May 2, 2015I'm using a Sprint S6 and when I turn off Location having it set to wifi and mobile then restart it's on High Accuracy(GPS,Wifi,Mobile). Definitely something to consider when you're toggling that switch because I've noticed some what significant battery lost and it's always scanning on that mode.

Apr 18, 2014I found a peculiar issue. I found that the weather widget would not update even if I set the refresh interval at an hour or did a manual update. I played with the 3 location settings (high accuracy, power savings, and GPS only) that are new with Kit Kat. I found that none of them worked unless I had my wifi enabled. It did not have to be connected, just enabled. As soon as I enabled wifi it would refresh with no issues.
I disable my wifi when away from my house to save battery, it looks like I won't be able to do this anymore if I want location services to work correctly. I also found that this was impacting my llama application (location specific phone settings).

Aug 7, 2012For the last few weeks my GPS has been basically useless. Sometimes if I let it sit and hunt for 30 minutes it finally picks something up. This means it's very hard to use Google Navigator or RunTracks. MapMyRun would sometimes get a lock after letting it hunt for half an hour. Letting my phone sit to do that just drains the battery though.My phone has the latest updates. I used an app to see how many satellites it "sees", and it finds about 7 or so but doesn't recieve any positioning info from them. I've tried turning location services on/off and rebooting the phone. Tried the same thing plus also removing the battery.

Dec 23, 2015Currently the phone has location services on in battery saver mode with location history off. After updating to 6.0.1 or some new version of the phone app I have been unable to search for nearby places in app. The toggles for it have been turned on and off multiple times, turned the phone on and off, played with turning location settings on in different modes with the location history on and off in each scenario. Haven't tried clearing the cache and I don't find it to be a big enough problem to warrant a factory reset.

May 9, 2012I don't have an unlimited data plan, so when I use my phone while traveling, every time I look on Google maps- or any other location-based app for that matter- it's using up my data plan and costing me money. I think it's stupid that Apple has tied the built-in gps inextricably to the data service- they could at least let the gps operate in a reduced capacity when data is unavailable. What is one supposed to do if one lives in or travels to a location with limited data network availability? At any rate, this is the world we live in, so my question is this: if I get an external gps receiver, and turn off my data service, will my phone be able to extract and use my location from the device?

Jan 3, 2016I am not sure,but I think that before rooting and unrooting my Samsung Galaxy S5 Duos and installing a new firmware,with the power saving mode turned on,I could check for a weather information update without turning the location service manually on.
I suppose that the weather information service turned on the location service only for checking for weather information update automatically and then turned it off automatically again. And when I have pressed the weather update refresh button, it updated the weather information very fast. I would also like to add that the weather information,has been updating with no difference if the phone has been connected to a wi-fi network or 3G.
Is there a way I can get back that way of updating the weather information? That was only with the power saving mode turned on!
Galaxy S6 :: Unable To Turn 3rd Party Services On
Sep 22, 2015Any time I try to activate a 3rd party service my phone display settings stopped working. I have tried Greenify, Pushbullet, and ShutApp. None of these are allowed. Is there a particular package that's required? I have package disabler enabled with 180+ packages disabled. I have no issues with any apps after customizing disabled packages.

Jul 14, 2010I was experiencing slowdowns on applicationss accessing the SD card for storage and caching. Among them are browsers like Dolphin, applications like Twidroyd, and news applications like Huffington Post. It helped with some of the applications by setting their storage options to internal memory, but the best solution so far, without rooting your phone and adding some MODACO mod, is to go to Settings, go to Managing Applications, go to Running Services, look for something that mentions DRM, then kill it.
Killing this does not harm the system, as I tested this already, and it speeds up access to applications that cache on the internal SD card. Of course, another way is to disable all SD access, and everything flies. But I find killing DRM services works well. DRM services is not part of the standard Android set, since I don't find this on the HTC phones, so killing it won't harm anything. Killing off Samsung's own slow ware such as Daily Briefings and the social Feeds widget may also help speed up the UI further, but on the other hand, these widgets can also be useful for some people.

The status bar reads complete, however, nothing happens. I was told to check my Location Services to verify I had it turned on for the FB app, however, upon doing this I realized the application no longer even shows up as an option within the Location Services. I'm guessing this to be part of the issue, however, I have zero clue as to why it no longer shows up period vs just having it accidentally switched off.
