I have a notification always present that says, *Location is set by GPS*. I know that. How do I get rid of the notification? The notification (long press) is from Android UI.

View 24 Replies View Relatedgalaxy s6 system ui turns on location often. I catch it about once every 2 days while on my phone. I long press the searching for gps and it shows "lollipop system UI". I'm guessing that is what is turning on the gps for a few seconds(~10s) every so often. I was wondering if there is a setting so it doesn't do that, because I think it's unnecessary.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using a Sprint S6 and when I turn off Location having it set to wifi and mobile then restart it's on High Accuracy(GPS,Wifi,Mobile). Definitely something to consider when you're toggling that switch because I've noticed some what significant battery lost and it's always scanning on that mode.

Even though the pin is properly positioned on the actual location, the street name and house number are quite a bit off. Did they do this on purpose? The actual street that shows up on the detailed information for the picture is about 2 blocks from my house.

All of a sudden this evening I noticed that when I got to the lockscreen that the GPS icon appeared in my notification bar. When I dragged down the bar it said "finding location" which was unclearable from the notification list. After unlocking the screen, sometimes the GPS icon will go away, and other times it just stays there.
Why it'd randomly start doing this now and never happened before? Any way I can get it to avoid doing that without turning my GPS off? I'm just concerned about it draining my battery life, but don't want to lose the benefits of GPS staying on.
I have a Galaxy s5 with 5.0. I recently had to do a factory reset. Now when I long press a photo from the net the photos do not show up in my gallery. They can be found in the file manager but not in the gallery. Prior to the factory reset it saved directly to the gallery. Photos taken with the camera appear in the gallery but they are the only ones that are displayed in the gallery. What am I missing?

View 20 Replies View RelatedFirst of all, I know a lot of people who only has Location on all the time just for their Weather widgets and apps to refresh your weather information, you don't need your Actual Location to have that, you can simply turn that off on the weather app or widget and enter your city or cities manually, it will give you the same information the only difference is that it will not ping your location all the time to do it.
I have tested all settings and I have found that the one that does the job while preserve the battery life the most is the Wifi and Cell signal only option, in other phones it's called Power Saving Mode. I've been using this option all the time for the past couple of months and it really uses very low battery, barely noticeable, this way I keep my location on to be able to use the locate device and other location services. I only change to high accuracy (GPS, WIFi and Cell) for my daily 5k runs or if I need to use Google maps or any other Maps apps. There are people who use GPS only but I've noticed that it increases (obviously) the gpsd service in my battery stats and it drains battery a lot more than Power saving Mode.
Location History is not needed for the Location Services to work, this is just a Google Service to enable other features. Take a look at this information. Google’s Location History is Still Recording Your Every Move.
Until mid April, when we had 2 separate options, Location reporting and Location History, I had location history on but Reporting off as it was besides the Screen, the number 1 battery drainer on Android, and I frankly didn't want to be "reporting" Google all my moves, but now that they incorporated both into just one setting, I just prefer to turn it off. My fingerprint scanner is working fine, which is a good thing because Trusted Places isn't. TP doesn't seem to be tracking or updating my location so I still have to use the fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone while at stored trusted places (Home, Work). The Trusted Device works fine, but location not so much.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I use the Galaxy S5 Gallery to view photos taken with the S5 the location data is always way off - maybe 400 or 500 metres.
If I use some other image viewer such as QuickPic or Gallery KK for the same pictures the reported location is accurate. If I copy the pictures to my PC and view them in Picasa or Lightroom the reported location is also accurate.
So why is the Samsung supplied Gallery app so wrong? (I know I could just ignore it and use an alternative app, but its other features are useful to me).
Incidentally, the recent Gallery update if anything made matters worse.
I am using navigation but not sure how to save the location for home or work...

I just got a galaxy s5, wanted to customize the screens and icons a bit more, read about nova launcher and downloaded. Am very happy with the screens and icons, etc. but ever since I did that I can't use google maps gps. What I try to put in an address to ask for directions it says "turn by turn navigation is only available in these location modes: high accuracy (or) device only" Then you have the option of hitting ignore, which means you still don't get directions, or settings, which takes you to the location section of settings. Location is set to on, but I can't see any place where "high accuracy" is an option and don't remember this ever being an issue with my S3 - which is why I think this is related to the Nova Launcher?how to fix it. I'll uninstall the launcher if I have to but wondering if there is an alternative.

I've been tempted to turn off location history on my phone for various reasons (privacy, battery, etc.), but it says that it will affect Google Now. I'm not willing to lose Google Now, so I'm wondering: What effect on Google Now will I see if I turn off Location History?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have owned a galaxy s6 edge for three or four months now and for the last month or so, the location setting has been turning itself on. I have noticed that this only happens when I have some form of internet connection (4g or wifi).
I checked the location services menu and it says that no apps have recently requested my location so why this is turning on. I have also moved my location quick setting to the end of the scrollable quick settings so there is no possibility of turning it on accidentally.
I don't want it to know where I am (data protection and all that).
