I am running 5.0 on my GS5 with Google Maps 9.8.1, TTS enabled, US English, etc... (everything that I can think of) and when navigating, no street names are ever spoken. Only "Turn left", etc...
I'd like my street names back.
I have a Nokia 5800 Nav Edition. I just upgraded to the new 3.03 Ovi maps. Does Ovi Maps speak out street names in the route navigation?? For me it just says "Turn right in 1 mile" .. no street name! It would be very helpful if this feature was included. Am I missing something on how to enable text to speech so that it speaks street names?

I have checked and language strings are set to English US for voice output.
Phone updated to Android 5 and now no spoken street names. Updates installed and uninstalled back to base version. Very frustrating as this is the base version that Sony provide.
View 8 Replies View RelatedIf instructions upon page 77 of N9 UG (Eng) not clear enough you do need to download appropriate voice file with street names as none installed by default.After you have chosen "Walking person" icon > Get directions > Navigate you need to tap upon grey tool bar at base of screen After selecting Voice Guidance > tap on select voice to reveal choices available.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've tried many navigation applications and Nokia Drive holds up rather well. But one area I noticed it seems off compared to many others is it seems to favor or use unknown names compared to other apps. It often calls out street names that are not marked as such.
For instance in Florida it seems to be calling I-95 SR 9. After a little research I found the SR 9 is a hidden designation that isn't marked by any road signs.
I have iPhone 5 with iOS 6.0. Out of sudden, Maps nolonger show street names, everything else works fine. I tried shutoff myphonealready. How to fix it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 5800 XM with Ovi Maps v 3.03. Is it possible to make the street names larger in size? The street names are only 1 milimeter in height in both 2D and 3D view, regardless of zoom level. I am aware there is the street name you are currently on in the center top section in a larger font size, which definitely helps, but it would be nice to have the larger fonts for surrounding streets.Also, is there a way to get rid of the white bar on the right side that houses the "search" and "menu" links? The 5800's screen is already small for GPS standards, and this white bar subtracts almost 1 cm of valuable screen real-estate. It would be nice to not have the white bar and have the "search" and "menu" links stay where they are, but perhaps have a white highlight around the letters or something like that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I get into the car, I sometimes plug the S5 into my car stereo's aux input via a 3.5mm audio cable. I can play anything just fine(streaming music or MP3/FLAC/WAV files stored on the phone).When I'm listening to the car stereo itself(CD, FM/AM, etc), I usually leave the phone plugged in. If I want to use Google Maps voice navigation, I'll have to physically disconnect the 3.5m audio cable if I want to hear the voice navigation on my phone. (again, this is when I'm only playing a CD on the car stereo)Is there a way to get around this so that I don't have to plug/unplug in the aux input cable all the time?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'll use my GS6 as my GPS and while driving, the screen will rotate 180 degrees. I'm now looking at an upside down map. It's done this with Waze and Google Maps. After a while it'll do the same thing and flip back to rightside up. If I don't, I'll have to rotate the screen back to potrait mode before rotating it back to landscape. I've done some research on Google and haven't found any results, only that the GS6 Edge had a rotation problem, but it doesn't seem related. None of my other apps mimic this behavior.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Nokia 5230. I used the Nokia Ovi Suite to upload one additional voice to the phone: Finnish with street names (Suomi katujen nimill). The upload was successful ( I even checked the memory card). However this voice option is not available on the phone in the Ovi Maps Settings (not for walking or driving).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a used Nokia E52 with a hope to have maps in the pocket and GPS.After certain struggle I managed to install all maps and it seems to be working.However When I search for a street address, unless there is something on this street (in locations database.. like parking, hotel or restaurant), it doesn't fidn it at all.I looked at many forums, but I can't figure out if it's a bug or a feature.Can one just type a street address in OVI maps (let's say "Rue Saint-Bon, Paris"..or "6 Rue Saint-Bon, Paris") and expect it to find it. It seems the most basic and most important feature of GPS navigation - to find street address. But it just doesnt' work!

View 4 Replies View Relatedi just dowloaded ovi maps 3.0 on my 5230 and it works fine. but i'm in iceland and i thought that there was supposed to be street maps of iceland in there somewhere.in the ad from ovi on Internet f.x. they show a map of countries that have been mapped and iceland is on that map but i just can't find it. all i can see is names of towns and cities and the main roud around iceland but no more than that. but when i navigate to london f.x. i get all the streets and street names.(and yes i know iceland isn't that big so i should not get lost but gps can come in handy here like anywhere else)

Overall very happy. Does Drive have turn by turn navigation wih specific names and exits? Right now it only says stuff like "turn now".
I have a N85 Navi which I bought less than a year ago. I updated this week the maps and the application (latest version)and added one voice for the navigation. After this update when I open the Maps and select Settings and Navigation (to change i.e. voice), Maps closes automatically without any error messages. I can open all the other settings sub-menus. Any ideas why this is happening? Do I have the to re-install the application, maps and voices?

Sometimes I am driving and there could be an accident and I need to try and grab my phone and put it in the phone holder in my car then navigate to google maps to find an alternate route by hand. I am wondering if I could make this easier by doing some of this with my voice. I know it is possible to search a specific place after pressing the voice icon manually after launching google maps, but is there a way so I can just put the phone in the car holder then use my voice to launch maps and say what my destination is?
