BB Curve 8500 :: Connect To Web Without Using Broadband Router?
Mar 2, 2010Just received my Curve today. Not sure if this is to do with my service provider or the handset itself! I am also a bit of a techno-phobe!I cannot connect to the internet! On my old LG Ku990 i could easily connect to the web with no need to set anything up and got charged per data received (this actually was included in my free calls). I had such high hopes for the curve to be better than that! I do not know how to set up my curve to be able to acces the web. on the set up menu all the options i have are for a wi-fi connection to my home braodband wireless router. Why can't i just connect via the phone as i could on my old LG? When i try and connect to my home broadband it asks for a PSK code and i do not know what this is or where to find it!Is it possible to connect to the web without using my home broadband router?Any help will be much appreciated as i am dying to use this new phone to the best of its ability!

Jun 20, 2011My children are unable to connect their Blackberrys to the home network with this new router(Thomson Techni-color 582?). With the previous router (585?) all they had to do was scan for available networks and then when ours appeared they put in the password.But with this one when you scan and find the network and try to connect you get the message "this wireless router supports wi-fi protected setup. To connect using a PIN (which your Blackberry will generate), click Next". Then when you click Next you get an 8 number code. it doesn't give you the opportunity to put in the network password.Please tell me how to connect the Blackberrys to our network.

Jul 30, 2012I have Blackberry curve 9380. Recently I purchased Digisol Broadband router model DG-BG4011N which I am using with BSNL Broadband connection. The trouble is I cant use this wifi connection on my Blackberry. My blackberry discovers this connection, asks for a passpharase and connects to wifi. It even displays on homesvreen as connected but stil I cannot use internet over wifi. Everytime when I access browser, App world etc, the connection being used is my mobile EDGE connection. When I try to use only wifi by disconnecting from Bsnl network, it will give me error. I contacted Digisol helpline, but they also could not help. I have tried changing security on my digisol interface from WPA only to WPA2 and to auto mode, but still cannot use internet over wifi on my Blackberry. Wifi works fine on my laptop. Also my blacberry works fine over wifi at a friends place.

Feb 3, 2010I have the BB 8520. It is an unlocked phone that I bought in India and and trying to use in Toronto with Fido. I have asked fido to block data service so I dont incurr any costs.I am trying to browse the internet using WIFI. I do have the browser on HOTSPOT MODE. But even if I am in an open network (ie Library) , I get the message "Cannot obtain IP address" when trying to connect.

Blackberry pin-pin : No
Could this be an issue? How do i register to be connected to blackberry?

May 27, 2010One of the reasons I bought a Blackberry is because you can send and receive emails on it. I bought a new 8520 blackberry and I cant set up an email address! Ok, I went through the set-up wizard, and when it got to the email part, there is supposed to be 2 options:
I want to create or add an email address
and
I want to use the blackberry enterprise server
My blackberry only has one option..the enterprise server one. Now I don't work in any office environment, so this is of no use to me. I want to use the first option, that my phone doesn't have.

Jun 12, 2011My wife has a bb 9300 3g on os6 and everything has been fine.However somehow she has screwed up the wi-fi settings.The phone will not connect to our home router and displays the rror message " failed to obtain an IP address".I hve tried everything on the phone from
- Removing the wi-fi setting and reentering them.
- Entering the details manually
- Removing the battery and rebooting the phone
- Reinstally the os over the computer
Nothing seems to work. I know the router is fine as I have the same phone and it connects ok along with several other devices.Has anyone any suggestions before I reset the phone to factory setting?

Jun 28, 2010Im just picked up my curve 8530 with koodo. I have a data plan with unlimited windows live, hotmail, etc... i go to add my email address and it adds it in the list of addresses in the email setup. So when i go to my messages window and i try to compose an email it says "No message service configured. You will be redirected to the Setup Wizard to setup your email" . I also registered with the koodo bis site so i can view my email addresses on my comp as well.

I can see the wifi networks when i use the setup wizard, but after it trie to connect, i get this " - " symbol against my wifi ( in the wifi options). The wifi SSID is recognized and i face this same issue across all the wifi networks i tried to connect. I am currently using the T-mobile prepaid card. I cannot browse the internet and i feel really bad that blackberry has this wonderful device which cannot perform a basic function like wifi connectivity easily.
Kindly help me, as i really need the wifi connectivity. As a student the data plan seems too expensive.
BB Curve 8500 :: Cannot Connect To Media Sync
May 21, 2010I have tried and tried, but can't get Media Sync to find my BB Curve.
Desktop Manager can find my BB - and it says it's working & connected, but when I launch Media Sync, after 3 mins of searching, it says "Please connect a BB device".
I have tried without launching DTM - i.e. launching Media Sync on its own.
I have tried all variations of restarts, of both BB and laptop AND removing the battery at all sorts of stages in the process. No joy.
I don't see a drive on Windows Explorer with my BB however.
I'm running Windows Vista, SP1.
1. Device model number: 8520
2. carrier or mobile provider: Virgin Mobile
3. OS release v 5.0.0.592
Extra history:
1) I downloaded Desktop Manager from the CD and then updated it automatically.
2) I then followed some detailed instructions from this forum elsewhere and totally removed every trace of it (including regedit entries).
3) I downloaded a clean copy of the latest DTM from BB website
4) I then updated the Curve OS software - now on version 5.01 (and yes, like everyone I prefered the old style of key locking!)
5) I also replaced the USB cable since that seemed to provoke a constant cycle of reboots on my BB - this was an earlier problem that a different cable fixed, but that's another story!

May 11, 2010I have the Curve 8520.I am a unique case of this, because with T-Mobile there is a way you can have a Blackberry without the data plan, so when I am trying to connect to the internet, it is ONLY through wi-fi.
On the home screen, the Wi-Fi Logo is lit up white, and it says the name of my network. However, when I try to access any webpage, the message comes up:"Unable to connect to the internet, please try again later. If the problem persists, please contact your service provider."It HAS worked before.

Aug 22, 2010I have a problem with my dear BB 8530. Basically, I cannot connect to internet through BIS when I am in connection mode 1XEV, that means that I am inside the EVDO net. Once I make a web page address request or update twitter, the device remains 10 secs trying to get response from the net and later it switches to the 1X connection mode, and is in this mode that data access works!!!!!
My mobile company gives me a procedure to apply "provisioning" to my mobile but, despite introducing new provisioning password and check all, I have been suffering this flaw on my cell phone!!!Well, I need help! is there any diagnosis procedure to know if the problem is the cell phone or a net configuration problem?

Sep 3, 2010Really loving this phone (8520) and a massive leap from my last phone.
Having trouble with connecting to my or my works wifi. It registers both routers and displays the name across at the top of the phone and in wifi settings I have a black square with a white dash line and a green wifi symbol.
I have a Asda pay as you go sim which is fine for the calls text etc but I hearing not so good for the Internet.
I have managed to get the browser going with the Hotspot setting but I'm guessing this isn't using my home wifi as it as slow as a snail and keeps cutting out.
Without Hotspot enabled it tries to use VodaphoneLive and I get the message "unable to connect to the Internet, please try again later. If the problem persists please contact your service provider"

Apr 28, 2012I got an unlocked blackberry curve 8520 in February. I did get it from Poland but everything is the same. I don't have a data package, but about a two weeks ago I found out I could connect to wifi anyways. I did this and it worked at my house all day that day. Then I left and when I came back it wouldn't connect to the router it was previously connected to or any others. After searching forums I've tried changing all kinds of settings but they all seem to be where they were supposed to be. I did notice though when I'm in 'options> wifi> menu> wifi tools> wifi diagnostics the status bar says "IP address no loner valid" for all the routers I try to connect to.

I can browse the internet over the 3G network and at a Hot Spot location using the Wi-Fi. What I can't do is access the internet through my wireless router at home. The Netgear router (WPN824 v3) works fine through the cable modem for laptops and my daughter's Motorola Click smartphone. When I turn off the 3G network, I get a "can't find the server message".
