1) I can't seem to figure out how to set text message tones for each individual contact for my 8520? Is this possible? (I have the T-mobile 8520 Curve if that makes a difference?)
2) How do I update my operating system for my 8520, from the T-mobile network?

Jan 26, 2010I upgrade to 5.0.0.438 and haven't ran into too many problems but this one. i was setting up individual sms tones for some contacts and some of them work and others don't. The one that doesn't work is a downloaded tone from crackberry but I also can't get a built in ringtone to work either. not sure what to do here. Is any one else having this problem? Also how do i fix it?

May 30, 2012just getting to grips with my new android phone ( dragging myself into the 21st century as my daughter informs me ) so using the functions is still new to me. However one thing I have found is that, unlike my old Samsung Monte, I can't assign individual test alert tones on a contact basis so that all have the same alert. Looking through forums it seems the way to go is to use a separate app that will do that and seems that there are three mainly recommended - chomp sms, handcent sms and Go SMS Pro. So I have two questions, firstly does anyone have recommendations as to which may be the better to go for of the three or have a better sugegstions. Secondly anything I need to do when installing an app on an android phone, probably a dumb quetion to some but I'd like to have use of my phone for more than a week before managing to blow it up

Now the message counter shows me the total unread messages for my four email accounts and texts, but I can no longer see the counter for the individual email accounts like I could with OS5. how to change so that I can see the grand total unread messages and the individual counts for each account?

Jan 5, 2015A couple of weeks ago I changed the default ringtone for my incoming text messages. It would work for some contacts but not others so I changed it on the individual contacts by going into their information. I have now tried changing it again but it does not work on one of my contacts. Text messages from other individuals work fine but the one I'm having problems with will only vibrate not ring. I've changed it in the default, I've changed it in their individual account info -- but nothing.

Dec 10, 2014When I delete an individual text message, the text goes but then the time and date that message was received remains on the summary screen - not in the conversation thread but on the screen where all your messages are. Example - I sent a text at 8:30 this morning. The last text sent before that was at 9:30 the previous night. So I deleted the text from this morning and the text went but on the front screen it has last nights text against this mornings time and date.

Dec 16, 2015So I just installed the newest update as of 12/14/15 not sure when it was released. But anyway. Since then. My s5 has been giving me non stop message tones when nothing is there at all. No new notifications. No new anything. I turned the sound off completey and it will still vibrate.

I know there has to be a way to have each contact have a different tone because it was added as far back as s3 which I also currently still own as well and would like to have my contacts all have different tones so I know who's texting me.

Oct 7, 2015Since updating to the latest version of the software about a week ago, my contacts have cloned themselves. I now have well over 100 entries for each individual contact. Contacts and messaging now takes up to a minute to open and the contacts are impossible to use. I have 2 gmail accounts, 1 activesync, 1 outlook.com account along with facebook contacts set to sync. It was all working well until the a few days ago.

Sep 16, 2014After the latest update to Android 5.1 the individual ringtones for contacts doesn't work anymore if the mp3 file is in the sdcard.
If the mp3 file is in the internal memory it works correctly. This behaviour was not present with previous versions of android.

Mar 22, 2011I'm writing about my X8 that I've upgraded from Android 1.6 (Donut) to Android 2.1 (Eclair) between yesterday and today. I regret that with the upgrade a lot of "alarm tones" are gone, including one in particular which is so cool, I can't remember the name but that begins with "multi" - it's a combination of more tones (drin, chicken, bell, etc.).
I did a regular backup rand restore but I don't think those wake-up tones are normally backed up or considered in the backup process. I'm asking you what I can do to have back what I had but seems to have been lost with the upgrade. Now the mobile phone's alarm ringtones available are very few and I think a upgrades should add, not remove.

Dec 18, 2015Just jumped back to Android after a decade of Windows phone (be patient) and I'm trying to change the ringtone for one of my contacts but when I find and edit their contact information the Ringtone ID is grey'd out and I can't edit it. What am I missing?
So I dug all through the settings and found Sound & Notification. When it went in there I found an option for Ringtone ID. What it does other than allows me to set ringtones for Contacts, Favorites or Everyone. When I disabled it I was then able to provide custom ringtones for my contacts.

I do not get any type of notification when he sends me a text message and even in the text message list, there is the mute symbol next to his name (bell with diagonal slash)How can I remove this? He is someone with whom I text regularly and I can't continue to be unaware when I receive messages from him.
