I took out a contract with Virgin Mobile yesterday for a Blackberry Curve 8520. I chose Virgin as I have had a pay as you go mobile with them for years and wanted to keep my number with a minimum of fuss.
Have to say it has been one of the worst 'out of the box experiences' I've had with any technology recently.
Whilst Virgin's systems say the phone is registered, the Blackberry site say it is not and having held on to Virgin's customer support line for ten minutes or so listening to the Scissor Sisters (aaarghhh!!) I was told that I would need to speak to a Blackberry specialist who would call back with 72 HOURS!?
I've Googled this problem and it shows up on a number of non-Blackberry / Virgin forums. If anyone can put me in touch with someone who can get me up and running I would be grateful. Putting a phone out of action for 72 hours (not sure how the weekend will affect this) is not on.
I have had my phone for one month (curve 8520) with Virgin Mobile and managed to run up a bill of over £500. I put this on here to warn other Virgin customers to be very careful how they use their phone. There is a 25mb daily allowance for blackberry usage and a 1Gb monthly allowance for internet usage. I cannot understand what the difference is. When I contact Virgin I can check the balance of my internet usage - this never changes. Unbeknown to me I was using blackberry usage which I could not check with my provider. I had the facebook application and the ubertwitter application on the phone. These are now removed. As I understand from Virgin using any applications on my phone will mean using the blackberry usage which will not be enough and therefore I will get charged. Blackberry is marketing these phones to my age group - early 20's and Virgin are advertising it with application use.Has anyone else had this problem? I cannot understand what I can do with my phone or how to use it. Thank you for any advise you can give me.
My Curve 8520 was delivered 7 days ago from Virgin Media UK. I am unable to create a Blackberry account as "my device is not registered with my wireless service provider" . I have gone through the Host Routing table regsiter but still nothing. Virgin's call centre do not allow you to access their Virgin Blackberry help team directly, and in fact claim they can only email them themselves. The call centre say the Blackberries are very popular and I will have to wait 3 days for the Virgin Blackberry team to contact me. I obviously would like to get my 8520 up and running. Do I have to wait for Virgin? Should I draw the conclusion that Virgin are all marketing mouth and no Blackberry trousers?

Need APN,User Name and Password but first I need to find the TCP setting on Virgin Mobile 8530. Anybody know how to find this?Think this might have to do with the streaming problems I'm having with Live 365 and Pandora. And also states this on their sites but I do not see this option via Advanced Options.
I was wondering if I'm able to update my virgin mobile to the sprint final OS instead of the .601.. The .601 takes so long to load and everytime I turn my phone off and back on %5 of the battery disappears... Either it's my battery or the phone. But I just want to know if I could load the sprint OS instead of Virgin mobile. I just got my phone and it came with .601 but me not liking it.
I really want to get VM now because they have the 8530. I would really drop my pre+ for one of them especially since verizon is getting quite expensive. How's the service? Although the $300 are a bit of a pain I'm willing to pay it for a cheaper price service. I would greatly appreciate comments from current 8530 and VM users.
looking into switching from Verizon to VMUSA. I have the tour and really would like the wifi and trackpad instead of the ball. I already own the tether application and was wondering if tethering would work on this carrier?
I read on one of the FAQs on the 8530 on the site that someone said they blocked tethering applications. I was just wondering how they can block a download or if that is even possible.
If anyone has a VM 8530 that is tethering, let me know! If i can't tether, then I dont know if im gonna spend the 300 on the phone.
i downloaded the sky tv app to my n97 on virgin and vodafone and it does not work, i was reading on the net that it will work on every network but not on all phones does any one know when it will be fixed.
I just got a Virgin Mobile iPhone 4S, and while I can make calls and receive texts, I cannot send out texts using SMS. I am able to send via iMessage to other iPhones. I have good strength and am on 3G.
Can anyone help me to manually set up my phone for use in the Virgin Mobile MMS/WAP settings? Virgin Australia don't offer this offer and can't (or won't) provide support. Anyone can help, it's much appreciated!
I was wondering, is there anyway to update the firmware on the Rumor Touch for Virgin Mobile? I sent a email to them, and they said to go to the LG website and it should pop up to update the phone...but all that came up was for tv's and stuff. Nothing cell related.I noticed they took the update firmware option off the VM version, verses the sprint version
Monday i'm going to Paris and i don't like to pay for my blackberry internet when i'm there. Does any of you know how to turn your internet off? So you.don't have to pay for internet when you are in an other country.
I have both Samsung Link R351 with Virgin Mobile and trying to assign my own ringtones.I have bought the cable and were able to put mp3 file inside the phone(i have memory card also).how i can make my mp3 file my ringtone?
I am hoping to get some help with a problem I am having with my Virgin Mobile LG Rumor 2.I have found a great website that will allow me to download programs directly to my phone that you cant get on Virgin Mobile's store (Go to http://www.getjar.com)Now, I have down loaded various programs for MSN and Facebook chatting, RSS Programs, however, it seems virgin mobile has restricted 3rd party access to the internet. The programs install fine, they run but as soon as they ask for access to the internet....the program comes to an abrupt halt.
I have heard that giving access through Bitpim is possible, however, bitpim does not fully support the Rumor 2 (see it as CDMA Other). Is there anyway to let 3rd party programs access to the internet on the LG Rumor 2? Is there any "secret access" to the phone that would allow me to change some type od settings?I like the Rumor 2 but am pulling my hair out trying to figure a way to let the programs access the net.
I was trying to find a post about how to enable downloads on Virgin Mobile's LG rumor touch and I wasn't able to find one so I decided to post my question.Does anybody know a post about this ? or does anyone know how to enable downloads please? I've been trying to download ring tones and I will "NOT" pay $2.50 for a single ringtone from Virgin Mobile I'd rather stay with those the phone itself has already.
Both Verizon and Virgin Mobile (Sprint) has CDMA and CDMA2000 network. If I bought Droid X, can I unlock it, and use it on Virgin Mobile? Because it is much cheaper...
Is there a simple way for me to tell if I am using the wifi network at home? Is the wifi icon on top right corner of browser the indication. I am trying to make my wife feel comfortable that is OK to surf as she wishes while at home.
I spoke to Motorola today. They said it is a sim card issue. I took the phone into the Sprint store they told me I had to call the International department. I called and I was told an e-ticket had to be set up for me to take the phone back to the store and they have to trouble shoot it before they will send out a new phone. WTHeck this is getting ridiculous. This has been going on since September when I got the phone. And now I get this message during calls and it drops the call and I can't place the call again until the error resolves itself.
I cannot receive picture messages direct to my 5610 via Virgin.Settings appear ok but I keep getting the link to Virgin website to get messages and cannot get them direct to the handset.
I just bought an LG Flare from Virgin Mobile, and I have the $25 month plan with unlimited text + web. My goal is to have custom ringtones in the phone. Here's what I've done so far:I went to www.ventones.com and created a free ringtone, and had them send it as a text to my phone, but that text never came.Ventones also gave me a weblink I could point my phone to. So I did that, but upon getting there my phone says "HTTP Error 406: Not Accepted".Now this got me thinking that maybe MP3 files were not supported. But it says on the box that you can have "real music ringtones" (although any format specification is carefully avoided), so maybe I can have music files, just not as plain downloads (must go straight to system ringtone folder). Then I downloaded BitPim. I don't have USB data cable for this yet, but I'm thinking of getting a $3 one from eBay. Meanwhile, I tried connecting it via bluetooth. Now, reports say that the LG Flare was manufactured with built in support for a number of Bluetooth Profiles, including SPP. However, my LG Flare has only HSP and HFP (with only HFP being recognized in Windows, and both HSP and HFP being recognized under Ubuntu).
So naturally I'm thinking that Virgin Mobile has somehow locked down the Bluetooth. While my primary goal is to get custom ringtones, this restriction intrigues me, and I'll be glad if anyone could help me either way. Because the bluetooth is locked down, it is also possible that the data cable won't help any. What I'm looking for are some unlocking mechanisms which can free this restriction. The phone has 8mb of memory! And I want to use it.
I recently received a new blackberry 9300 from virgin to replace my previous phone which was a blackberry 8520.On my previous phone it was shipped with the virgin media logo as the wallpaper and the browser icon was a virgin media emblem but both are not available on the 9300 OS6 update and when I click on the browser I have set virgin today as my homescreen but when I click on the your account icon it comes up with error and says I need to use the virgin media browser which I can't seem to find.Is it possible to download these anywhere?I am also being charged internet usage using the blackberry browser,I get 1gb on my tariff and my allowance has not gone down although I have been using the internet,I spoke to technical support at virgin who told me the OS6 update only has one browser icon but should switch to the correct carrier so I do not get charged but this does not seem to happen,
I have a Blackberry Curve 8520 on contract with Virgin mobile. After an unfortunate incident with a puppy my phone ended up scratched, I do not have insurance so instead I looked for another model. I bought a Blackberry Curve 9300 off Ebay which stated it was unlocked to all networks except 3.
When I received it I put my SIM card in and it came up as Tmobile. I searched for a new network but it shows me all networks (including 3) except for Virgin. Does this mean I wont be able to use my SIM card at all? Or do I just need to take it to be unlocked again?
I have a Curve 8520 with Virgin Mobile. When I look at my Virgin account usage there is a (Call Type=) Blackberry Usage every 15 mins with a zero cost. What is the call being (automatically) made? Can/should I disable it? And how?
As only 60 entries are reported in my account I can only go back 2 days to review genuine calls that I have made because virtually all of the 60 entries are 'blackberry usage'.I must admit I am not familiar with the phone. I did look at Applications (with Options) in case these were the reason but there are none listed.
