View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a Xperia Ray ST18a. During the setup wizard I was able to connect to my home wifi but when it tried to download the carrier internet settings (AT&T) it would return an error dialog "Could not download settings. Retry?"
I then had the phone check for updates via wifi and it found Gingerbread 2.3.4. I installed that. I still cannot get the carrier settings. I'm trying to do this now by Settings, Sony Ericsson, Internet Settings. Same error message.
My wife has an Xperia Neo ST15a. It was setup a month ago in the same location also with AT&T. Her phone had no problem getting the settings.
Yes Data service is 'ticked' and please don't say 'Call your carrier'. I prefer that AT&T not know what type phone I am using. And YES I do realize I could go on my wife's phone for the settings, but I feel the automated method should work.

This is my first Android/smartphone device.I've been shocked so many times at the unbelievable cost of internet usage (or related) costs on the device. I'm currently in Italy (for now) and the costs here are even worse than at home. Totally, totally shocking.What I'd like to do is identify and understand, then control all the settings related to this. I hope this helps out others in the future.
1 Settings, Wireless & Network, Mobile Network, DATA ROAMING, DATA TRAFFIC . So roaming for outside your usual network, traffic is WHAT? Allow internet in general?
2. Settings, Accounts & Sync, BACKGROUND DATA, this is what? Allow apps to use internet? E.g. for weather apps etc.?
3. Anything related to GPS (various settings in location services and wireless) should be hunted down and switched off.
I've used phones since I was about 12. I've been a tech geek for as long as I know, very early adopter of 3G blah blah but I'm surprised by the complexity of the internet options on these android devices and shocked by the million ways they steal your credit.

I only got EDGE using Tmobile while my other phone Xpeira Z1 can get LTE at the same location. I did set the APN manually [URL] .... since the auto download "Internet & MMS settings" didn't work. I tried to update the phone using "Update Center" but it said I have the most updated version already.
There is no sim card in my phone and no internet connection. How do i restore the phone back to the factory settings?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy 3 day old Z3 rebooted to factory settings while having it in my pocket. I was out for a five hours walk and have used it serveral times during the walk to take photos. They were stored on the SD card. Battery was on 73%. At the end of my trip I noticed it asked for my pin code to unlock the sim card. I used my newly set pincode for simcard and it worked fine. The telephone was set up with screenlock as well, but that has disapeared together with all my installed programs and my photos and videos on the SD card.

When I went to activate it I discovered it was on revol's network, I dont live in the city hence I can get coverage on revol. Still says verizon all over it when you turn it on and off. I am not very savvy with cell phones but I am with a computer. I took it to the verizon store and they tried to put new firmware on it but it didnt work. I have a tough time beleiving that it can go from verizons network to revols but not back, if anyone has a way that I can flash the phone back to verizon.

It was sold in the Vodafone phone section of an electronic store, the salesperson assured me it was not locked to Vodafone so I decided to buy it and take it back home with me to Samoa. Prior to departing for Samoa, I've used the phone with a Vodafone NZ sim card for about a week, everything worked fine, internet, GMail, apps market, apps etc.After arriving back in Samoa, I hooked it up to my computer to update the phone software which included an upgrade to Android 2.1. After that, I took it down to a Digicel (one of the two mobile phone service providers in Samoa) store to get my internet set up. After leaving the store I've realised only the browser's internet connection worked, but no internet connection for of the apps, apps market, GMail etc...
(1)No internet Did some research on the net about this problem, tried getting the wizard back up and signing into my google account, no luck. Formatted the phone, tried to set up my google account straight away in the wizard, no luck. Digicel doesnt know what's wrong either. There are no Android phones currently sold by Digicel in Samoa so I guess I can't really blame them. It's very frustrating. Fortunately, I've been able to hook up the phone to my home's wifi connection, internet works fine of course...the apps, the apps market, GMail etc.
(2) Phone shuts down with other sim cards Ever since having taken the phone down to the Digicel store (they took it to the back so I don't know what else they did with the phone) to get the internet set up, no other sim cards work with the phone. Well they work, but, only a few seconds or at most a minute after entering the sim pin, then the phone just goes blank and reboots itself. This happens with simcards from the other mobile phone service provider (tried both mine and my dad's) AND with the Vodafone sim card I used in NZ!?!?! Could Digicel have done something to the phone which makes it shut down when non-Digicel sim cards are inserted?
