Galaxy S5 :: Using USB 3.0 Cable To Connect To USB 2.0 Port

I'm sure the title set off a few noob alarms Everything I've read online says USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0. I recently bought a pair of Anker micro USB 3.0 cables from Amazon UK (can't post a link). When I use these to try to connect my Samsung S5 to my computers, I get mixed results.
On my desktop: plugging into a USB 3.0 port on the motherboard works fine. The USB front panel of my case is USB 2.0 only. Plugging the phone into these ports using the Anker cable results in the phone only charging, Windows does see it. These ports work fine with the phone if I use a micro USB 2.0 cable.
On my laptop, all the ports as USB 2.0. Plugging the phone into the standard ports results in the phone only charging, Linux does mount the phone. However, plug the phone into the yellow "always on" port and my phone is detected.Do I have duff cable, duff phone or there some odd incompatibility here?

I will be in a hotel room that has a ethernet cable but no wifi so I like to connect my phone to the cable to access the internet . I have a USB2 OTG cable and a USB to RJ45 ethernet cable but when I connect it all up and try the web browser, the phone just say that it requires a Wi Fi connection.
I tried rooting the phone but keep getting a fail in Odin.
Version Android is 4.4.2

I have a black E7, and lately I have found that whenever I plug in a cable to the usb port it sits very loose and will not work properly, I think is has to do with the weird shape, it is recatangular but the charge cable and normal microUSB connector.Anyway the problem with the usb connector means the phone won't charge/connecto to the computer unless I;

I have a Motorola Electrify and I was wanting to plug it via USB connection into my Kia Soul. The car comes with an auxilary media port and I had tested it out with my friend's HTC and it charged and played music through the radio. I am connecting a Canon 5D to my laptop trying to use it as a webcam trough camtwist. At the same time I need to output the streaming to a videoprojector.
The cam is connected to the mini display port do there is no port available for the VGA cable anymore. Do I need to use a different port for the projector? Should I buy a video card?
Can't connect the camera via USB as that is too slow and it will freeze.

finally, with USB-2Go, I can find valid reason to upgrade from N70. good pixel camera, ability to browse files from external drive, and HDMI out. Well my question is, is the USB2Go port seperate from the HDMI out port ? If yes, does it mean I can use the N8 to browse my external drive and play video thru my HDTV ? So Nokia N8 can be my full fledged media center, radio player, camera, phone

According to my IT guy I need to get my phone to pull emails out either on port 995 for SSL POP3 or on port 993 for SSL IMAP. My phone errors out when I setup the account through the phone. i bought an iphone 6 but when i connect my iphone to my windows 7 laptop via the usb cable, nothing happens. My iphone doesnt charge or connect to itunes or my computer. But everytime i plug my iphone to computer, i hear the sound that confirms its connected.
Its not the usb cable's fault because i used the same cable to connect my ipod 5 to computer and everything worked normally. My itunes is also up to date. Why my computer knows the iphone is plugged in but doesnt do anything about it?

I just got an S6 and oddly enough, a new computer as well. The computer has USB 3.0 ports on the front panel and USB 2.0 ports on the back. I've discovered that when I plug my phone into the rear ports, the phone starts charging and Windows recognizes the phone as a storage device and opens explorer. However when I plug my phone into any of the front ports, it charges the phone but Windows does not recognize it as a storage device.
I thought USB was supposed to be universal. Shouldn't I be able to use a 3.0 port on a phone and just have it work slower if the device itself is not 3.0 compatible?
