible res on the 3gp that had me spending the last to days trying to find something better in the first place.Then under the video bitrate calculator on the left just use your cursor to hit "best" which will set the optimal bitrate for the new size.Also I'd be sure to check under the Audio tab menu to be sure that the drop down is set to AAC because that was a playback issue if it wasn't set correctly in iSkysoft - and you may want to reset the audio bit rate to at least 128 cause 96 is a bit low for most audiophiles..After that just hit encode and drop the new vid into the DCIM>100LGDCF folder on your SD card and then acces the video through MAIN MENU>TOOLS>MASS STORAGE>FILE MANAGER>DCIM>100LGCF and hit play!
The one caveat I have here that though I haven't tried to use this setting to encode conversion from Xvid yet I have not been able to get audio to encode from Xvid to ipod conversions in the past so this may or may not be something to be aware of.Figuring out how to get good vid on this thing has improved my happiness with it greatly...Now if someone can just figure out how hack past that da*m Virgin lock out so we can play music in the back ground and load a few games and apps !!!
