Xperia X10 :: 1.6 To 2.1 Backward Compatibility And Stability?

Jan 6, 2011

I purchased the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10a from AT&T last month to monitor my surveillance system from the phone. The software (Meye) is for 1.6 and I can't find any more information about it. However, I want to upgrade to 2.1 for voice to text. So my questions are: 1) is 2.1 stable because I have read all kinds of horror stories about it being unstable and crashing, restarting, etc; 2) is 2.1 backwards compatible to 1.6 since I must have the surveillance software installed; and 3) what can I use to upgrade other than Sony Upgrade Service since I tried using it and it just reinstalled 1.6 again?

I've downloaded the newest version of ovi player, and it always crashes when importing my songs. When it reaches the 565th song, it says "ovi player is not working". Also when I open ovi player and drag the program, it crashes. Same thing when double clicking the top bar to maximize.I already deleted the database file and it keeps crashing.

Motorola Droid Bionic :: CDMA / 4G And WIFI Connection Stability

Mar 19, 2012

I have a Bionic. The device works very well with apps, but seems to have difficulty with some WIFI points and keeping connected to the 4G or 3G networks. I am in the New Haven, CT area near I95 and I have friends with an HTC Thunderbolt that can easily get the 4G consistently. This is my second Bionic, the first one stopped functioning even after factory reset. Most Single AP WIFI will connect, if not airplane mode toggle is a workaround and will allow it to see the AP and connect. Any enterprise network with multiple APs with same SSID will give me a connection problem about half the time. Once it starts the Connecting, Disconnected, Scanning loop, I must airplane toggle. This does not always correct the issue.

BB (RIM) :: Messenger 5.0 Backward Compatible With 4.5.0?

Feb 7, 2010

I had just upgraded my BB Messenger to version 5.0. Since I never bothered to back anything up, all of my contacts' PINs disappeared (that's OK). I started out by re-inviting my spouse's BB (who is stuck on BB Messenger 4.5.0 due to corporate IT policy), she saw the invite and accepted it, BUT on my BB Messenger, her PIN is still showing 'Pending'. And my PIN was not added to her BB Messenger even after she accepted the invitation.

Is this a known behavior because 5.0 isn't backward compatible with 4.5.0? Is there anything special we need to do because we have two different versions? Since I need to be able to do Messenger with my spouse, is there a way for me to downgrade from 5.0 to 4.5.0 (via OTA perhaps, since I can't remember where the original CD is).

BB Torch 9800 :: Charging Pod Is A Step BACKWARD

Aug 21, 2010

I can't believe that RIM designed such a stupid charging pod for the Torch! I had the pod for my 9700 and that was slick with those little metal contacts on the bottom. Very easy to just drop phone into pod. But with the new Torch, the pod is a physical connection into the micro USB port on the side of the phone!! What were they thinking??!! Isn't the idea of a pod supposed to be for the ultimate in charging ease and to prevent unnecessary wear on the USB connection?

Motorola Droid Razr :: App Groups: Also Going Backward In Functionality?

Jun 30, 2012

Noted previously that the "Favorites" widget now requires extra steps to manage which contacts are in or out of the widget and where they appear.

This retro less-intuitive-but-more-steps disease seems also to have struck Apps Groups. TPTB that they assign the designer for the folder replacement to manage the whole GUI. Or at least give her/him veto over going backwards.

Don't mean to be snotty, but when my 2012 phone has built-in apps from 1995, I become despondent and irritable.

IPhone :: Mac / Windows OSX Compatibility

Aug 17, 2010

I just got the new iPhone. I'm still using Tiger 10.4.11 on my MacBook Pro.I plugged my new phone in to the computer and it said that the phone isn't compatible with my version of OSX. I didn't think this would be a problem since my iPhone 3G works just fine with it.
I know I can buy a new version of OSX, but after spending £450 on the phone, I'm not really in a position to afford the £132 it's going to cost me to upgrade (Apple website says I need to go for the Mac Box Set, and not just Snow Leopard) at the moment.

This isn't my main question, but if I was to ask someone who already has the Mac Box Set for a copy of the disk, would it install on my Mac, or do I have to buy it myself? Sorry if that's a silly question. If I was to set up my new phone on the PC I have here, I wouldn't be able to then plug it back into my Mac, would I? All my music and contact info etc is stored on my Mac so it'll be a major hassle to have to start all over again on the PC.And also, say if I did start using this on the PC, when I do eventually get Snow Leopard, do I have to start all over again if I want to go back to using the phone with my Mac?

Nokia :: Firefox 3.6.3 And Ovi Maps Plug In Compatibility

May 14, 2010

My problem is that suddenly (since yesterday) when I open the Ovi Maps site (http://maps.ovi.com/) I don't see the map surface anymore, I just see a white surface!!! Everything else is in place. I can zoom in and out of this white surface I can even change to 3D and the blue sky on top appears but no map. Needless to say the same goes for satelite or any other option. No map appears. If I reload the page the map appears for a second and disappears immediately. When I deactivate the ovi maps plug-in (4.0.12.12), the map reappears and stays. I even tried to unistall it and reinstall it but the same thing happens, NO map visible. When I reinstalled it, it said that the plug-in is not compatible with firefox 3.6.3. The strange thing is that I didn't updated my firefox since yesterday, it just started to happen suddenly. I couldn't find anything like that elsewhere on the web so this place is my last hope. Has anyone had a similar experience or even better a possible solution? By the way I have windows 7 but I can't imagine a reason for this being relevant since it work just fine until yesterday.

Nokia :: E71 Comes With Music Activation / Compatibility List

Jul 12, 2010

I have a unused/unregistered comes with music pin and a nokia e71.I tried to enter the pin on ovi player with little success. After a conversation with nokia support, I was finally told the E71 isn’t a comes with music phone. The pin was originally with a nokia 5800 comes with music t mob device which I have sold and posted already to the new owner. It’s been literally a week. I wanted the e71 instead of the 5800 so i got the 5800 on contract, then sold it and bought a e71.My question is.
1) If I was to get a Nokia E72 - would I be able to activate it to use with the service with this pin?
2) Is there any difference from a 5800 comes with music phone and a normal 5800?

IPhone :: Jailbreaking / Compatibility In Foreign Countries

Jul 3, 2010

I recently updated my iPhone 3g and am irritated with how slow it's running as I've heard a lot of people are. I've read about downgrading to the old OS but I'm beginning to consider jailbreaking it. I only have a few questions and i was hoping someone would know:

1) I'm planning on spending 6 months in SE Asia toward the end of this year. I'd like my phone to work there if possible. I'll completely admit that I've not researched this topic enough but my general question is, can I jailbreak my phone and then enable it for use in SE Asia, if so how?
2) Would jailbreaking the phone make it more difficult in some way to enable it for use there?

Unintelligible questions I know and I apologize but I have no idea with where to start for all of it.

BB Device Software :: Lost 3rd Party App Compatibility

Apr 6, 2010

I have a BB Curve 8530 (Verizon Wireless). On March 22nd a device software upgrade was applied 5.0.0.508. That upgrade caused some of my 3rd party apps to have issues with some functionality in particular anything to do with "virtual serial ports". A prime example is the IntelliGolf app that had been working on perfectly prior to the upgrade. Once the upgrade was applied the application on the device was no longer able to sync any information with their Desktop application as it does not recognize that there is a USB connection. I raised the issue with the other software vendor and was told that there would need to be a RIM patch to address the backward compatibility issue. The other option would be for me to revert to a previous RIM device software version. I don't know where to find an acceptable "previous version" nor do I think it's advisable for me to address this issue without direction from RIM My question is this, will there be a patch to address this issue? If so, when? If not, what should I do get my applications working again?

Sony Ericsson :: BlueSoleil - PC Suite Compatibility

Nov 20, 2010

I just spent most of the day getting the PC Suite (6.011.00) to work with IVT BlueSoleil. So here's how I got it to work. I wanted to use Bluetooth but my laptop doesn't have BT so I got the BlueSoleil USB dongle. Basically, Windows failed to install the BlueSoleil device properly yesterday so I ran the BlueSoleil setup.exe. Big Mistake. PC Suite couldn't see Bluetooth at all.

But the BlueSoleil app could do file transfer etc. So the bluetooth pairing/connection etc. was working for BlueSoleil's app but the Sony Ericsson PC Suite couldn't access it at all. Sony Ericsson support were totally useless - they refused to provide any troubleshooting at all for the problem because they don't make the BT dongle. And they wouldn't even recommend a BT dongle that they know to work. Anyway, after much cursing and rebooting, here's what worked:Don't run BlueSoleil's setup.exe!

I uninstalled the IVT BlueSoleil software and uninstalled the BT Radios from the Device Manager. I then rebooted and plugged the dongle in. Windows attempted an install and most of it succeeded but a couple of bits (BT peripheral or something failed). Then the Windows Control Panel / Bluetooth Devices could see my C510. Then running PC Suite allowed it to see BT and go right through to connect to the phone, etc. Hope that might save someone a few hours.
